Ever given choice of room at check-in?

Were you ever given a choice of room(s) at check-in? For example, once we were told that there was no room available meeting both our requests, but 2 rooms were available, each meeting one of them. Another time, at OKW, we were told that the room they had wasn't ready yet, but another room was. We were given that room location and drove over there. Then the CM said it was our choice whether to take it or wait for the one assigned. Unfortunately, this type of thing only happened on 2 out of about 15 trips to WDW. I loved being given a choice-wish it happened more often. It would seem to me this would decrease a lot of complaining-after all, you chose that room! So how often has this happened to other people and where did it happen?

I don't recall that it has happened much at BWV, but it usually happens at OKW. The CM has just whipped out a map and said "OK, we have rooms here, here and here - which would you prefer?"

It's happened to us once or twice, but only when we were only getting one room. Most trips, we need at least 2.

We usually have that happen at OKW. We have had a choice of Inn rooms at VB but never the 1BDRs or larger.

Yes! Once only, that I can actually remember It was our last trip in July at VWL. We wanted a view of the pool and or the woods and non-smoking. She offered us pretty much any floor and we choose the 5th since we thought being up higher we would have a better view. I wish I could remember our CM's name...but any how, we got the PERFECT room! 5519

We had a view of the pool, the lodge, the wilderness, bay lake, it was perfect. The best part was that since it was corner room it was larger than most 1 bdrms. Did I mention that we checked in early, 2:00 and the room was ready!

Frequently we were given a choice at OKW - that was before I started requesting first floor or elevator building for medical reasons. Now I think they preassign us a room. However, on our last trip - Memorial Day weekend 2003 - our preassigned room was not yet ready. The CM did offer a room that was ready for occupancy. I asked where the preassigned room would be. Once she gave us an indication of area, we decided to wait - it was sssoooo worth the wait !

This happened to me at the BCV in July. When I checked in the CM told me that no rooms were ready, but listed the 4 studios that were available for check-in that day. She told me which views they had, and I choose the Epcot view!!! It was nice, but I do feel bad for those who make ressies at 11 months only to get shut out of the good views. I hadn't made any requests since I had only made my ressie 4 months prior figuring I had no chance of getting anything but my guarantee non-smoking for medical reasons.

It happened to us on Sunday of Presidents' week 2001 at the VWL. That was the first and last time.

It happened to us at BWV in June. We were offered an "upgrade" to a preferred view (from SV) but told it was handicap accessible. The room was ready at that time (about 11:30 am). Alternately, we could wait for what appeared to be a pre-assigned room. We chose to wait. The room we eventually got was on the opposite side of the Crest o' the Wave part of the building (away from the BW), overlooking a small courtyard and office building. I'm still not sure this is normally a SV room. It had what I would call a garden view (no water to be seen, although we could see the Swan). It worked fine for us.

We were offered a choice of rooms twice at OKW this summer. I love the Turtle Pond area and got to stay there both times by choice!

If our room is not ready I usually don't wait for them to offer one that is available. I just ask. We have only had to wait twice for a room in the 15 or so times that we have been. One time we opted to wait because we needed two rooms that were close together and the other time BWV had no 2-bedrooms clean at the time we checked-in. At OKW, BWV, and BCV the CM has always pulled out a map and shown us where the available rooms are located. We are usually not too picky about the location of the room so this works great for us.
