Ever get sick of the haters and Disney-phobes?

Hard to believe but true, I live in an area populated by Disney haters!
They won't go to Disney World, refuse to take their children there and will give you a lecture about how insidious the Disney corporation is and how it is corrupting the minds of their children. Am I living on another planet or what?!

I mean, I understand Disney isn't the ideal vacation for everyone, different strokes for different folks, but really, these people actually go out of their way to say negative things about Disney and will even grimace when I mention I am going to WDW on vacation! They try to make me feel bad or less of a person for liking Disney and taking Disney vacations.

Do any of you have these folks where you live?
I'm just so sick of the negativity of these haters. I try to keep the magic in my heart and remember that without these mean people it just means shorter lines for me at the parks. It's just so surprising.

Seriously, I get the same sermon in my workplace. I've decided that while they are entitled to their opinions, perhaps they might just take themselves a bit too seriously. All the more room at WDW for me to let out the child within!

I don't even bother talking with others about our trips...they know where I "live" if they want to know more...or to save money. Otherwise I feel no obligation to help them.

I end up feeling bad, like it's a bad thing to LOVE Disney. But then I remember, at least I can still have fun. The "In-laws" are tired of hearing about Disney. Too bad for them

Yes, I remember having some friends who questioned my love for all things Disney when Disney was rolling out animated movies that conflicted with their feminist views. I try not to overanalyze the meaning of "Beauty and the Beast" or "Little Mermaid." However, I will say "Mulan" is my favorite--maybe 'cause she's a strong female protagonist. Oh, I think I'm rambling...

I think most of the Disney "haters" have never been to the World so they really shouldn't be saying anything. I used to think that WDW was ridiculous until my first trip there in 2001. Now I can't get enough of it. I wish I could be there all the time. So anyone who has never been to WDW and says they hate it, needs to wake up and smell the coffee cause it is like no other place in the world. My brother is the same way. He tells me that it's stupid and why do you want to go there. Well finally I convinced him to go in October. I bet you he never wants to leave after that. Disney "haters" are just jealous. I say don't knock it till you try it.

When I was in the planning stages of my Disney trip a couple of weeks ago, people would ask me about my plans and "how'd you do this or that" and another coworker muttered that she was sick of hearing about Disney. When I got back I told most of my wonderful experience to other coworkers and not her just so as not to "bother" her. This Monday she asked me if I could give her links to the websites I used because her brother and sister-in-law would be taking her soon to be 3 yr old nephew. I thought to myself ...hmm she's coming along... but no such luck. She then added she couldn't understand WHY they would take a 3 yr old, that they should take him when he's older so could remember. I said "there was a 2 yr old on the MK bus one day who was soooo excited and told us several times on the trip there that he was "gonna go see Mickey Mouse!" Cutest thing! She STILL didn't get the magic. I guess you can lead the donkeys to Disney but you can't force them to drink from the 7 seas lagoon.

Yep, when I was planning a trip a couple of years ago I had one person tell me we were wasting our money and another said "Disney is all shops...not very many rides." We didn't get to go because we ended up selling our house and buying a new one and we just couldn't fit it into the budget at the time. Now we are definitely going in May and we've had nothing but postive feedback.

Most of the people that I have encountered who don't like WDW or understand the thrill of going there have either never been there or went but did no research to help them with p.s., crowds, which rides to hit first....and of course Fast Pass! If I had a dollar for every time I have just said the words and heard, "I really don't want to have to pay extra for that." Some parks like Six Flags charge extra and they assume WDW does also. I'm not a real big Six Flags giant old rolller coaster, arcade games type of gal (especially since my first trip to Disney) myself. What I love about WDW is the looks on my kids faces and my dh's face when we see and do things, the feeling that we are 9 years old again....just precious memories and feeling we are a bit out of the "real world". Not something you can explain to some people.

Oh I definitely feel for all of you! I like how the one poster put it though, if their not there then that means SHORTER LINES for all of us! Better room views too hrmmm...that gets me thinking....

LETS TELL EVERYONE HOW HORRIBLE DISNEY IS! Then when we go and they don't, even SHORTER lines! HURAH!

Seriously though we've encountered the Disney "haters" as well, in the embodiment of my in-laws! My MIL went to the point where she had "her" travel agent calling us and trying to talk us into another location! Heck, she even drove ACROSS THE STATE for a SUPRISE visit (oh no MIL your visit is fine...no it's okay...yes I'm well aware that I'm feeling ill...well I did just get out of the hospital last night you know...of cooourse your not an inconvenince...Ill just tell my doctor that 10 hours of sleep a day won't cut it while you are here... ) and brought pamphlets with her for other locations for our honeymoon. Mexico, Tahiti, you name it! After we flat out told her (or rather my husband did since I was falling over from sleepiness considering she came at 7 am and woke us up on his day off!) that we did not want to go anywhere for our honeymoon but WDW and that we had already booked it she sort of um....Well Spassed is the only word for it. Called us immature for going to a "kids" location. DH told her it was immature to yell at someone still sick. (*Giant arrow points to me*) Ah yes, we've had LOVELY family reuninons ruined by my in-laws hatred for all things Disney. Forutnately my wonderful husband wasn't infected by the WDW hater virus!

IF you really want to make the Disney haters mad start the chant, and preferably the wave if enough people are present, to "Here we go Disney, Here we go! Mickey Mouse!"

There are really two topics here - one, liking the Disney parks or not, and two, liking/approving of the Disney corporation.

I guess it labels me a hypocrite, but I really enjoy the Disney parks and have loved them since I was a very small child, but I do NOT approve of many of the things the Disney corporation does.

What makes me a hypocrite is that I don't care, LOL - I know it all goes into the same pot at the end of the day, but hey, I have a great time at WDW. Do I feel Disney as a corporation does everything right? Hardly (though they do get a few plusses for being socially liberal in their employee benefits policy), but I don't let it marr my enjoyment of the parks.

What's funny is that the people who I like to affectionately call "vegan granola hippies" (many of my friends, LOL) don't like Disney because it's a big evil corporation, and extreme right wing conservatives don't like Disney for it's progressive views. If only they knew how much they had in common!

I detest the 'disney haters' I'm a travel agent and recently a client came in to the agency looking for a holiday - nothing specific just wanted ideas, I asked where the family went last year so I could get a 'taste' of the sort of thibg they'd like when she replied Florida I said 'Oh, Disney' she laughed and said no way would she take her kids there - she'd been in a villa and spent 2 days out of the fortnight in Seaworld 'cos it was more educational! I asked if they'd thought about going back and she said no cos her kids were too bored last time! When I took out all the maps etc of epcot and explained all the educational rides and attractions there she looked a bit sheepish! Eventually they went to tuscany in a villa, But isn't it mad that people don't think WDW is educational??? I'm not knocking seworld for a minute 'cos we love it there but I do wish people would get their facts straight before knocking other peoples choice of holiday!

Well, we are flying all the way from Australia (25hrs) and people think we are crazy for wanting to go all that way just to go to WDW!!! I was talking to some of the nurses in theatre last week and they were saying "it's not my type of holiday" etc and "it's a lot of money" but I think it is worth it!!! I am 24 and have no kids and no commitments so why shouldn't I enjoy myself and do something that I have always wanted to......could it be possible that they are just jealous I can't understand people who don't want to go...I think if they went they would change their minds verrrrry quickly!!!!

I use to get picked on by alot of my family and friends about my love for Disney and then one day I had enough and got very natsy and rude to about 6 people. You should have seen their faces...LOL it was worth it believe me. Now that I had their attention, I explained the meaning of respect. It worked with everyone except for 1 couple and when they told everyone about there vacation plans, I went after them like a wild animal looking for meat... it was great. After I made my point, the guy took me aside and said something to me about what I had done.. I reminded him of how he and his wife treated me several times in the past and that if he didn't like it, he had 2 options, stop getting nasty with me about my vacation plans.. or don't talk about his plans in from of me...

I hated to do that but it just gets to be a little to much sometimes so it was time to act. Now that I own DVC, you should see all of my friends that would just love to go to Disney...LOL

I am surrounded by haters lol! I am getting married this Sunday and spending two weeks in WDW for my honeymoon! I can't tell you how many people have made snide little remarks about that! And they can't understand how two 30-somethings would want to go somewhere they have been before, that's not romantic, and full of kids for their honeymoon! I tell them there is no other place I rather be! And we don't mind the kids, haven't seen everything there, and think Disney is quite romantic! Hello- fairy tales!!!

we are surrounded by people who don't go on vacation...ever! so any of our trips we get looks & rolled eyes! we own a business and don't just go to disney to "relax" (imagine this!) but we go for ideas, and creativity. we own a sign shop and we are amazed at the design of even the smallest things. the attention to detail is amazing. we have tried to incorporate this into our shop, and it has worked! also we go for the service. we try to learn little tips from this as well and it has worked in our store. we HAVE learned though to just tell people we are going to Florida & not disney b/c we get the people who just try to bring us down with things like "it's so expensive" and "why again?".... i think they are just jealous!

Much like politics and religion, (ok, and refillable mugs and pool hopping) my love of disney is not something i discuss in mixed company.

i spew about it here and with a few other junkies i have come across in my daily life, but otherwise i try and keep my mouth shut. i get too upset when i my gushings and advise get bounced back to me with comments like "get a life" or "what a money pit" or "you think way too much about that stuff"

Thank God my DH and DS have the same affliction as i do or i would be one sad and lonely disney lover.
