Ever get a Pre-Wedding Invitation???

We sent them out for our wedding at Disney World. Actually, it's part of Disney's standard wedding service to send Save the Dates out around 8 months before the wedding. This is due to the fact that the guests will need time to make travel plans if they choose to attend the wedding. We sent our invitations much closer to the wedding date, so people would've had to scramble to make arrangements if they didn't get advance notice.

Actually, I'd never even really heard about them until Disney, and then I thought it was just a Disney FTW thing b/c of the destination. Now it seems like a lot of people do it. We just got one a few weeks ago for my cousin's wedding this summer...

I wish they had been fashionable 14 + years ago when DH and I were married. My mother insisted we stand on etiquette and held our invititations hostage until 6 weeks before the wedding. Not one of DH's relatives from MN or OH was able to attend.

We sent out save-the date cards when we got married, only because we were having a destination wedding (Las Vegas) and wanted to give a heads-up to everyone so they could make travel arrangements. We only sent them out about 4 months in advance though.

I don't understand why people send them out like a year in advance...by the time the invitation arrives, we've already forgotten about the wedding!

They are really common for people who may need to travel so they can get the best deal and also when the wedding is around a holiday/long weekend. It's a curtiousy. And you don't have to treat it like tha actual invitation.

It's something that used to be done just by word of mouth, but as the world evolves...
