Yuck.I went for a haircut yesterday and it is awful. The girl I used to go to doesn't work anymore so I went to another place. I asked for long layers and I wear bangs. She only trimmed the length, thank goodness but the layers are not nice, like they usually are. Usually I can flip the ends up.The she cut straight full bangs, a little too short too. OMG I think I look like Mo.
I guess it's kind of my fault for not being more specific. The good thing is, the bangs will grow, usually quickly.

I have been in your position many a time, and have learned the hard way, now if I have to find a new stylist I start asking people (even strangers) who does their hair, and for how long, it is difficult to find someone these days who stays put, and then if I do find someone I like I give them My phone number in case they change salons! I also find that I like men to cut my hair more so than women, I now have a "straight" guy although that really doesn't matter to me, as I get older I need to be looking as good as I can be!! :goodvibes

Oh no! Not Mo! Yes! I have had one too many bad hair cuts. I posted a while back looking for other Dis'ers in my area that could help me find a new place to go. I guess either there aren't many St. Louis Dis'ers, or they are walking around with bad hair too ;) Do you think you could find a good stylist who could go in and fix it a bit?

OMG I talk to strangers about their hair too! Also, does it really have to cost $150+ for a decent cut and some color? I don't mind paying what someone is worth, but sometimes even the expensive stylists are nothing to write home about :sad2: I have had better luck with male stylists too :)

can we change the title of this thread to, "have you ever had a good haircut?"
i have straight, one length, very long, thick hair (straight because i've had it japanese straightened) all i want is a perfectly straight cut, no layers, nothing fancy. 2 haircuts ago the lady left about 3 small sections of ahir longer then the rest, and this last haircut another lady kinda made the front shorter, leaving me with a "V" in back.
any haircutting DISers in palm beach county???

I thought of going somewhere else to fix it but my big problem is the bangs. Not much they can do to those.

Would texturizing them help not look so straight across?

I have never been traumatized by a haircut until this past January. I moved to a new town last August and asked several people where to get a good haircut...well, I had an appointment for a Sat morning and just before I left, they called and had to cancel...I am not sure why but I needed my haircut that day...I had it in my head I guess, so I called the other Salon that was recommended. They had a guy available and I was told he was one of the better stylists there...Well, I knew from the first few minutes he was horrible. He wouldn't let me cross my legs so that he could cut straigth...I have never heard of such a thing...

I was never paranoid about a haircut until this time...I was even in a hair show in NYC where my hair was Bozo the Clown orange for about a month!!! I have not gotten my hair cut since this happened in January...thank God for ponytails! :)

Well, I have been recommended to another place, and have an appointment this coming Wed...I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I got a bad cut on the day before vacation and I didn't have time to do anything about it. Had to wait till I came home. Needless to say, most of the pics of me were with a hat on. Now I know to get it cut at least a week or 2 in advance.

I go to the cheapy places for a cut. My hair is very curly, wavy & frizzy but I always blow it out straight. So to be even cheaper, I usually tell them to just cut it & I dry it at home since the style is only going to last that day anyway. One time I came home & blow dried it and found it so uneven that even my husband said it looked bad & he never says things like that. So back I went & had to wait about 1-1/2 hours, but they did fix it for free.

Now I let them dry it.

In the mid 90's I was just out of college and broke. I signed up at the Convention Center for a hair show. They needed hair models. Professional stylist for companies like Paul Mitchell were showing hair dressers new tricks of the trade.

I had long curly hair and I needed a haircut. So I figured what the heck.

When they were finished I looked like a black Carol Brady. :sad2:

They had chopped all my hair off on top to make it really short but left these wispy strands around my neck. The thing is, my hair is curly not straight...so Carol's style was just not working on me.

It took forever to grow out and I learned my lesson, no more free haircuts for me.

if you always blow dry your hair straight you should really consider the japanese straightening. i have normally pretty curly and frizzy hair, getting it done was the best money i have ever spent! i just wash it and it dries perfectly straight, i love it!

My worst cut was when I was pregnant. I had been going to this stylist for about a year, showed her a picture of what I wanted and how short I wanted it (about 1 1/2 inches short than it was) and it ended up being really short. More like 3 1/2 inches than 1 1/2. I had my glasses off when she was cutting it and I can't even see myself in the mirror with them off, so I couldn't see how short she was cutting it. I was pretty depressed. It would have been one thing if it was longer and someone could have fixed it, but there wasn't enough to work with. I really don't understand how it happened. Maybe it was uneven and she kept trying to fix it?

Bad haircut? You must be talking about my haircut. :sad2:

I had went to my regular stylist for a trim and didn't really like how it looked on me. When I called back the next week to ask her to "fix" it I was told she was out on leave and wouldn't be back for at least a month. :sad2:

I called the only other place in my town and was lucky enough to get someone who I really liked - easy to talk to, understood what I wanted, loved the cut ...

When it was time for a trim she was out sick so they put me with somebody else. I felt scalped!! Hated it, couldn't wait for my hair to grow.

Time for a trim and the girl from there that I liked was "no longer employed". I didn't want the other girl to cut it so they put with me somebody else. I hate this cut even more!! It looks so bad that I won't leave the house unless I really have to. I cry every time I try to do my hair. It's awful.

I called my old place back to see if my original stylist was back yet and thankfully she is!! :cheer2: :cool1: :thumbsup2  I told her I've been scalped but I look like I have a mullet too. I go in on Tuesday and she's going to see what she can do, help me pick out a style to work towards and put in some highlights too.

So to answer your question ... I've had 2 bad cuts in a row.

This sounds like I could have written this!! :lmao:
My stylist just moved but recommended me to another stylist---I of course asked is she good at razoring as this is all that is done with my hair (scissors don't touch my hair) :snooty: , the answer was, "yes she's great!"
Whenever my hair gets done I honestly have people who have stopped and taken pics with their phones because they want my hair--I even had a teenage boy say to me at Home Depot"your hair is really cool"--I feel so good when this happens.
I took her word on it and now have a haircut from h*ll!!!
I hate looking for a new stylist---its really stressful

It is too long of a story to go into right now - but I walked out once in the middle of a cut -- she just kept going and it was so uneven and I finally said "What are you doing - you are taking so much off"

She said - I have to - I got this a little shorter over here and now I am evening it up"

I watched her for a second and then said - Stop - just stop - I think we are done

She tried to talk to me for a minute and I said - No we are done and took off the cape and started walking out -- and she said

Since we didn't finish the cut I won't charge you full price

WHAT!?! OH NO - I AM NOT PAYING ANYTHING - you didn't listen - didn't tell me when you "got it a little shorter" than you meant to and I wanted - we are done!

I was so mad at the time when I walked out - but often wonder if I could have handled it better

My dad gave me a bad haircut when I was 8...cut my bangs so short that it took the whole summer for them to grow back to a decent length. And there was a vee shaped nick right in the front in the middle. My mom was sooo mad! LOL

Thanks for the tip. How long does it last? I know it's really expensive. What about when it starts growing in, won't the roots be frizzy & the rest straight? On that point I'm lucky, my hair takes forever to grow.

I have really curly hair and I made the mistake of letting a hair dresser talk me into 'layers'. I figured I could try it, it's only hair right? It would grow back. I told her nothing shorter than my shoulders, but I don't think this woman understood that when curly hair is wet it's much longer than when it's dry! I ended up with what a friend described as a curly mullet. It was so short in the front (literally and inch or two of curl 'bangs') and the very back was to the top of my collar, if that. It was months before I could even pull it back into a ponytail. This was three years ago and my hair has only recently grown out long enough that I don't look like Kerri Russel when she chopped her hair off when she was on that TV show a few years ago!
