Ever Found Anything Interesting Hidden In Your House?

I love all these stories, it reminds me of that show on HGTV, If Walls Could Talk. I love watching that show.

The only thing I found in this house was a hanger and a picture on a closet shelf. Didn't find anything in any previous homes/apartments.

:scared1: Wouldn't that be a time to call the police?

don't know what the police could have done about it, since all the other stuff were were digging up was over 200 years old, I'd assume the bones were from the same time frame. It was probably from an amputation, though our 10 year old minds fantasized about my more mysterious reason on why it was there.

Yes I have.
We moved into our home in July 2001. Well last year. I was scrubbing the brinks around my fire place and noticed one was not sealed down. So I moved adn foudn a little fun fact about my home. That since it was built in 1910's that a man name Walter has always lived in the house.Well my husband is Walt .
Talked to one to the kids that lived here on Facebook and he said his mom hid all kinds of notes around the house. That is the only one I found so far.

We used to own a home that was built some time in the late 18th century by the descendants of some Scots. We had to have the floor joists in one room replaced. Underneath the floor right in front of the fireplace we found a HUGE redware bowl, and right in front of the door a pair of shoes. Later, tucked into the boulders that made the foundation of the house and walls of the basement, I found a bit of fabric with glass inside. Up in the roof joists we found bottles.

After we moved I found out these were all things Scottish people in the 18th century put in their homes for good luck and to keep out bad spirits.

we lived in a house that was well over 100 yrs. old. It had quite a history-had been a bar/dance hall, eating establishment etc. over the years. When the old wooden siding was removed there was a huge two story high add for a circus on the side of the house. Kindof cool. We also found some old beer cans in the basement.
I always imagined there would be a ton of stuff in the walls, however after reading some of the other posts I'm super glad we didn't dig in the basement!! The dirt floors seemed odd to me, but wow I bet people could hide alot of crazy stuff in the dirt.

We replaced our door to the garage and found a baseball card of Mickey Mantle from the 50's. It is in fairly good condition and DH had it appraised at about $300! We still have it. We replaced it with an Albert Bell card which won't be worth much, I'm afraid.

We never have, but my aunt found old newspapers written in German and a letters also written in German in the walls of her attic. The couple that had lived in her house were German immigrants and the wife committed suicide in the stairwell...allegedly driven to it by the tornado siren from the fire department behind them. Always freaked me out when I babysat over there.:scared1:

when i was 12 my family moved into a subsidised townhouse complex that had hardwood flooring.
When i was 16 i started looking for a hiding place of my stuff, and i pulled up a loose floor board.

It wasn't as loose as it looked, (it cracked and made a racket) but there was a WW2 era pistol (no ammo) stored under it. (I gave it to mom, who called the police, who took it away).

When we took up the carpet in our house to put in hardwood floors, we found it to be lined with newspapers from the 1950's :confused3

That is about all we really found as the house was completely furnished with my dh's grandparents stuff. Although My dh's step dad was looking for their wedding rings and couldn't find them. Anyway I was cleaning the master bedroom and found an old powder puff jar and was going to throw it away. I got distracted and left in on the dresser. the next day I went to finish cleaning and saw it and though I need to throw this way and got distracted again and left on the bar in the kitchen. Later that night I saw it again and though I haven;t thrown this away yet? And as I held it over the trash I had this overwhelming urge to just open and make sure nothing was in it. And sure enough there was the wedding ring set!!! But WHO puts rings in an old powder puff jar??? :confused3

We are the 3rd owners of our house and were told that the first owners had 9 kids! Three years ago we were replacing all of the carpets. When the installers pulled up the carpet on the stairway, we found a ticket for a 1973 Boy Scout Jamboree. We aren't sure if it was put there intentionally or just ended up there somehow.

My parents remodeled their kitchen in the 80's, their house was built in the 40's and this was the first remodel. They found dozens of beer cans left by the workers and tons of "odd" brands. My Dad sold the collection and was able to upgrade the appliances.

My husband and I dabble in real estate. A couple of years ago we bought a house from an estate. We needed to replace the appliances, and when we pulled off the oven door to make it lighter to move outside, I found a large tin foil block. They block had $40,000 inside. I guess the old lady did not believe in banks. My husband called the family and returned the money. The family did want to know if we planned to knock out any walls. We did offer to sell the house back to them so they could knock out all the walls, they declined.

We found a set of Cutco knives in our rafters. It sells now for over $500.00, I have been using them ever since and they have a lifetime warranty even though I don't have the original paperwork.

And not really in my house, but my father was a gambler and hit money from my mom. He told DH his hiding spots before he died. Told DH that the money was for him only. It was a substancial amount so we gave it all to my Mom, but ultimately she gave DH a huge portion because that is what my dad wanted.

LOL, that is funny. :goodvibes

Yeah, that is just creepy. Probably was worth some money, though, if it was real Nazi stuff. Of course, I wouldn't want to profit from that either.

My friend moved into a house that an elderly man had owned-she was cleaning out the attic and in the corner of the attic were a bunch of nazi books, a southern flag, a KKK banner and a full KKK outfit!

Our home inspector found a buried oil tank.........the house had an above ground one too. We had the 'owners' pay to have the buried treasure removed :thumbsup2

That is not odd around here- all oil tanks were buried and if they leaked or the owner wanted to get an above ground one they pump the oil out of the old one, cut a hole in the top, fill it in and just bury it- my old one is under my now concrete patio.

:scared1: Wouldn't that be a time to call the police?
Unless it was her father that put it there then he woujldn't want to call attention to that fact!

But WHO puts rings in an old powder puff jar??? :confused3

My grandfather's first wife. When his second wife (15+ years later) was cleaning out a long-neglected medicine cabinet, she found the first wife's engagement ring in a tissue in a pill bottle. Apparently, there were a lot of break-ins and she was concerned about being robbed.

the only thing awesome we found was an old wanted poster for an armored car robbery. My house was the post office for a long time.

As we remodel the house though, before we put a new wall in, I have hidden things in them. No notes or pictures, I hid matchbox in the package and even beanie babies in plastic. I'm sure I'll pick some cool stuff as we do more rooms and stuff. I want to pick something that would be current now but maybe long forgotten by the time we sell. I know matchbox won't be forgotten but it should be a great collectible by the time it's found. We have at least another 10-15 years here, and who knows when anyone else will remodel.

When I moved in to the house I am living in now, I found a mason jar filled with bacon grease on the floor behind the stove. I have no idea how it got there, but it looked like it was about 10 years old. Gross!

Once I rented an old vacation home that had a wall made from stones mortared together. There was a bottle mortared into the wall and you could see that it had a note inside. I SO wanted to break the bottle and see what the note said! Ultimately the desire to keep my security deposit overrode my curiosity.

I grew up in a house that was built in the 1850's. We found a lot of old newspapers and some small trinkets in the walls during a renovation. My favorite though was when we were rewallpapering my bedroom there was a history written on the wall under the wallpaper talking about everything that was done in the house from way back when. An art society recently purchased the house and was doing some major renovations, we made sure they knew about this written history so they could preserve that.

Friends found $1000 in their basement. The previous owner suffered from dementia and presumably stashed it there.

haven't found anything really exciting like some of this stuff...some old newspapers, old pieces of linoleum...
