Ever find an error on your receipt?

I had to do this on Friday night too. I bought 2, 8 packs of fried chicken at Publix on Friday and when I got home to check my receipt one had rang up a dollar more than the other. I wasn't going to go back, but then I went to open up some dip I bought and there was no safety seal under the lid. So, I went back there and returned the dip and argued with the employee about the chicken. She tried to tell me that one I bought was suppose to be a dollar higher, but I told her it was the same chicken! Hubby went with me and after I got the difference back, less than 3.00 with the dip, hubby just laughed at me because he couldn't believe I was arguing over 1.00! I told him that in my life time I have been so nickel and dimed to death that I'm not taking it anymore!

People were a bit aggravated with me @ the store tonight...

Kinda silly... but tonight I bought paper towel (Bounty) on sale... they had it marked @ $3.99 for an 8 pack. It rang up at $9.99. Thats $12 back in my pocket...

So I went to customer service where I assume one would go for an error like this. No one was behind me. I think the store was short staffed or something. So she goes back to look... I swear she was slower then a snail. People started backing up... I could have beat her in speed hands down... and I walk slower then most 90 year olds due to arthritis. :p
First they buzzed the product in. She said "no it's $9.99". I said I realize it rang up as that. My receipt says the same thing. So she goes back to look (I'd gone back when I first came in to make sure we'd seen it right).
I had explained when I went back this time all the paper towel was now gone but the tag was indeed still there and it was on the 8 pack. She told me I must be mistaken as she went back and there was no tag. I wasn't gonna back down! :rotfl2: and insisted there was a tag. So this other gal who was her supervisor and clearly irritated at me says she would go back with me.
So we go back and sure enough there is the tag! The supervisor tried to tell me I must have grabbed the wrong paper towel... Now I had been patient up to this point. I told her if I did I'd be really ticked b/c there were 6 or more packs right there earlier....

In the long run I did indeed grab the right paper towel... according to the sticky thing. The gal removed the sales tag. I got my $12+ back. But it irritated me... $12 isn't that much but it's not the first time I've caught mistakes at this chain of stores.

Ever caught a mistake on your receipt?

Yes, and it infuriates me, everytime. I know there are bigger things to worry about than 25 cents on a box of Macaroni & Cheese - but I do not care. It inFURIATES me.... I imagine all the people, across the country who dont notice the small amount extra theyre charging - and I get totally ticked.

Im one of those pain-in-the-butt folks whom ask the cashier NOT to ring anything up until my cart is emptied and Im standing there, watching every item ring up.

Cuz lets say there's a quarter discrepancy on something. Now I gotta go get in line, at the service desk.... and wait there, too....for a quarter. Is it worth it, probably not - BUT it's my quarter. The whole thing ticks me off.

DH and I were at TRU last friday getting some Christmas shopping done. While walking out to our car I was looking over the receipt and noticed that the Dora The Explorer DVD box set that I bought, I was charged $34.99 for it instead of $29.99 which is what the sticker on the DVD set said.

I took it back in and stood behind this one woman that was returning stuff. The items she was returning were on different receipts. I don't mind being behind people who are returning items as long as they already have their receipts ready to go. I swear this woman had about 20 different TRU receipts she had to look through to find the right ones. Finally after standing there for 20 minutes waiting on her, the lady at customer service goes to the other side of the desk to someone else who just walked up. :confused3 While the lady was taking care of this customer another lady walks up. After the customer service lady was done, she just leaves the desk not saying a word to me or this other lady if she will be back or not. The other lady and I just look at each other. After this lady was gone for about 5 minutes another lady that works for TRU came along and asked if the other lady had helped me yet. Would I still be standing there if she had?????
When I said "NO" and told her what my problem was she couldn't believe that the DVD set rang up that much over what it was. She said $5 is a big price to go over. To some $5 might not be a big deal, but with Christmas around the corner, that $5 can buy a book or small toy for my DD.

Finally after standing in TRU at their customer service desk for around 40 minutes, I finally walked out with my $5.32

Then DH and I headed to Target. I had just received a Tagert card and read nothing about activating it, so I went to customer service. I asked the girl behind the desk what I was suppose to do since there was nothing mentioned on the letter about how or if I have to activate it. She looked on the back of the card and told me to call the phone #. I asked her since I was here if she could do it for me so I could use it today. Well of course not! Like she had so much to do. She was just standing there when I went up. That really ticked me off!!! After getting a couple of items, we went to check out. I asked the cashier about my card and what customer service told me. She took my card, picked up her phone, and called the # on the back. Right then and there she activated it for me. Now what was the problem with customer service???

There was also a time at Wal Mart either the cashier or DH forgot a bag. I took the receipt in the next day and asked if maybe the items were at the customer service desk. Nope not there. I figured the items more then likely went home with the person that was behind DH. The lady at the customer service desk told me just to go and get the items that were missing and bring them back to her. So that is what I did. She put them in a bag, gave back my receipt, and said there you go. The best service I had in quite some time. Just goes to show, no matter where you shop, bad customer service can be anywhere.

ha! Fry's is part of Kroegers and they did not offer me a free product. In fact they tried to take the one I bought (and had hauled back into the store). Glad you got your sauce for free!!

They have a different supervisor who is very nice... :) and maybe this one gal was stretched too far.... I dunno. It was a mad house in there...

Snoopymom said:
At Krogers when that happens, they give it to you for free, well, they give you one for free... I had 10 jars of tomato sauce ring up wrong once, but I would have never expected them to give me all 10 for free, LOL. Also, there is always a manager hanging around up front at the one I shop at, and they hire the best special kids to bag the groceries. I just love the store!

Kroger is notorious for this in my area. I always get at least a few of my items for free after shopping there, because there are always a few things that ring up wrong (and Kroger does, as someone said earlier, give you all your money back PLUS the product if they're wrong.) I usually don't complain if it's 50 cents or less, but usually they're off by much more than that!

Earlier this year, they consistently had Purina ONE cat food on sale but it consistently rang up the wrong price at the register. We'd buy a bag every few weeks and it always rang up incorrectly. So we had free pet food for about 2 months before they finally fixed the problem.

I got a bottle of wine free once, too. :earseek:

It's irritating that they're wrong so often, but it's nice to get the money back.

Just so you know customers NEVER forget their bags, the cashier forgets to give them to you! That is one of my big problems with Target, they very rarely put the bags in the cart. So here I am trying to grab all my bags and they are already bagging stuff for the next order!

I train cashiers and if one of them calls me over and says "the customer forgot their bread..(or any other item) they are told pretty plainly by me that the customer did not forget, THEY forgot to give the customer their gorcery item.

Yeap!

Last sat me & friend went for a drink and the bill seemed very high for two pints & two packets of crisps so my friend questioned it...

After 'forever' the bar girl stopped trying to get around it by saying she didnt know how to get back to her last order on the till and asked for help, they had charged us for two drinks too many!

Yes I had a big one from Target. After Christmas last year they had gift wrap on sale I bought 2 at $3.00 a piece so that's $6. We had purchased a ton of other stuff so when the total came out higher than I expected I didn't worry too much about it. As we are walking out I look at the receipt I notice that instead of charging me for 2 rolls of gift wrap the sales kid had actually charged me for 48 rolls of wrapping paper for a total of $144. I never even left the store but went right back to the customer service counter where all the cashiers thought it was hysterical. Anyway they fixed it pretty quick but the refused to give me cash back. They would only refund me the $144 via gift card. Thanks goodness that it was Target and I new I would end up using it there but I fought with them for quite a while but the would not give me cash.

I told her I tried to remove just the sales tag and she freaked on me and told me never EVER remove tags off the shelves... sale or otherwise. They won't know a product goes there. :confused3 I told her I couldn't anyways...

She was a wee bit cranky with me :(

Oh yeah...they get really cranky about that....but gosh, I'm just a dumb customer, I can't be expected to know better.... ;)

Just curious, did you pay cash? Cause if I did, I would have INSISTED I get cash back. Even though I shop at Target, that's money out of my checking account in their pocket.

Geez, that doesn't sound right. You must have bought a lot of other stuff to have not noticed right away. :earseek:

There's no way I would have accepted a gift card for something that was their mistake to begin with.

No, I paid by check.

We did have a ton of other stuff, but I also had a miserable 5 year old and a screaming infant. I just wanted to get out of the store. ;)

I know, I should have put up a bigger fight, but I was just too tired. Plus, I knew I would use it.

You have to be careful with rebate items too. This weekend I bought a wireless card and router. I was $59.99 and the other $69.99. One was suppose tohave a $20 rebate and the other a $30 rebate. Well, I check the rebates that printed out and there is only $40 worth of rebates. I called the store and they wanted me to come back and they would give me the $10 back which was nice, but I would have wasted $5 in gas just going! So I reiterated it was the store's mistake and, because I paid with a credit card they were able to bring up my order with the ticket # and they said they would give me $10 credit on my cc. We'll see how long that takes and whether I have to call back or not!!

I constantly catch mistakes on receipts which is why I try to scan everything with the store scanners if they have them, or go to the self-checker line so I can see every item. I usually also try to look over the receipt before I leave the store so I don't have to go back (what I failed to do the last time - there was so much paper with the rebates!!).

Just this weekend I went to Sears and bought 2 shirts on sale...10.99 & 17.99, with an extra 10% off the girl was telling me it was 32.??. I asked how much they rang up as and she said I had to sign first then she could tell me. I refused to sign because it was clearly wrong.
I had the same problem at Sears. They rang it up wrong- the clerk was in a hurry and goofed- and then they said I had to sign the credit card receipt. I said I am not signing that I bought something when I did not buy it at the price on the receipt. Another clerk came over and told me again that I had to sign it, I said I certainly would not sign something that said that I agreed to the charge. I insisted then that the manager be called. The manager said of course I didn't have to sign something that was false. She voided the transaction and rang up the items correctly.

Every time I go to CVS I am over charged on sale items...and this is at a few different CVS's

She took the items to another register and told me the prices. They rang up as 10.99 & 17.99 and she looked at me like I was still wrong. I said thats 11 and 18...that makes 29, it cant be over 30 (nevermind the extra 10% off). Then she tells me its tax. TAX on shirts? She just sat there dumbfounded until luckily someone came and helped her void it out and ring it up again.

Luckily I was paying attention.

Just wondering.....you don't pay tax on shirts in MA?????
