Ever, Ever After: The TR Formerly Known as Wishing You Were Here- May 2011

I don't think I'm going to write a PTR for our October trip. It's coming up so fast that it's nearly too late already.

I do have a few plans I'd like to share and maybe get some second opinions.

1. We're staying at Pop Century, Sept 30th through Oct. 9th. I had booked us originally at CBR, which is the only moderate resort I haven't stayed at. I was feeling very uneasy about it and I thought the boys would prefer Pop Century any way and it would be so much cheaper that I switched. Carter's been talking about taking his suitcase to Pop Century, so I think it was a good move.
We will be at the POP Sept. 28th - Oct 2nd. I think I'm going to put a message board on our door. If you see it , leave me a note!
2.
We're attending our first ever MNSSHP. I can't wait to see the headless horseman and take the boys trick or treating. The tricky part, of course, is what to wear. Above all, we must be comfortable. After weeks and weeks of careful thought and consideration, I chose our theme- Survivor. I bought two small Tiki torches that can be rigged to the stroller unobstructively. Of course, they will remain unlit, but I think I may be able to use some glow sticks for a lit up effect. The headless horseman is really cool. The Survivor theme sounds fun.

I also found a place online to buy Survivor bandanas, which I haven't ordered yet. I figured I'd get one for each of us and we could wear them with whatever clothes seem comfortable and weather appropriate. I also was planning to make myself an immunity necklace.

I was happy with my theme. It would be cheap and practical and still somewhat festive and unique.

And then it happened. I was shopping at Target and found the coolest Halloween shirt for little boys. It has Pirate Mickey on it and he's trick or treating and it says "Surrender Yer Loot". I loved it immediately and bought two.

Now, I'm not sure whether the boys should wear their Mickey shirts to the party or if they should be Survivor people and wear the shirts another day or if they should wear the Mickey shirts and Survivor bandanas. Would that be too much of a juxtaposition?

I could scrap the Survivor idea, since all I've bought for it is the torches. Or I could save the shirts for something else. Or the boys could wear the Mickey shirts and Jeremy and I could be Survivor people. What do you all think?
Let the boys wear the Mickey shirts and keep the Survivor theme. I think with a little creative thinking you should be able to blend the 2 nicely.
3. A) We're also running the 5K, stroller division. I've heard rumors that people dress up for that, too. Does anyone know if that's mostly true or mostly not? I suppose it would be easy enough to bring our Survivor bandanas and put them on if everyone else is dressed up. Of course, that would be harder, if I decided not to do the Survivor theme.
We are also running the 5K stroller division. I have heard of people dressing up. We are not. It just seems like it would be hard to run a costume. I would do it for the Princess half tho[./COLOR]
B) I'm trying to plan what to do after the race and not sure exactly what would be best. I've never run a 5K before and all I know is that it has an unforgettable finish. How long do most people spend at an unforgettable finish?
I have heard they do have characters along the race coarse and at the finish. Don't know how unforgettable it is going to be, but should definitely be fun!

I was thinking we would spend some time at AK after the race, since we'd be right there and would have a great chance of making rope drop. But, I know that the boys would be miserable sitting in the stroller doing nothing for an hour while we wait for the park to open. A early ADR at Tusker House would be perfect, but of course, nothing is available. I have an ADR at RFC at 8:30, but I'm afraid we'd still be eating when the rope dropped and that would be a shame.
I gave up on the ADR for Tusker House. We have 8:45 at RFC. My son really like RFC and that gives us time to hang out after the race if we want to. I'm not really concerned with rope drop. We have never made one yet:lmao:

4. Rope Drop. Never been. I'm working on a grand scheme to make it to Rope Drop this trip. We won't go so far as to set an alarm or anything, but I'd like to try to get out of the room faster in the morning.
Yup, Me Too!:thumbsup2
I'm thinking of using large Ziplock bags to streamline the process of getting ready. I can have one with extra diapers and clothes and toys for every day and just grab one on our way out the door. I could have a separate Ziplock bag filled with snacks and breakfast food, so we don't waste time eating in the room. Eating breakfast while we wait for the park to open might also help pass the time with the boys.
Me too!
A few rope drop questions- How early is too early to get to the parks? What is the ideal time to arrive? Is it possible to let 2 well behaved toddlers out of the stroller to play while we wait or would they be trampled by the rest of the crowd? Generally speaking, is it better to get a Fastpass first or to ride first?

5. Somehow, Landon had a few seconds alone with my camera and managed to demolish it. I don't know how he did it. If I had my camera, I'd take a picture of the boys' Pirate Mickey shirts, but as it is, you'll have to imagine them.

Since the old camera is out of order, we decided to purchase a new camera- the Canon S95. I'm hoping it will be able to take some beautiful Disney pictures, especially at night. I'm also hoping I can figure out how to use it. Does anyone have any experience with a Canon S95? Any tips for me?

Overall, I'm so excited about this trip. It's going to be our best trip ever with the boys. 4 weeks left!

This will be our first trip with my daughter. She will be 22 months when we leave. I'm a little nervous about how she will behave. It's definitely going to be a much slower pace than I'm used to. Hope I can handle that:lmao:

Hi Kate:wave2: I am a long time lurker on your TR and may I say you and your boys are ADORABLE! My family and I just got back from a 10 day trip and I am going back with my 2 sisters and 3 friends for a long weekend (Sept. 30 - Oct. 3) to run in the 5K!:yay: We are also staying at POP for our first time. I will be on the lookout for you!:thumbsup2

That's a fun idea! I'll leave a note, if I see it.
The headless horseman is really cool. The Survivor theme sounds fun.
I can't wait to see the headless horseman. Maybe Jeremy will even get a picture of him.
Let the boys wear the Mickey shirts and keep the Survivor theme. I think with a little creative thinking you should be able to blend the 2 nicely.
That's true, I could probably blend the themes and have it be fine.
We are also running the 5K stroller division. I have heard of people dressing up. We are not. It just seems like it would be hard to run a costume. I would do it for the Princess half tho
That's just what I was thinking, too. Wearing a costume might make it harder to run, and we certainly don't need that. Maybe the boys will wear costume jammies for the race and we'll call that good.
I have heard they do have characters along the race coarse and at the finish. Don't know how unforgettable it is going to be, but should definitely be fun!
I'll have to take the boys to meet whichever characters are at the end. They both seem to be very into characters at the moment, if their love for the Chick Fil A cow is any indication.
I gave up on the ADR for Tusker House. We have 8:45 at RFC. My son really like RFC and that gives us time to hang out after the race if we want to. I'm not really concerned with rope drop. We have never made one yet
I wish I had made a Tusker House ADR 180 days out, but somehow it just didn't occur to me that there would be that much time between the finish of the race and rope drop. I love RFC, too, but I think there's a fair chance one of my sons would be too freaked out by the atmosphere to eat anything.
Yup, Me Too!

I think 22 months is a great age for Disney. That's how old Carter was on our December trip and he had the best time riding on all the rides. He was having too much fun to misbehave. I'm sure Meadow will have a great time, too.

Hi! Anyone who says my boys are adorable is always welcome. :rotfl: Wow, you're so lucky, getting to go back so soon after a 10 day trip! I always find a direct correlation between how soon my next trip is and how sad I am when it's the last day. I'm really excited about the 5K. It should be a lot of fun. If you see us at Pop, come say hi. :goodvibes

It looked like the wait time for the Magic Carpets of Aladdin wasn't very long, but I felt that Carter's dinner should wait no longer.

We left Adventureland, planning to stop in Casey's quickly before continuing to Tomorrowland, to ride as much as possible. There were tons of people hanging around on Main Street, waiting for the parade to start.

We didn't turn back, despite the crowds. We pushed our way through to Casey's. Jeremy took the boys to sit by the bleachers while I ordered Carter's food.

I picked a line that looked short with only two people in front of me. I waited and waited and waited, and my line still hadn't moved. The people at the front of the line had ordered and were waiting for their food.

The line next to me seemed to be moving much faster, so I line hopped. As always with line hopping, as soon as I moved, the line I abandoned got shorter.

Now the line I was in was taking forever. I couldn't switch back, either, since someone else had joined that line. Nothing to do but wait. So I waited. And after that, I waited some more.

At last it was my turn. I ordered Carter some corn dog nuggets with fries and a brownie. Not the most nutritious meal in the world, but it was his last night on vacation and I thought he'd like it. Besides, he had milk to drink, so that should count for something.

Finally, I had his food and took it over to the bleachers. Carter was happiest to see his milk. Landon wanted to know if any of the food was for him, so I gave him some nuggets and fries, which he ate happily.

"Carter, you want a corn dog nugget?"

Carter shook his head no.

"How about a fry?"

"Carter fry."

Carter took his fry and ate half of it. He handed his fry out to me.

"Take fry."

"Take fry? You don't want it?"

Landon stretched his little hand out lightning fast and took Carter's fry and ate it. I guess he figured someone should eat it, if Carter didn't want it.

Carter refused any more bites and only wanted to drink his milk. Well, that was fine. We had plenty of rides to ride anyway. I gave Landon some fries and nuggets to eat while we walked over to Tomorrowland.

That is, while we tried to walk over to Tomorrowland. The parade had just ended and there were people everywhere. We successfully made it across Main Street, with the help of a CM with a flashlight, waving people the right way.

It was on the path that goes by the Plaza that we got stuck. We were all standing there, packed together, taking up all the available space. For awhile, no one was moving at all. We were deadlocked.

It was highly unpleasant. I don't consider myself to be claustrophobic at all, but to be that close to so many people and unable to move away from any of them was getting to me.

After standing there for what felt like forever, but was probably a few minutes, the crowds started to break up a bit and we were able to inch forward.

I was only able to inch the double stroller a few feet before people started passing us left and right. There were so many people going around us that it was impossible for us to move again.

"We should just turn around. We'll never get through here, when people keep cutting us off like this."

"I think it would take just as long to get back out of here. Don't let them get to you. We'll get through here pretty soon."

"Maybe you should yell "Everybody MOVE" like Fezzik and then everyone can step aside and we'll walk right up the middle."

"As nice as that sounds, I suspect that there are more people who would move for Andre the Giant than would move for me."

"You could try it anyway."

"I don't think so."

We stood there, getting passed again and again, because of the double stroller. At last, I saw a small opening in the crowd and pushed my stroller through it. We were making progress again.

We managed to keep moving at a snail's pace without being passed again. I was watching for potential passers closely and was getting adept at cutting them off before they could cut me off.

Once we made it to the Tomorrowland Terrace, the crowds broke up and we were finally able to walk normally.

It had been annoying, especially since we should have known better than to try to cross the park that time of night, but it was over and we could get back to our evening of riding as many rides as possible until the park closed.

I was ready to get far away from crowds, which led us to our next destination- the Peoplemover.

Jeremy and Landon sat across from Carter and me. Landon was fairly sure that the no dancing rules didn't apply to him.

DSCI0391.JPG

Carter was happy to sit next to me, just like a grownup.

DSCI0394.JPG

Jeremy told Landon that the rules probably did apply to him just like everyone else. Landon sat, but he didn't think it was very fair.

DSCI0393.JPG

We heard the new Memories Castle show starting up, but we could only catch glimpses of the show from the Peoplemover. Maybe next time.

It was a fun ride and by the end of it, I had completely recovered from the horrid walk to Tomorrowland. We got off the Peoplemover and moved on the the next ride.

It's a shame that Carter didn't want to eat. I guess you could have ridden the carpets afterall! :lmao: It really is a good thing that Carter has a little brother that is so willing to help out and eat the food he doesn't want.:thumbsup2

I'm sorry about the crowd getting to Tomorrowland. You need to be more like those over aggressive stroller pushers that people complain about on the DIS all the time. :rotfl2: The Peoplemover is a great way to get off your feet, relax and calm down.

How aggravating (& rude) that people kept cutting y'all off while trying to get to Tomorrowland! :sad2: But, I'm glad that y'all did finally make it over there. I love hopping on the Peoplemover & just relaxing for a bit. I'm going to guess that the next ride was Buzz Lightyear. Do I win anything if I guess right? :confused3

I always seem to pick the wrong line!! It never fails, and then I move...and the old line speeds up. Ugh...every time!

Ugh...I would have been so frustrated trying to get through those people, and their rudeness. :sad2: but I really like the people mover...looking forward to the fun you had after that! :thumbsup2

That always happens to me too! I get frustrated, move and then I stand still in the next line while the one I just jumped out of started to move at lightning speed:confused3 Great pics once again of those beautiful boys!

That line stuff always happens to me, too! I always have that moment where I know it'll speed up if I switch, but I move anyway. :headache: I have the worst luck with stuff like that.

Don't parades create the worst messes sometimes? Glad your Peoplemover ride gave you a break to relax after that! Carter looks so cute sitting like a grownup!

One of our local grocery stores sells Gold Peak tea. I know I can make it for so much less at home, but every once in a while i have to get it just because its all i drink at Disney!

You managed to hit both my favorite CS's at MK in one night!
I'm glad that Landon made up for the girl at CHH by making a new friend on the Jungle Cruise.

I happen to have a picture of your Mickey shirt. I snapped one to show a friend of mine. Its on my phone, but if you want it to put in your TR, just message me with your email.

As for rope drops, we are working on them too because there is such a difference! We went to the bus stop an hour before park opening. That put us there 20-30 minutes ahead of opening. I'm sure it may take more time in busy periods but it was fine in the lighter crowds. We were a few people back, but not too far. The time passed quickly because they soon let you through the turnstyles and you move on to a new spot to wait with new things to look at.

The thing that slows us down the most in the mornings is not having things ready. So prepacking snack bags and diaper bags would definitely help.

As for the fastpass vs ride first part- not exactly sure on that one yet. I think alot of it depends on the number of fastpasses you need for the day.
at ak in May, i sent Chris for fp for EE. We should have waited to get them until afterwards due to our breakfast schedule. I could have easily sent him ahead to the safari and he could have had the fastpasses before we caught up. At dhs, we had made the decision that we would decide once we saw the lines. it just so happened that by the time i got the strollers parked, kids out, etc, he was done getting fastpasses and we jumped in the standby. the line was short- maybe 15ish minutes. then afterwards, we went straight across to woody and buzz, who were just openind up. there line was 20 minutes then- but i saw i think it was up to an hour and a half at other times of the day. at mk, we ususally start in fantasyland. so i like to have chris run ahead and grab some. typically i'll have him get pooh, because the turn time in the morning is so very short. then we ride peter pan walk on, and maybe one more walk on, grab a set of peter, ride a couple more, and by that time we make it towards frontierland and are ready for more fastpasses.

make sure you save time for the boo to you parade- so awesome!!!

How frustrating that people kept cutting off your stroller! I didn't understand until I was the one pushing the stroller, but people are really rude! :headache: I'll admit that I am a bit of an aggressive stroller driver, and I have been known to clip a few ankles, but I figure that all is fair in love, war, and navigating Walt Disney World. You all can feel free to hate me now! :lmao:

I'm glad you finally got through, and that you had a nice ride on the TTA, it really is a great ride at night, and how awesome that you were able to catch portions of the new castle show!

Sounds stressful. Trying to move around Magic Kingdom when the night shows are going on is insanity. It's as if people lose all common sense and go nuts.
Glad you were able to recover and relax on the Peoplemover!

I love the Magic Kingdom, but trying to move around during or after a parade or Wishes is just insane and frustrating!!! Glad you made it to Tomorrowland eventually, and went on the Peoplemover, that's always fun and relaxing! :cool1:

Love the Princess Bride reference. :thumbsup2

Thanks! :)

It's a shame that Carter didn't want to eat. I guess you could have ridden the carpets afterall! :lmao: It really is a good thing that Carter has a little brother that is so willing to help out and eat the food he doesn't want.:thumbsup2

It was too bad Carter didn't want to eat. We could have ridden the Carpets or Pirates again or saved time by not waiting in the slowest lines ever at Casey's. At least Landon liked it, though. I'm sure Carter's very grateful to have such a helpful little brother.

I should have known not to go that way that time at night. Maybe I can find some aggressive stroller threads on the DIS and pick up some pointers for next time. I love the Peoplemover. It's such a relaxing ride.

:confused3

That was one of the worst traffic jams I had ever been in at Disney World and it was really aggravating that people thought they could go around my stroller. But I guess we made it through and it ended up being a minor irritation. I love riding on the Peoplemover. Before we had kids, we always rode twice around on the Peoplemover. You're most likely right about Buzz Lightyear, but I regret to inform you that prizes of any kind will not be offered. I think we're way too predictable for that.:rotfl:

I always seem to pick the wrong line!! It never fails, and then I move...and the old line speeds up. Ugh...every time!

Ugh...I would have been so frustrated trying to get through those people, and their rudeness. :sad2: but I really like the people mover...looking forward to the fun you had after that! :thumbsup2

It used to happen to me all the time, but then, I just stopped switching lines. The lines at Casey's that night were just so slow that I had to give it a shot.

It was very frustrating to be stuck like that, especially once people started passing us. But there's nothing like a ride on the Peoplemover to restore the pleasant evening.

That always happens to me too! I get frustrated, move and then I stand still in the next line while the one I just jumped out of started to move at lightning speed:confused3 Great pics once again of those beautiful boys!

I hate it when that happens! It seems to be almost guaranteed that if you switch lines, it'll end up taking longer. I don't remember Casey's being so slow the last times we were there, but that night, it took so long. Thank you! I thought the boys were looked very good that night.

Next time I'll just stay where I am. It can't happen like that if I don't switch lines. :rotfl: I think I'll avoid Casey's during parade and fireworks time, too.

That parade had made the worst mess down our path. There were some people going one way and some people going the other way and some people who wanted to get off to the side and stand there to watch Wishes. And there were way too many people, no matter where they were going. Thanks! I thought Carter looked cute. He was so pleased with himself, sitting like everyone else, except for Landon, who's still a baby.

One of our local grocery stores sells Gold Peak tea. I know I can make it for so much less at home, but every once in a while i have to get it just because its all i drink at Disney!

We have a grocery store here that sells Gold Peak tea, too. I also buy it sometimes, just because it's Disney tea. I guess it is more expensive than buying it at home, but it is cheaper than driving through Chick Fil A and buying a cup of tea, so I figure it's all relative.

You managed to hit both my favorite CS's at MK in one night!
I'm glad that Landon made up for the girl at CHH by making a new friend on the Jungle Cruise.

I sort of wish we had not made it to Casey's since it took forever and Carter didn't want to eat anyway. If only he would tell me he isn't hungry before I buy food for him. Landon was having a great night, between his Magical Milk, his friend on the Jungle Cruise and getting to eat Carter's dinner. I'm sure he had forgotten all about the CHH girl.

I happen to have a picture of your Mickey shirt. I snapped one to show a friend of mine. Its on my phone, but if you want it to put in your TR, just message me with your email.

I would love to have a picture of the shirts! I sent you a message. I'm thinking of having the boys wear their Pirate Mickey shirts during the race. They might even sleep in them the night before, to save time in the morning.

It'll be nice to already be inside the turnstiles when the rope drops. For every park but MK, I think it should be faster to drive than to take the buses. Hopefully, it will be lighter crowds for most of our week. I know Columbus Saturday at the end will be crazy, but maybe the rest of the week will be light.

The thing that slows us down the most in the mornings is not having things ready. So prepacking snack bags and diaper bags would definitely help.

Us, too! It's not only the time packing things in the morning, but also the time that we are still in the room and the boys need drink refills or we have to break up toy fights. It takes forever sometimes.

As for the fastpass vs ride first part- not exactly sure on that one yet. I think alot of it depends on the number of fastpasses you need for the day.
at ak in May, i sent Chris for fp for EE. We should have waited to get them until afterwards due to our breakfast schedule. There probably won't be too many attractions we'll want to Fastpass, except for at MK. I could easily send Jeremy up ahead to grab Fastpasses for whatever we want first, and he could meet us at whatever we want to ride first. I keep wishing Disney would add another cool ride at DHS that little kids could go on, to take the pressure off TSM, but Jeremy says that having an attraction with lines like that probably doesn't bother them like it does us.
make sure you save time for the boo to you parade- so awesome!!!

I can't wait to see the Boo to You parade! I've got the soundtrack for my iPod for the drive down. We're planning on watching Hallowishes from a last minute location so the boys don't spend all of their patience waiting for fireworks. Then, we'll hopefully get front side seats in Frontierland for the parade. I'm planning on doing some trick or treating first, and letting the boys eat candy during the whole parade, if necessary. Can't wait to see that Headless Horseman!

I'm glad you finally got through, and that you had a nice ride on the TTA, it really is a great ride at night, and how awesome that you were able to catch portions of the new castle show!

People can be so rude at Disney World. I've always considered myself to be a highly considerate stroller driver, but I had had enough that night. Don't worry, I don't think any less of you for being an aggressive driver, although, if I ever see you coming toward me with a stroller, I'm going to get out of the way.

I love riding the TTA at night or anytime, really, but it like so much at Disney, it's just slightly more magical at night. Someday, I'd like to see the new castle show for real. Maybe next time!

Sounds stressful. Trying to move around Magic Kingdom when the night shows are going on is insanity. It's as if people lose all common sense and go nuts.
Glad you were able to recover and relax on the Peoplemover!

I thought it was stressful, but Jeremy said it wasn't really. He said everyone passing us just wanted out of the crowds like we did, which was probably true, but any way you look at it, we were still stuck.
The Peoplemover is one of my favorites.

I love the Magic Kingdom, but trying to move around during or after a parade or Wishes is just insane and frustrating!!! Glad you made it to Tomorrowland eventually, and went on the Peoplemover, that's always fun and relaxing! :cool1:

Next trip, we'll definitely have to plan better and avoid that path at night. Maybe at MNSSHP, we'll plan on viewing Hallowishes from Frontierland or Fantasyland, so we won't have to cross the park.

Once we got to Tomorrowland, every thing was fine again, so that's good. Nothing a spin on the Peoplemover can't fix. :goodvibes

Jeremy has experimenting with the new camera since it arrived and I looked today to see how the pictures look on it.

I was pleasantly surprised to see some pictures of some of my recent Disney purchases. Jeremy does have a knack for photography, it seems.

First, the Halloween shirts from Target that the boys may wear sometime.

IMG_0047.JPG

And a close up of Mickey.

IMG_0048.JPG

Aren't those cute? I'm thinking I'll keep them, no matter when the boys wear them.

I was at the Disney Store awhile ago and I found some new Princess nail polish. Ten colors, one for each princess, plus Pocahontas and Mulan. I couldn't resist that.

IMG_0041.JPG

I reorganized all the colors in order of my favorite princesses. Tiana, of course, is my absolute favorite princess, followed closely by Rapunzel, Belle, and Aurora. Is anyone else bothered by the fact that Pocahontas and Mulan are not actually princesses?

And of course, there were plenty of pictures of the boys, since they will likely be the main subject of most pictures.

I think the new camera will work out pretty well. I can't wait to see how it does at Disney. Only three weeks left!

They are so stinkin' cute!:lovestruc

(Obviously I mean the boys and not the shirts or nail polishes, though those are also adorable.)

THREE WEEKS! You're almost there!

I think your camera is going to do the trick just fine! Of course, you have some pretty good subject matter there! ;)
