Crepe paper......muslin material in strips.....

My kids school makes kites every year. The principal is really into it and has a different kite for each grade level. Then on a disignated day towards the end of the school year the entire school goes out and flies a kite. It is amazing to have over 400 + kites flying at one time... many do get tangled but others remain up in flight for a long time. Last year my daughters was up for over one hour straight and then we had to pull it in because school had been out for over 1/2 hour.

What can you use for the tail?

Old sheets ripped in to long strips. At least I think that was what we used to do when I was a kid.
