Ever been "upgraded"?

Since my last post we were upgraded again as Disney forgot to book the room...:confused3

Anyway, we went from standard room at AKL to a Hospitality Suite at the Contemporary (again for two weeks). There were a few issues that trip and also had half the rom cost refunded as well.

Would they tell you if you have been upgraded? We just got back from Grand Floridian and I booked a garden view room, when we checked in we got a room in conch Key bldg that overlooked the lake?

We've been lucky to have two upgrades on our last three trips. The first trip we were doing a split stay, CSR and GF. We don't have kids of our own, but DH coaches soccer and we were there for the 3v3 tournament. I went to check us in at GF while he waited to coach his next game. I was telling the CM that this was our first trip in 3 years and we were so excited to move over to GF because we had just spent 3 days with 10 kids who are not ours - ha! DH had not been to WDW since he was 8 and was too small to ride Space Mountain, and his older sister tormented him about it the whole trip , so that would be our first ride that afternoon. She said our room wasn't ready yet but when it was they'd call. We went to the final game (they won the tournament), then Magic Kingdom, and returned to our room. A perfect view of Space Mountain. We were floored. And Mickey and Minnie sent champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and a rose with a card for our anniversary. Amazing! I almost forgot, while at CSR they upgraded us to try out their club lounge because it had just opened. It was amazing and because the same cast members still work there, any time we return we stop by to say hi and they always invite us in for espresso (using the machine we helped them troubleshoot) and snacks. We love Luisito, Willie, John and Dave!!

On our third trip this past March, the Granger convention was back at CSR. We don't mind them being there but usually they are there in January so we thought we'd miss them this year. Not so. Well we had asked for Cabanas but our room wasn't ready. They said they had us in Casitas. I asked since the room wasn't ready if they could just out us in the next available room in Cabanas? They said, well we have you in a 1-bedroom suite in Casitas. We said 'we'll take it!' It was amazing.

We're heading back on Christmas day for another soccer tournament and to celebrate our anniversary and my birthday (that I share with Walt Disney). We would love more pixie dust but know we've been really lucky in the past.

We have received one little upgrade. On our last trip, we had booked AKL savannah view with 2 queen beds. We got an upgrade to bunk beds which they didn't tell us about, so we found out when we walked into the room. It wasn't as exciting as an upgrade to the Royal Asante suite would have been,:lmao: but we were happy. The kids had wanted bunk beds before we went and we had said no because we didn't want to pay the extra cost.

Has anyone been upgraded using rented DVC points?

It has happened, but it's highly unusual....much less common than upgrades at non DVC resorts, and those are pretty rare to begin with.

Timeshares operate differently than hotels do. An upgrade will only occur if they can't put you in the villa you were assigned to, usually due to a maintenance issue, and there are no other villas of that category available at that resort.

I just got back from Disney and we were upgraded from Wilderness Lodge to Beach Club Club level! There was a water pipe break or something in the WL so they sent us over to the Beach Club. :cool1:

It was so exciting! I've been to Disney a lot and this is the first time we were upgraded!

We were upgraded last year from Wilderness Lodge to Polynesian for some pipe problems. Seems like this is becoming common at the Lodge.

I wonder if they do not send you upgrade pins if you book with a travel agent. We always use an agent, but my friend booked through Disney and got an upgrade pin for a deluxe for a little more a night. I am so jealous.

We've stayed at WL 3 times and each time were upgraded from standard view- once to woods view and twice to Courtyard. When we went for our anniversary we got turndown service each night as part of the upgrade....not as luxurious as being upgraded to club level but still nice! :)

We've rented points for several stays at AKL, each time paying for a standard view... and every time we've been to AKL (always in June) we've been upgraded (free of charge and without asking) to a Savannah view! My little one always referred to it as the "hotel at the zoo"! Great times!

It was nice being upgraded to CL because I always thought how exciting it would be and how I wish I could afford something like that. I now know that I'm not missing out on much, IMO. It was an experience, and one I feel lucky to have had, but I no longer WISH I could afford it. I'm happy with where I can afford to stay. :lovestruc

I've stayed at GF for the last 20 years and never recieved an upgrade until this last Feb. I booked with a request in Big Pine Key. When we went to check in on the morning of arrival, they upgraded us to Sugarloaf Club level. I was very suprised. I always pay for which building I want and don't expect upgrades, but this was a great suprise for me!!

On one of our 1st trips, I think in 2002, we got upgraded to a preferred at ASMu. Didn't realize it was an upgrade at the time.

We were upgraded in 2007 from a studio to a 1 bedroom at SSR. The CM said it was because of DS's 1st trip but she couldn't take her eyes off of my DH- but I truly understand. I can't take my eyes off of him a lot either.

In 2010, we got upgraded to a big ol' suite at CR. Again, they said it was for my DS's 5th bday, but again, this time, the young lady CM couldn't take her eyes off my DH- the whole time. Even though I was paying, I was signing, I was asking a few questions, etc. But again, I will pimp him out every single time I go if it will help. :rotfl2:

I will say this, however. I am always the lucky one when it comes to drinking. My DH and DS always get free cookies and lollipops for bdays and such, but I always get the free shots of tequila and wine, especially at the La Cava del Tequila at EPCOT. I think I end up the luckier of the group!!!

My sorority sisters and I (8 in all) went to DW this past March for our last spring break in college. We booked two rooms in A.S.Music and when we arrived, the sweet lady at check-in said they were overbooked and we got Animal Kingdom Lodge for the whole week for the same price! I even got a bit of a refund since I had prepaid for a fridge in our room at ASM.

On top of that, we got fastpasses from strangers in the park as soon as we walked into Magic Kingdom because they had to leave.

I was SO blessed!!:cool1:

Here's a random upgrade question - has anyone ever been upgraded at Shades of Green? I know it isn't a Disney resort, but it is on property. Just curious!

Did they give you two rooms at the GF or a roll away bed? We are a family of five checking into POR on the 1st day of Pop Warner week also. I am praying for an upgrade because I hate cheerleaders - sorry, but they make noise and we like quiet! What time did you check-in? Just wondering. I would take ANY hotel as long as we still had room for 5!

According to what I read POR won't be a POP Warner hotel this year like last year CBR is the 2011 moderate.

In Feb '10 we were upgraded from standard/pool view bunk to savannah view bunks at AKL.
