Ever been to the office Christmas party from hell?

Boy, I thought one of my old employers party was bad. One of the last ones that was really bad was just after the president "retired". We had an interim president, and 3 brand new employees, one of which was the "B" of the office. This woman really got herself in with the board members and was doing things that were not in her job description, but not doing what she should have been doing.

My DH & I got there early as well as another couple. Once the room was ready, we went in and got seats. The president & his wife arrived and seated themselves next to the other couple. The "B" arrived at the same time as another employee. She pushed past the other employee and rushed to sit next to my husband. Not the best idea. Plus this put her directly across from the president. Her new husband proceeded to drink quite a bit, and then ordered the most expensive item on the menu. This was being sponsored by another company and some of the board members.

Needless to say, after this couple left, everyone talked about how much the husband drank and how much she tried to monopolize the conversation with the boss. Even the boss noticed this. He really did not like her and the way she was trying to manipulate the board. But because he was only an interim position, he could not do anything.

Thankfully her husband got a job in another state and she left the job.

Several years ago a newly opened, upscale boutique hotel hosted a lovely Christmas party for my employer. The party was a generous gift to recognize our nonprofit work. One employee got drunk and passed out in the ladies' room. The bathroom was small and the employee was quite tall, so her back was against the door and her feet were against the opposite wall. No one could open the door to pull her out.

The paramedics were called and the fire department soon afterward. The fire department had to hack down the door to get it open. While administering medical attention, the paramedics discovered that the woman was actually a pre-op male-to-female transsexual.

That was one doozy of a Christmas party!

As far as it being required, I guess technically is not required but they are a small group, about 10 in my husband's department and if we both did not attend his bosses and coworkers would ask why and he is so sensitive to this kind of thing he would not hear of not going.

The last really fun office party they had there was a karaoke machine but also an open bar and you really can't have the former without the latter. It was a big hit though. I have been to the parties since where the employees provide the entertainment and it is soooooo bad.

My DH is a partner in an office.
They always throw a big nice party. But have decided this year to make it a cash bar -partly because of the money -but partly because they are worried someone will get killed.
Some people hear "open bar" and really go nuts. They are worried someone will get hurt or they will get sued because one of their employees causes an accident.

My last Xmas work party I went to: Before they had 2 parties, 1 for the families, bring your kids and Santa would be there and then 1 for adults only.

Well out the window for the kids party and the adult party went something like this:

My boss who was and is well not of much character-completely sober she did this move with her assistant-who's fiance was there. acting like she was Jennifer Grey in Dirty dancing. ended up having her legs wrapped around the assistants waist. Shouting ride me Cowboy

then my one co worker who never drank, drank everything in sight and puked on the table, luckily I was dancing because she ended up puking in part of my chair.

I never get invited to parties like this either.
I wonder if shouting "ride me cowboy" with your legs wrapped around your assistant's waist is considered sexual harrassment?

THe male assistant didn't seem to mind, but his fiance did But the boss, before she was our boss liked the guy before he was the assistant, but she was SOBER and did it. I can't imagine if she was drunk what she would do.

When I was in my mid 20's, I worked in a bank in an administrative position. We had a very large project involving bank regulators, etc., and I was right in the thick of it. At our office Christmas party, another couple was saying their good-nights to the bank management just as we were, and my co-worker, who had a little too much to drink, said to my boss in a loud voice, "Considering how hard she worked for you on that, you need to give her a big RAISE!" and left. I was speechless. The next day I went into his office and told him her statement did not reflect anything I had ever said, and he laughed and told me he knew she had had a few. My co-worker had actually already been in to his office and apologized.

If I go to an office Christmas party, I rarely stay very long. Invariably, someone has too much to drink and makes an a$$ of himself or herself, and I can live without seeing that.

It's a shame about your being under the weather that night. Not only will you not be able to go, but you husband will probably have to leave early, after making a respectfully long appearance of course.

You do realize that your husband's boss can read each and every email you send and criticizing what the boss does can cost him his job, right? A lot of companies have gone away from open bars, first because they are EXTREMELY expensive and second, many states have enacted social host liquor laws which would hold them responsible for anyone they provided alcohol for if they hurt or killed themselves or anyone else-which would put a small company out of business, thus, your DH losing his job. Is it worth the $20 you might spend on a drink for that? There is also no law that you HAVE to drink at the party in the first place.
