I know a family that is staying in a cabin right now. They are not enjoying their stay. They said there is nothing to do because everything closes early. They have been there since Saturday and haven't even gotten their mugs because the store is closed before they get back from the parks. Are they missing something or does everything shut down by 9? Said they like to eat/swim after the parks but can't. They are talking about asking to move to a different resort but there are five of them so that cuts down options.

I have wanted to stay in a cabin the years but I'm rethinking it now.

WantToGoNow,

Not sure what your friends expect. :confused3

The Meadow Pool is open tonight until 11pm. All the resort pools have posted hours. Some are fenced and gated. Swim after that hour at your own risk because Security may ask you to leave. There was a drowning last year at one of the resort pools when a family was swimming after the lifeguards had left.

Trails End is open tonight till 930pm. That's a full buffet.

Trails End takeout is usually open till 930pm on weeknights and 10pm on weekends. It has the mug refill stations also.

Crockett's Tavern is open tonight till 10pm which has a very limited food menu.

Staying in the cabin means you have the benefit of a full kitchen. If someone is hungry, shouldn't be hard to heat something up if they were able bodied enough to get a few groceries, snacks, and the like.

Domino's and many other companies deliver to the Fort.

They can move to another resort but I'm not sure how different their experience would be short of some overpriced room service. Even if they're on the Dining Plan, not sure how many other resorts will seat or serve new food service customers much past 10pm.

Not fussing at you, of course, since you're just the messenger. It's their expectations that don't resonate.

It sounds like they may have selected the cabins without understanding what there were (and weren't).

They are cabins within a campground. They aren't cabins at a resort hotel. I know this sounds obvious, but there are subtle things I would expect being different.

Having stayed at campgrounds and resorts, I don't expect late hour activities or things being open at a campground the way I do at a full service resort. When we wanted to do things after the parks we'd swing by the Contemporary or one of the other resorts and hit their bars and restaurants. Be careful staying too late. The boats/buses and monorails stop running and a cab is the only way back to the Fort. Don't ask how I know.

I'm sorry they aren't enjoying their stay. The Fort is best enjoyed during a non-park day. Many even stay at the Fort and never enter a park. Perhaps they may have a better time after the parks if they did move to a resort/hotel.

Thanks, they were moved to POR which is where they have stayed every trip. The only reason they didn't go there to start with is because free dining wasn't available. By the looks of it, they are a rope drop to closing type of family which is what we usually do as well. I know I wouldn't want to start cooking at 10 at night. I know last October my daughters and I had dinner at the AoA food court one "night" right at midnight - build your own pasta with chicken. We were at the pool several nights very late as well - after we closed down the parks. Looks like there will be no camping for me at least until my kids are grown anyway.
