A few questions:

1) How does that work out? Do they empty the park and then let resort guests re-enter?

2) Of all the sites I found with park hours posted, not said exactly what the extra hours were. Does anyone know where I can find out the exact park hours for May 14-20? When a site lists hours and then says that is an emh day, do the times listed include the extra hours? I just couldn't tell.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

As for the first question, no they do not empty the parks. You must show your room key to get a wristband for EMH. During EMH: no wristband, no rides!

2) Go back to the Trip Planning Forums page, then click on Park Hours at the top of that page. Click on May, then click on Extra Magic Hours.

Hi!
Go to www.disney.com, navigate through to WDW and the "Calendar," and get the official hours straight from the mouse's mouth!

What they do is issue wristbands, starting late afternoon on the day in question. If you are already in the park that day, you can stop at any of a number of stations and get your wristband. If you enter near the time of the extended hours, you'll get your wristband then. CMs go through the park "herding" people to the gates (so to speak) and will throughout the evening check people for wristbands. You have to show your wristband to get on any rides, etc.

There are some people who do their best to evade the CMs and stay in the park -- they certainly can't get on rides and we did see numbers of people in various locations being told to leave because they were still in the park and didn't have wristbands.

On the site, it's says up to three hours after the park closing.
Not sure if they all follow the same rule but that's what it says!!

We love late nighters... We are night owls :-) And not as hot too :-) !! WOOHOO

The website has always said "up to three hours" but it is ALWAYS three hours, no matter which park or which time of year!

Ok- I'm trying to wrap my brain around this, so be patient.
If, on the calendar, it say the hours on 5/18 in MK are from 9:00am-10:00pm, then it also says that there are EMH in the evening, the park is really open to 1:00am for resort geusts? The reason I'm having trouble with this is that it seems that every day that has EMH noted, the park hours listed are slightly different than on the other days, i.e. open until 10:00 instead of 9:00. I could not tell if that was the extra magic hour or if the reg park hours were just 1 hour later that day. So the caledars only list reg park hours- is that correct? Then it tells you there are EMH, but not what those hours are- is that correct? Once again- thanks for any help.

Yes, the park hours listed are the "regular' park hours.

Therefore, if a park is open from 9:AM to 10:PM, it will open at 8 to WDW resort guests if it is an EMH morning, and it will close at 1:AM if it is an EMH evening.

The calendar does tell you if the EMH are morning or evening. If you are on the WDW website, click on "Extra Magic Hours" on the date (any date) and it will take you to a page that lists the dates by park for morning and evening hours. If you are looking here on the DIS, it will also tell you when you click on Extra Magic Hours.

It's okay - it can be confusing trying to figure this out. The hours listed are the regular hours - they will vary by day and time of year. If the park has morning emh the park will open 1 hour earlier than listed for resort guests. If the park has evening emh the park will stay open 3 hours (typically - they say "up to" just as a precaution) later for resort guests. So yes if the regular hours are until 10pm MK will be open till 1am. So take a nap in the afternoon (if you need to) and enjoy the late hours.

Ok- I think I've got it. Thanks for all the help. I'm a night person, so that is great news. I did come up with 2 new questions though....

1) Are the fireworks still at reg time if park is open late?

2) Do you need to be in the park before Evening hours start or can you come during them? Will they let me in to MK at midnight when they close at 1?

The fireworks times are listed on the WDW calendar.
Those times are accurate, EMH or not.

Here's how EMH works for all parks.

Look up the POSTED open and close times for any day, any park.
Only WDW resort guests staying on-property will be allowed EHM privileges and it COSTS NOTHING EXTRA to attend the EMHs.
There are slightly different situations for MORNING and EVENING EMH's.

-------MORNING EMH FACTS--------------------------------------
If it is a MORNING EMH, then WDW resort guests staying on-property will be allowed entry to THAT park on THAT day starting ONE HOUR before the posted opening time.
At least ONE person in your party should have a room key-card with them (sometimes EACH person needs to show one) to verify your current hotel status and gain entry.
So, only WDW resort guests will be ALLOWED INTO the park.
Once inside, only selected attractions will be open.
See the official WDW website for the latest attractions that will be open during EMH.

-------EVENING EMH FACTS--------------------------------------
If it is a EVENING EMH, then WDW resort guests staying on-property will be allowed to stay and ride attractions at THAT park on THAT day for THREE HOURS after the posted closing time.
You do NOT have to be in the park BEFORE scheduled closing time.
You CAN enter the park at any time during EMH and still get a wrist-band.
You can leave and re-enter the park at will (just like any normal time).

(So, YES, if MK is sched. to close at midnight, the EMH will run til 3AM! Yep, that's 3 in the morning. No, its not a mistake, that would be 3 full hours after the posted time. 3AM for a posted 12mid close-time. 3AM, yes sir!)

EACH guest (except for very small children) will need to show a room key-card to a CM at special "EMH kiosks" set up in various locations throughout the park, and a wristband will be snapped on by the CM to each adult and child. Children older the 3 will be issued a room key when you check in if they are listed on your ressie. If they are not listed you will have problems if they don't get issued a room key.Children over 3 will be issued a room key when you check in. Make SURE the check-in desk issues each one a room-card.
The ride CMs will check these at each attraction before allowing guests to enter the queue.
So, even though non-resort guests may still be INSIDE the park, only those with wrist-bands will be allowed to ride any open EMH attractions.
See the official WDW website for the latest attractions that will be open during EMH.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
You can enter the parks for EMH EVENINGS anytime... during "regular" hours, or even during the actual extended EMH hours.
This 1-hour morning EMH and 3-hour evening EMH rule applies at all 4 parks. Enjoy!

We were in WDW Easter Week and took advantage of EMH twice. On Easter Sunday the normal closing hour was 12 midnight - the park was open till 3:00 am and let me tell you - it was so worth it. We had been in MGM earlier that day and did not get to the MK until 11:00 pm - we got the wrist bands when we entered the park. We rode so many rides between 11:00pm and 3:00am I could not believe it. We must have rode Splash Mountain 3 or 4 time without even having to get off. Of course the next morning we slept in and enjoyed the pool for a bit but went to AK around 1:00 pm and since it was EMH that night for that park we got to do everything we wanted there also. The park was open till 8:00 pm so we were there till 11:00pm. We missed out on the Fastpass for Everest during regular hours but they reset the fastpass machine and were able to get them for that evening. We walked right on and was finished with the ride within 5 to 7 minutes. Then my boyfriends son (17 years old) rode it again in the single line.

I would highly recommend using EMH and trying to plan your days around them - although I don't think we could have stayed up until 3:00 am every night it was worth it.

Actually, it was 2 questions at a time smart a** :stir: lol. Thank you for the info- I get the whole idea now. I only asked the questions seperately because that was how they came to me. I suppose I posted impulsively rather than carefully thinking through my question. I'll try to reform my foolish ways.
