Evening Extra Magic Hour! (VERY LONG POST)

We will be there, too! We arrive on the 9th. This will be a real bonus for us. I agree with the poster who said that there is something magical about the parks at night. We have PS's already booked, too. But like the previous poster said, we can work around this development.

I bet they'll continue this on thru summer.

Boy, do I hope you're right! We arrive on the 23rd. We'd love to see this, especially since DH is golfing every morning except one (and that morning's reserved for Richard Petty) and yet he was hoping to get to AK. I see AK is open late one day, so this would be great!

Wow! That is different. I like the late nights - too bad they don't run a Spectro a few more times for those of us staying late!

(Hey BrerMama! We will be at the POR at the same time! We're checking in 6/03 & then onto the CR on 6/7. Maybe we'll run into you at the pool or on the bus! Look for these cute kids (see below) but no DH! He's not coming this time! )

We'd be happy to continue the test when we're there in June :teeth: ! Sounds like a great idea to be able to be in the parks more when it's cooler. My only request would be to either add an additional MK night or change it from Wednesday - that's the only night we won't be there :( !

What a wonderfull idea, I would say this is a millions times better then early entry in the morning. Vacationing to me means sleeping in.I hope Disney sticks with this idea its the best one they have had in a long time.

I will be there and I'm thrilled! :smooth:

Do we know how much extra time we are getting in the evening? Is it more than one hour?

3 additional hours in the evening.

DH here. DW already chimed in on this one, but I have to add my $0.02

DW and I work extremely hard all year and save up our money for our once a year Disney trip. This trip is a culmination of a year's worth of hard work and is very well deserved. This year because of work and school schedules, every day on vacation represents two months of work and taking 3 credit hours of classes for me. In addition to the work vested in my vacation, there is the extra money vested into a fairly expensive trip to WDW. Needless to say, I have a very large interest in getting the most out of my WDW vacation.

As anyone has read the unofficial guide knows, planning is EVERYTHING when it comes to maximizing the value of a WDW vacation. A proper plan can save HOURS a day in trying to accomplish everything that you want to accomplish. In making your plan, the Unofficial Guide points out that at the MK alone, there are 51,090,942,171,709,440,000 different combinations in visiting just 21 rides! When you have 5 days, 4 parks , EMH, crowds, PS and rides to take into account the permutations for planning a WDW vacation are endless.

It is all of this that has led DW and I to spend at least 20 hours of our time planning out our trip in order to make sure we could see all that we want to see in the most efficient way possible. We don't plan our trips down to the second because we know that things can change. But we do plan all of our meals, any special things we want to do and which parks we are going to be at at which time. This plan is by no means excessive as it all fits onto one printed page that we can carry around with us on our trip.
Some may think this is crazy, but people that plan their trips this way can understand the overwhelming sense of satisfaction that comes with knowing that your trip is planned out to the best of your ability.

I think it is wrong of Disney to spring this on anyone going in May less than 30 days before their trip. It's actually even less than that because they have not posted official hours for the evening EMH and have not even communicated when those hours will be available (I spoke to a CM this morning who quoted me the info at the beginning of this thread). While I agree that the actual evening EMH might end up being really cool, this is definitely not the best way to go about testing it.

P.S. I feel sorry for the people that don't have a Saturday scheduled into their trip. Now they have either have to pick between their one chance to see Spectro and an EMH evening at MGM or waste an hour travelling back and forth between the parks.

Jkanownik,

I agree wholeheartedly with what you are saying. I too think that EMH in the evenings would be a really cool thing, but I think it inconsiderate of disney to pull this out at the last minute.

I realize that some people think that it is obsessive to plan, but I think that a trip as expensive as going to WDW, a little planning is in order. Not to mention planning is half the fun for me;)

Although I'm not going until July, I now have to rethink my plans because it is a real possibility that they may continue this new EMH. Luckily I still have time to try and get alternate PS's until I find out what EMH plan they will be working with.

Ultimately I know that no matter which EMH schedule they have we will have a good time. Being with family, being at WDW and being on vacation, it just can't get much better than that:teeth:

For those that are gonna be there in May, I'll be waiting to here the reports.

zippehsmom:D

We'll also be there for part of the testing period and I'm excited to see how it works. I wonder if there will be any limit to the amount of people given wristbands or will they allow all on-site guests to get one? I too have made a few PS's that need to be changed but overall I think that it's a great idea.

Aloha! :earsgirl:

I am not thrilled about this 'cause I won't get to stay at night.

Disney has to tread a fine line between rewarding onsite guests and offending offsite guests.

We'll be visiting at the time of the test. Early entry I don't mind. Being shooed out for late e nights doesn't sound too awful. But losing more than an hour of evening would make me less likely to go to Disney again. First charge us ~ 280 for the day at MK and then tell us we have to leave early?

We will be taking afternoon breaks for a toddler and for Grandparents so we want some evening time.
If the schedule stands as posted we will switch to Magic Kingdom on Tuesday and Islands of Adventure on Wednesday assuming that people will go to Magic Kingdom with the extended evening. That will give us an extra hour at Mk on Tuesday and we'll get to see Spectromagic!

I don't mind others having FOTL at Universal because their 5 day pass is so cheap. We may even buy BOGO annual passes.

Does anyone think that they will extend this beyond the 22nd if it goes over well? We arrive on 5-21 and are there unitl 5-31 and I don't know if I should plan on this schedule or the old one?

I'm excited about this.:hyper:

I hope the test goes well and it's around when we return this Christmas.

This plan has something for everyone. It doesn't matter is you like to sleep in on vacation or get an early start.

I'd love to Animal Kingdom at night.:bounce: :Pinkbounc

:wave2: Hi neighbor! I already PM'ed Colleen and I am feeling your pain! As I let her know, we have had to save for two years just to be able to do 5 day PH's, so we are trying to make the best use of our time. Barring something unexpected, we will not return for a long time. This is my husband's first trip, and my first in 10 years. We are celebrating our anniversary and want to dine at some of the more popular spots. I do not consider myself inflexible or my planning obsessive. I do not have something planned for every meal or each step of the journey planned out. I am simply trying to make sense out of which park I should be in to maximize my 5 days in the parks. For those who have the opportunity to go more frequently, this may not be such a big deal to miss out on something here or there, knowing that they will be back in the fall or next spring. But for those of us who won't be back for several years, missing out on extra magic night at the MK might make all the difference. It just would have been a lot easier on everyone if they would have announced this at the same time the 90 day window opened for PS's. Easier on us and easier on the CM's, who are now going to have to deal with a lot of cancellations and rebookings.

Does anyone know if they are changing their scheduled park hours to accomodate this? I hope not.

Beth

I don't think they'll change the park hours. My thought was that they keep the normal park hours. Off-site guests would then leave the park at the normal hours. On-site guests who have been informed of the extra hours are then issued wristbands.

So I think it's a plus for on-site guests. I think it's a pretty good marketing ploy too by Disney. When off-site guests see that they can get 3 more hours after park closing, I'm sure some of them will think to book on-site for their next visit.

I think it's good that they're taking some time to test it first. That way they can gauge how willing people are to the idea and what if any tweaks can be done to it.

I was able to start making PS yesterday for my July trip. I made PS for CP on a Friday morning at 8:05. Now, maybe Friday is going to be EMH (I don't want to be there :D ). I called and made another CP for 8:05 on Thursday. I"m covered either way. I hate to have 2 PSs, but it's not my fault they are possibly changing the schedule. As soon as some offical word comes out. I will cancel the one I don't want. The only PS that would truly be hard to replace are the Princess ones. I think the tradeoff is a good one with the extra night hours.:D Overall, it's a very good thing.::yes::

If this is true, then on the night of May 11th, the Studios are going to be open until 11:00 pm or midnight. Can that be right?

It's about time they did something for us Night Owls and regular Disney guests. I think it's great!!!

WDW To Test Variations of Extra Magic Hours in May!

WDW will be testing out new variations to the Extra Magic Hour Program in May by having both morning and evening hours for resort guests.

From May 9 -22 a test period will be held to allow resort guests to have the opportunity to not only visit the theme parks one hour early, but also as many as 3 hours in the evening after the park's stated closing time. Extra Magic Hours will be offered 8 times during the course of a week.

Any WDW resort guest, including those staying athe the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, as well as the Lake Buena Vista Hilton may take advantage of this special program. Shades of Green guests may participate in the morning program only.

Attraction offerings may differ depending on anticipated attendance levels.

If you plan to use a Single-day Ticket media and want to take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours (morning or evening), your ticket will need to be used at the park offering the Extra Magic Hours.

FASTPASS may be available during evening Extra Magic Hours.

This program does not replace E-Ride nights, which are expected to begin again during the summer.

we'll be there for the test...:Pinkbounc :bounce:

I hope they'll fully implement this in December... or at least E-ride Nights.
