We're going to WDW in 12 days. We know how to do the parks and we're going with a rookie family (Mom, her DD age 9 and DS age 8). They are perfectly content to let me plan the itinerary.

Our AK day happens to be an AK EMH night too. We're not too worried about the heat (that's part of why we love Florida), but I know AK can be unbearably hot sometimes. I was thinking of getting there before opening (around 8:45am) and doing as much as we can before 12:30-1pm...then coming back around 5:30 and staying for the first hour of the EMH (until around 8...afterwards part of our party wants to go shopping at DTD). I haven't heard the best reviews of evening EMHours, but, I'm wondering, if it might be better at this time of year because ALL the other parks are open late (spreading the crowd). So, it's not like AK will be the only park going past 7pm..and normally AK thins out considerably after 4pm.

What do you think? Do you think EMH night might be ok? OR..Am I better off plugging through the heat and then leaving for the day?

Thanks...
Jess

We'll be in WDW at that time, too! I would think your plan for AK is just fine. I don't think anyone really knows what is going on with crowds, exactly, but I think just as many if not more people may be at EMH (a.m.) at MGM, EPCOT or MK that morning. The night before is MK EMH, and hopefully most people will be sleeping in on Tuesday morning! (I'm planning on going to MK in the a.m., btw)

Have fun!

I don't know. Your plan sounds good- but we're leaving tonight and tomorrow is our first day and I had planned to do evening EMH at Ak tomorrow. I just looked at what will be open at AK for evening EMH and it's not much!
Discovery Island Trails
It's Tough to be a Bug
Kilimanjaro Safaris
Pangani Forest Exploration Trail

That's it... seems to me it's not a whole lot to be open during EMH... so what is open might be very crowded and no dinosaur! :(

So I'm not even sure if we'll bother with evening EMH there tomorrow.

Just thought I'd let you know- since you plan on leaving and returning later. You might be disappointed if you passed up riding things only to return for EMH and not much is running at that time.

Thanks for the resposes.

Just a note...according to Disney's website Eveninvg EMH at Animal Kingdom has the following attractions open:

It's Tough to be a Bug!®, Kilimanjaro Safaris, The Boneyard®, DINOSAUR, Festival of the Lion King, Kali River Rapids, Primeval Whirl®, Tarzan™ Rocks!, TriceraTop Spin

According to waltdisneyworld.com, there is a bit more open in the evening EMH:

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/calendar/extraMagicHour?id=CalendarExtraMagicHoursPage

* ITTBAB
* Kilimanjaro Safaris
* Boneyard
* Dinosaur
* Festival of the Lion King
* Kali River Rapids
* Primeval Whirl
* Tarzan Rocks!
* Triceratop Spin

That's most of the park (minus the trails). The morning EMH is the one that, IMO, doesn't have too much open.

Should be a great use of time!

Wow- what a difference! I was looking at allearsnet- that's where I got the info above. Thanks for correcting me- that makes a big difference! Maybe I was looking at the list for morning EMH. LOL

We were in WDW in late April of this year and had to deal with all of the New England states on spring break, so it was busy. We did all the EMH evenings for the various parks and I would have to say the best one was at AK. There were not a lot of people that stayed for the EMH and we could walk on all the rides. When we did EMH at MK and MGM there was still 50 - 60 minute waits for the big rides. So I would definitely take advantage of EMK at AK.

I'm trying to decide what to do about AK myself. Last time we went in August 2003 and my daughter (then 7) hated the place. Wanted to leave the second we walked in. Saw Lion King, Pocohantas, and did the Kali River Rapids. Had a fast pass for the Safari but even I was getting too hot so we left before we could use it. We will be returning in August. I would really like to give AK another try. Now I am trying to plan my PS (ADR?) and Tuesday night which is a scheduled PM EMH is open. I'm trying to decide do I plan a late dinner at a resort and go to EMH or do we try to do AK the next morning. We will have hopper passes. What do you all think would be the best idea. Evening EMH at AK or go early the day after EMH? Thank you!!

you guys have helped me immensely. We're going in just under 3 weeks and I've been wondering if EMH is worth it or not. Sounds like it is - at AK anyway so we're definitely going to try it.

Can't hurt.

If all is correct from what I've read...one a night that AK is scheduled to close at 7pm...then EMH would be 7-10pm. correct? Are all of the rides/attractions listed as being open for EMH - open that whole time or do some of them tend to close earlier than 10pm?
