The following TR will be a herculean effort. Well maybe not for most, but for me certainly. The TR marks TR number two in progress. Yes, Im writing two trip reports at one time. I can tell..you are impressed by my literary skills, my ninja like agility to seamlessly bounce between two tales of adventure, excitement and magic. Well before you realize just how misplaced your awe is, lets get the ball rolling!
Our intrepid adventurers are my DD11 and I. This was a last minute Thanksgiving adventure. Initially, thanks to Groupon, we were to stay off-site during the first part of Thanksgiving week. However, I decided I needed to work those days and at the last minute switched the trip to be Thanksgiving through the following Sunday. We also changed our accommodations to stay on property at our favorite value resort Pop Century. So the Groupon place remains for another day. Perhaps my b-day. Hmm ..
Anyway, we begin our journey on Thanksgiving Day. After a lovely feast (and by feast I mean four turkeys and two hams for 24 people- I wont even bother to go in to the sides and desserts) we head off for the World around 2:30.
It was very pleasant, albeit seemingly extra long, drive. We arrive at Pop around 10:00 and check in. As we are heading back to the car we run in to one of DDs classmates and her mother sitting on a bench waiting on the rest of the family. They had been there for a week at that point and were leaving in a couple of days. Thanks to state furlough days, DDs school has the entire week of Thanksgiving off. She knew several people that were going to WDW for the week. Fancy meeting one in the lobby of Pop Century. It is a Small World afterall.
Our last, oh half a dozen trips Id say, we have stayed at Pop Century for at least a night of the trip. We really like the place. Most of our stays weve been assigned to the 50s building, and the majority of the time weve been assigned to building two and have a room on the fourth floor. Weve even been assigned the same room twice. So no shocker when we get the 50s this time, no shocker we get the fourth floor, but this time we are put in building three, and that is new. Woot! The beginning of new Disney experiences for us.
This is our first trip over Thanksgiving, and to experience much of the Disney Christmas goodies. Weve been in early November and have seen the Magic Kingdom decorated, but the castle lighting had not started at that point. I have seen the castle all shimmery and lovely and toured the Grand Floridian while attending a seminar in the area in December. Beyond that though, weve not experienced Disney all Christmased up. And boy, do I have plans to squeeze in as much of it as possible. My goal for this trip is to see the Osborne lights, the Epcot storytellers, the castle lighting, Illuminations- the Christmas edition, resort touring, the AK welcome show since they are about to do away with it and the Candlelight Processional. That last one, Im not to sure about simply because our only day to do it we have dinner reservations at Beach Club that may make it impossible to join the line in time. Well see what happens though.
We go move the car, and unload as it will be an early morning tomorrow. We typically travel at lower crowd times, so there is not sleeping in whatsoever on this trip. RD is a must every day!
