EVC and park security?

On our last trip in November I rented an ECV from outside the park and when we got to security my DH took the park bag and went through the line and I just zipped on through the no bag area.
Since that trip they have installed the extra screening and I am just wondering how the security works with the ECV? I can get it out of it and walk so that is not an issue I just liked being about to go on ahead out of the crowded area and wait for my DH. thanks.

If you can walk they may ask you to go thoug the meter detectors that is really the only thing that has changed it added

They do approach ECVs randomly and ask if you can walk a few steps to go through the metal detector. They will do whatever they need to help you. The only thing is you need to be able to walk through the actual detector unassisted. They can move the scooter from one side to the other for you if you need them to.
Good luck & enjoy your trip!

I rented an ECV for our trip in July. I can walk but have severe arthritis in both knees which is painful. At the time I was having problem with one knee "popping" and giving way too so I was walking less than usual.

First time I went through security I walked through the metal detector and then got back into the ECV. The second time I was pulled the officer insisted I remain seated and he wanded me - which was a quick pass of the wand above me and was as quick as walking through the detector.

Thanks everyone. I am not worried at all about having to get out of the scooter and walk through I just didn't know how they would do it with the scooter. If I'm not in it and am walking through then how is the scooter getting through the area? I guess you just get out and step through then get back on the scooter and go? Also I just always liked being able to go on ahead of the crowd and enter the no bag area and get out of peoples way etc. Our last trip was my 1st time with a scooter and I was also very self conscious being it I think.
Thanks for your replies.

Just wondering, if you need a cane to walk, will they supply you with a wooden one like TSA does? My cane is metal, so they make me switch with one they have, no metal.

The screening isn't like TSA. That is why I am a bit surprised they allow you to bypass bag check with a scooter unless it is visible that your basket is COMPLETELY empty and there aren't any other places to store items on the scooter. I am kinda surprised that security doesn't send you through the bag line...the "no bag" line was really designed for people that have NOTHING (other than what is in their pockets).
Going through bag check, security checks my basket as well as the storage "pouch" on the back of my seat. And specifically ask if there are other storage places on my scooter. Bag check is where they have the opportunity to "examine" your equipment, that is why I am surprised that the security working bag check allow you to pass through that way...jmho.
The metal detectors are to check "your person" for potentially harmful objects.
And yes, like you said....you will just get off and walk through then get back on. It is super simple. I have never had security tell me I can't get off (and "wand me" instead).

It was very easy to go through the bag check line with the scooter - although as you know it is slower than going in the no bag line! I end up being the sherpa now since everyone seems to put their bags on the ECV - lol!

If they ask you to do the metal detector that is also very quick and easy with the scooter. Either you just get up and walk through then get back in the scooter and motor away or they will wand you (apparently - I wasn't going to argue with the guy when he insisted I stay seated and he'd wand me - lol!). The wanding was equally as fast as going through the scanner. I never felt like I was in anyone's way or holding up a line or what not. There's a lot of extra space around the scanner area so people can easily go around. I suppose it is always possible you'll go through the no bag line and still get pulled for the metal detector. They are definitely stopping more people for that extra step.

I'm not speaking from first hand experience as I rarely use a cane, but my suspicions tell me that they don't have wooden canes there as they specifically ask if I could walk UNASSISTED. I am thinking in that situation, they would just use the wand instead.

I have been a number of time when every one goes thought the meter detectors whether they go thought the no bag line or not. So going thought the no bag line you still may get selected

Well when I was their in Nov for 8 days I had no problems with the no bags line because I had literally nothing on me all of our stuff was in the backpack my DH took through the bag check. I would simply roll up to the security guys and they would give me a nod or wave to come on through and they did seem to glance at my chair as I went by I assumed checking for any bags or items I may have had but they never stopped me or even spoke really.
I realize all that is different now because since that trip they have changed the security situation at the parks. But I'm glad to hear that its easy to deal with.
