Euro Magic Med 7 Night Cruise Aug 20 - 27 2011

Welcome welcome welcome!! :cool1:

I'm Joa B on the Facebook group but Bats everywhere else! Travelling with my partner Mick, my mum, 2 sisters, bro in law, niece and nephew plus .....

about 80 other people from here and on the Dibb (UK version of Disboards).

Hope to see you in the Promenade Lounge at 3pm :thumbsup2

Jojos ......
If you're asking to join the FaceBook group, could you please let us know your real name (or initials will do) ... it's a closed group so we only have 20th Aug cruisers in it .. rather exclusive!! :thumbsup2

Hi There, Just browsing and stumbled into this! I can't believe it's been here this whole time. Are you all really going to be on the same cruise leaving Barcelona on the 20th!?

I've been down the cruisecritic.. or cruisemeets route and to my surprise.. nothing. For a late night internet search, I'm surprised!!

Super excited to go we leave in 10 days!!

Btw-- if this is real (please pinch me).. will anyone as last minute as myself have any idea about excursions!? I'm lost and haven't booked a thing. The disney site gives some information, but no details as to how long we will be at sites (esp Rome).

Hello fellow cruiser and welcome aboard :thumbsup2

Yes we are all real and eagerly awaiting our Med cruise on the 20th August :cool1:

Better to find us now than after the cruise, still plenty of time to find out about trips etc :dance3:

We have a Facebook group too which appears to be the most popular place for us to hang out: Euro Mouseketeers Facebook page

I'm sure Manny will be along very soon to give you an official Dis welcome :thumbsup2

Welcome!

Still 11 days and our cruise set sail :cool1:

Hello,

Welcome to the cruise!

Hello and welcome to our meet. Are you coming over to the DIBB, we are on part 4 of our meet thread, soon to start on part 5, loads of info on our facebook page too, which the Mel, Vron and co have done. Manny must still be packing shoes for his girls. I'm sure someone said there were over 90 of us on our meet. Its in the promanade lounge 20/08/11 at 3pm, bring the kids too if you have any.

Heather (to confuse matters known as Scarecrow on the DIBB)

Welcome new people:dance3:
As Mel said...still time to 'get with the programme':)
The DIBB site is much busier....lots of Brits and other Europeans cruising...plus a few 'declared' Americans :lovestruc...and as Mel said, we have a facebook page if that floats your boat ( or cruise ship:laughing:)

Manny? Shouldnt he be trying to cram more shoes into his suitcases?

Welcome. Looking forward to meeting you very very soon. Who is travelling with you? My husband and 3 boys are travelling with me.

Welcome welcome welcome!! :cool1:

My gosh what a warm welcome for the jojo119 Family :cool1:

:welcome: pixiedust: :welcome:

I'm so glad you found Us here and it's never too late until the ship sails.

As many of the Euro Mouseketters have kindly mentioned we have lot's of things going on and it would be nice for you to join Us.

As you asked for it Here's a Pinch pixiedust: but of Pixie Dust of course to make your cruise much better.

Please don't think twice to ask anything, there are a few DCL experienced peeps here that will very kindly answer most if not all of your questions.

Also as mentioned, there's the Facebook page which has been going hyper :hyper:the closer we get to the cruise. Do note it's a private page, so we need to match your Diss name with your Facebook name to be approved.

Once again Welcome to this cruise and Welcome to the Diss jojo119 Family. You are officially Euro Mouseketeers.

:welcome: pixiedust: :welcome:

I'm so excited that this is REAL!! Thank you so much for the comments. I'm going to add to facebook for sure. I go by Josephine and it'll be my son and myself on the Disney cruise (a happy family of 2) reigning in from CA.

I'm sure I'll be going through the past posts and asking a ton of questions. So for, all I've gotten are door magnets and a pirate costume. Still no excursions yet so I am so glad everyone is willing to offer their advice!

It's so great and very exiting jojos119, I have approved of your request at our Facebook page.

Beware of the fun, and ask away :lmao:

:mic: A recent situation has turned Up regarding an International Airports Strike in Spain. There are several dates mentioned, dates that are too close to our cruise.

So please do all the reserch necesary in order to minimize it's effects on your vacation.

At this time I'm only mentioning it but not giving specific b/c I don't have 100% facts of what is going on. :mic:

Not too sure where to post, but I'm hoping someone can give me some advice about the excursions. I know from asking some other Disney cruisers here who have done Florida departures mentioned not to do excursions every port of call because the kids will be exhausted. But, I'm really looking to do the Rome excursion and Pisa.

With the Rome excurion, is it better to do Rome on your Own (but I'm unsure how I would get from the Coliseum to the Vatican City centre). Or, The Taste of Rome tour? Do you actually get to go inside the Coliseum. The details really aren't details (or perhaps I'm just trying to be too detailed for my own good).

I've looked into Private tours, but they cost far too much, are they worth the price?

With Pisa, I'm really just interested in seeing a part of Florence and to climb the Pisa tower, but I really can't find anything on Disney. Is Easy Pisa enough time to climb the tower, I didn't see it in the description.

On another note, I have a spa day (well at least I think I reserved it) for Thursday. Does anyone know what time the Kids Club opens?

Lastly, how are birthday's celebrated on the cruise (This is our very 1st time)?

I really appreciate the advice and the warm welcomes! I hope I can find Parrot Cay, because at that point, I'm sure I'll need a drink or two just to keep sane!! (It is adult only, right?)

NB: What are fish extenders? (I read it on the FB page)

Hi Josephine, I see you got the "Time to Cruise hyper-feel" :cool1:

Our first meet will be at the Promenade Lounge at 3 pm on boarding day.

Now to help you with your questions:

Keep an eye on the timing considering your dinner time on the ship: First seating is at 6:30 pm and 2nd seating at 8:30 pm This will affect your return to the ship schedule and also the Movies/theater shows on the ship.

Port Adventures:

I must say you first need to clasify it by:

- What would I like to do ?
- What can I do ?
- What should I do ?

- What would I like to do: Go to the DCL web page (Port Adventures) and see what is being ofered there as a reference of possible activities. They have done quite a good reserch of great activities or at least the most important ones.

- What can I do ? Check out the prices they have there. DCL is about 2x more expensive but it is less complicated.

- What should I do ? Based on the two prior coments review you butget. My personal feeling of booking a private tour not Disney at this time is not the best option considering how close we are till sailing day; and lot's of them require cash payment.

This are my recomendations for you by Port and considering you are a first time Disney Cruiser:

Villefranche (Monte Carlo - Nice - Monaco): Go for a Half day tour. This port is very easy to do on your own and there are lots of people in our group that are doing it this way. Catch a train or a bus is not complicated.

La Specia: This is a long day excursion. Florence requires about 5 hours bus riding time (Round trip) and Pisa is about 4 hours (round trip) I recomend for you to pick one, not both due to too much time on a bus. Most of Us are going to Pisa. This port can also be done on your own specialy Pisa or with not so expensive excursion with Disney. To go on the tower you must get the tickets ahead of time on line, otherwise the line to buy them on site will consume your time.

Citivechia (Rome): This is your most important historic port of all. I recomend to pay for a guided tour with Disney or otherwise but with a guide. Beware of returning to the ship on time, they will leave you.

Naples: Go to Pompei and maybe Sorrento. You can do this as a half day tour, and get back to the ship to enjoy the Magic.

Thursday (Sea Day): Drop your kid at the Kids Club and go to enjoy your SPA. At 1:30 pm there's the Scouts meet. At 2:30 pm there's the Cocktail Meet at Parrot Cay (Deck 3), yes adults only.

Friday (Palma): This can also be a half day excursion and also a do it on your own. It's not complicated and by friday you will probably pick up frinds to tag along. Lots are just doing a day at the beach or staying on the ship.

Birthday celebrations are Magical, my doughter is turning 18 while on the ship on sunday. Put it on you reservation so everyone (Castmembers) know about it. Let your server know about it too. Is it your birthday or your childs ?

Fish Extenders is a Secret Santa kind of thing Disney stile. It's not an official Disney activity, but a tradition among Disney Cruisers. Outside of your stateroom door you will see a fish which it's used as a mail box, people hang a decoration with pockets on it so others can secretly leave treats, etc. We have one arranged but the list was closed as of June 1st.

We are doing the Monaco-Monte Carlo tour through Disney. Does anyone know if this tour actually goes into a church? Trying to dress accordingly for this one, thanks.

We are doing the Nice, Monaco and Monte Carlo (Lunch at Eze) tour with Disney and it mentions a visit to the Monaco Cathedral and this quote is in the:

Important Additional Information

"Guests—including children—wishing to enter the church must ensure that shoulders and knees remain covered. Guests can wear shorts that reach below the knee and tank tops, as long as they bring a sweater or scarf to wrap around their shoulders"

One Day to Go Day for us.

:cheer2:

Or a Wake, :cheer2:

Or tomorrow, :cheer2:

Or manana, :cheer2:

Yes, we fly tomorrow, our flight is at 7:00 pm local time and we arrive at Madrid at 9:00 am Madrid time. It's an 8 hour flight. :yay:

We'll probably arrive with a Jet Lag and I hope that my adults only technique works :lmao:

Thank you so much! This is invaluable information. I am on the first sitting for dinner, which I get is around 6:30. Also, I am celebrating my birthday there so as long as there's chocolate on board, I'm golden. I will look into the excursions and book the 2 through Disney.

Safe travels to Europe and see you all then on the first day!!

Hi Jojo

We are doing all of our trips on our own and I have a DS who is 12.

First stop, we are catching the train to Monaco, it suppose to be very easy to do on your own. When you come out of the station there is a bus that takes you to the centre of Monaco where you can catch a road train for 8 euros. The train is really cheap too, can't remember at the mo how much though. we plan to be back on the boat by around 2pm.

Le Spazia - we are going to Cinque Terre all being well. You can do this either on a boat but if takes around 1 and half hours or on the train.

The train goes to all 5 villages. I'm planning on going the 4th village first, as this is the prettiest and then catching the train back to village 2 and walking to village 1, its suppose to be an easy gentle walk, with cafes along the route and great views. Then catching the train back to La Spezia. As Mel has said there is Pisa, which again is easy on your own on the train. If you want to climb the tower you should book tickets on-line if you are doing DIY.

Rome - Again on our own, catching the train, and I have bought tickets to the Colosseum and having a tour including the underground bits. Then just take things as they come. Planning on leaving Rome between 4 and 4.30 to ensure I am back on that boat in plenty of time. (This is the one I am most worried about) Do a google of Ron in Rome for instructions on how to do this trip on your own.

Naples. - There is lots to do here. You can take the hydrofoil to Capri or Sorrento. Train to Pompeii or Sorrento. I think we are going by boat to Sorrento then catching the train to Pompeii or Herculuem. The the train back to the boat.

Majorca, again you can catch the local bus to the beach Palma Nova, do a HOHO bus or just walk around Palma. There is also a train to Soller that I quite fancy doing, but I may just walk around Palma and then back to the boat and have a rest.

Somewhere on here is a thread called trips on your own. I'll dig it out and post the links for you.

I just hope all my planning comes off. It sounds easy but whether it will be awaits to be seen.
Heather
