We will try pin trading for the first time this trip and I was wondering if there is an ettiquete to it? How do you approach CM's, is there something to avoid doing/saying? I would appreciate all info! Thanks

A great place to start is the DIS Collector's Board FAQ, located here

Disney also has their own site, located here . Lots of information there too.

And if you want to see a database of pins, you can always head over to

Pin Pics

That should get you started. If you have any other questions, just ask away!!!

When approaching a Cast Member I introduce myself and state that I would like to trade with you. I make it known which pin I would like while at the same making small talk with him or her and once the trade is complete I usually shake hands to seal the deal.

Some people put their wrist under the bottom of the lanyard to hold it away from their chest.

Tell the person up front if there are any pins you are wearing/ in your pin bag that are NOT for trade.

A great place to learn at the parks is at 1:00 in Exposition Hall at the front of Main Street. Scoop, the Main Street reporter does a fantastic primer.

We try to approach with a polite "May I look at your pins?". Cast members usually respond positively and display their pins for us. We also make sure that we thank them for sharing their pins with us if there is nothing we wish to trade for at that time or thank them for the trade if we do find something to trade for.

Hi!

We just got back from WDW and it was my first time to trade with CMs, or anyone else for that matter, in person. Cast members are SO wonderful to trade with. We found 40 different lanyard pins in a week. A WDW DAK CM showed me how to ask "May I see your pins please?" and to say "thank you very much" if there were no pins I was interested in. When trading I just told the CM which pin I wanted and which pin I was offering. They were just terrific!

I also had the wonderful experience of a CM taking a day to get the BIBITIBOBITBU license plate for me because we struck up a conversation and I said that I hadn't seen one all week. He told me to come back to the resort pin cart the next day...and there it was for me.

You will have so much fun. There are pins that are "turned around" and are "mystery pins". Think it gives the CMs some fun. One told me, when I asked, that it was a "mystery" pin..meaning I couldn't see it....and it was an Innertube Mickey. I almost started jumping up and down in the middle of the store.

So, have a great time. Don't worry...and hope you find the pins you want!
