ET Refurb?

E.T. Adventure is currently scheduled to be down for the first time in a very long time, from May 15th-June 3rd.

Anyone know if we are getting some new tech? Or is this just maintenance?

I'm with wookiebeck. In that short of time, I would think it would get a thorough cleaning, paint touch ups, etc. Hopefully a new speaker box for ET...havn't been able to understand most of the names for years

I'm absolutely gutted by this news. Just terrible timing I guess. My last trip to Universal was in '92. I know that a LOT has changed since then, and this attraction which I loved dearly and have such fond memories of was going to be the last remaining one that I would have been able to re-ride. I'm going with my girlfriend from 5/29 - 6/2. :-(
I'm actually really so sad to hear this, but I understand they have to do maintenance sometime, especially if it's been a long time. The only thing that can make up for this is the DIS 20th anniversary party that is going to cap off the last night of our vacation.

HILARIOUS! My middle child tried telling them his name was Copernicus, but when the TM asked him to spell it, with a knowing look on her face, he got embarrassed and gave his real name (which is a rather odd name anyway, surprised she didn't check him on that.) The next time we were in line, I heard him repeating how to spell Octavious all the way up to the TM

hey! hope you don't mind me jumping in here but i got some pics of E.T. under refurb from my trip today. the sign at the front says it's under preventative maintenance, and there's girders outside, so i'm guessing they're fixing up the infrastructure a bit? i'm a bit disappointed that i wasn't able to ride but hopefully i'll be able to come back when it's reopened!

I think that shortcut keys were put into the system at some point. Common names appear to be entered with one or two keys. They can also do a phonetic version just as easily, Jon/John.

Yes, I am sure they enter a phonetical spelling.

Also, if more than one person has the same name in your group, it is only said once.
