I do in other ways. I give to many charities. Just saying that I would also gladly contribute to a national program funded by tax dollars. Because charities are not coming close to meeting the needs of the many.

We already do contribute to a "national program" funded by tax dollars, you can write them a check at any time.

Nope - any additional taxes that I pay without additional legislation would go to programs that feed the billionaires, not the needy. This is a false narrative - that people who want to pay more taxes can do so and it will help the needy.

What we need is more compassion. What we will get is more greed.

I'd rather give to charities. I have little faith that tax dollars would be directed to the most needy. The latest "effort" does nothing to change my opinion..

I have no faith in any government, but capitalism is a failed experiment. It is time to try something new.

I'd recommend try going to work as something new. I have an aunt who has basically been on assistance for decades. She is among the last people I would give money to. I'd also recommend her trying work.

I don't go to work because it's just the greatest thing in the world. I go to work because I don't like being poor. I didn't go to school because it was the greatest in the world. I went to school because I don't like being poor.

I worked a $9 per hour job post-college during the housing bubble crash. Part of my job included the emptying of airplane lavs. It was not fun but it paid the bills while I got back on my feet.

I've asked this repeatedly and either gotten no answer or told that poverty isn't fatal. But when poverty leads to lack of housing, food, and healthcare, it is.

It's funny that so many people are now concerned about poverty & making sure people have healthcare. I hope they feel the same way, when this is over.

My mother always held a job (sometimes 2) and we lived well below the poverty line for most of my childhood. In one of the poorest cities in America.

Not every poor person refuses to work. Most poor people I know are some of the hardest working people I know.

Well, It's always concerned me because I've lived in poverty and clawed my way out. It's not something I want to go back to or see others fall victim to through no fault of their own. So if that was meant to be some sort of snarky comment implying that I'm only concerned now, it missed its mark.
