So my first essay for my writing class is coming up, and I cannot seem to think of a topic. It has to be a narrative detailed essay, 500-1000 words.

The general topic is ;; Something that has happened to you during your lifetime, that has changed your life.

My mind is just...blank. I can't think of anything! My life is pretty boring, and the big things that have happened I don't really want to write about. And I certainly couldn't get them down to 1,000 words.

Any ideas?

Well I guess the first thing to do is think of big events in your life that have had a huge impact on you. So since you finished school earlier than most of your peers, that could be something that changed your life.

Did you ever see a movie that changed how you think or maybe read a book?

Did you ever meet someone that changed how you think about life? Or go somewhere?

I think the hardest part would be shortening the length. It's hard to limit something that has changed your life.

Anyone close to you ever die? Are you comfortable talking about that?

A fight you had with someone that changed your perspective on something/someone?

Meeting a friend who changed your perspective?
Getting a Job? Did it chance you or mature you as a person?
Graduating High School early and going to college before your peers is a pretty big thing I'd say!
I know you were homeschooled so maybe the transition from public school to being home schooled? Or the transition from being home schooled to college?

d00d, you could write about how I impacted your life.
;) ;) ;)

Uh, has a death ever affected you so hard you changed your perspective on life? I didn't know him, but Heath Ledger's death changed my perspective on life a lot.

ETA - I think the whole thing about graduating and starting college early is a great topic! That is one area I'm definitely jealous of you, Jenny.

Books, movies, a song, meeting someone, a class in school, a club/team you were on, a major injury, something that happened to a friend and you got yourself involved in, discovering a phobia, one of your best friends moving away, new food allergy, a friend betraying your trust, when you broke a habit? Yeah I know those were al totally random, but could be shortened down. The limitation of the words would make it hard.

Thats so cool that you graduated early. I want to but since I'm just starting homeschool I think it would be hard to get a whole year ahead at this point. But I would say that the transition to/from homeschool is pretty huge.

Ughhh! Now I have too many ideas!

The hardest part about writing is taking all the crazy ideas in your head and put them down on paper in an organized, flowy way.

Thanks you guys. (:

i had to write narrative detail in english 1010. i wrote about my favorite place in the whole world, and my place wasn't necessarily spatial, as much as it was a time. it was when you wake up early in the morning and realize you can go back to sleep and everythign is thick and lucid.

for your topic, i'd probably write about a memorable holiday, getting my license, graduating, something like that.

That is a great time.

My biggest problem with writing, is I can't seem to look at life open enough to come up with ideas. I guess I'm not very creative.

If that made any sense.

i wrote probably 30-40 essays in my class. i can pull one out of the air now. I was also taking three other classes that required essay writing at the time.

Essays about myself I find are really easy. I've always been a fairly creative writer. I hate research papers though...I hate the structure and formality of them.

I would maybe write out as much as you can think of about a topic that you pick. Then read through it and cut some stuff that you don't need or isn't as important. I think it will be harder on you if you have to limit your words. You'll focus too much on how many words you've typed and not the content.
