ESPN the Weekend

My observations from the last 2 ESPN Weekends:

Not only is MGM not crazy, the rides and attractions were walk-ons for quite some time after rope drop. The ESPN events drew the crowds, and those not interested in ESPN stuff were probably scared away by the prospect of crowds. Speaking of rope drop, the first day of ESPN in 2006, a Fri., the crowd at the rope was less than 10 deep. It was the lowest turn out at a RD I've ever seen, in any park, ever.

All my experiences with this event took place on the first day, Friday, and the next two days might not have been the same. I haven't decided which parks we're going to hit on which days this time down, but ESPN Weekend will not affect my decision in any way. As for the other parks, this is Peak Season, but I'd call the crowd level 'Moderate'. Get to the parks early, use FastPass and you'll do fine.

I went to ESPN the Weekend about 2 years ago with the wife and we had a great time. Most of the people are there for the sport stars so the lines are pretty slim. We rode ToT, RnRC, and GMR all with 10 minute waits. Thats all we did besides the Beauty and the beast show b/c I had to go see Chad Johnson and Clinton portis and Jerry Rice

Thanks for the info. We will be there that weekend as well. I thought we would be able to bypass some of the ESPN stuff and hit the rides, but now Shaun Alexander has been added and that is a must do since we are from Seattle. Everyone going have a great time! :wizard:

I'm in the same boat...I thought we were going to be able to view ESPN the Weekend from afar now that Shaun is going to be there I know DH will want to see him. We remember him from his college days. We graduated from Bama so he's one of our guys too!! Since we've never been this time...how do we find out when he is going to be there?

What are the "official" events that take place during the weekend? Are there opportunities to meet the athletes and get autographs/pictures?
