Whats up with this?
What is the reasoning? I don't get it. I don't stay there but if I did my experience would be diminished. Esplain it to me Lucy.

Recreational Changes at Select Resorts:
Beginning March 2, 2014, watercraft rental from the marinas of Disney’s Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, Disney’s Old Key West Resort, and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort will be discontinued. Additionally, the operating hours for bike rentals at Port Orleans Resort - Riverside change to 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and noon-5 p.m at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

Probably just a reduction in labor and costs due to not enough profits.

And so do they now just take away everything that makes wow magical for profits? I think Walt would be furious! Also there is way too much construction going on in too many areas that look Uuuggly.

Cutbacks. Plain and simple. Entertainment in Epcot is being cut back. Recreation is being cut back. Even a talking trash can can't catch a break. But don't worry. WDW is just as good as it's always been. :cool2:
For me, the downward trend began when Sonny Eclipse replaced Michael Iceberg.

Man I just saw Itheme video of the Poly…UUUUgly and ahh no more Sunset point? Soon no pool, no fountain in lobby…no boat rental on the friction river from PO and OKW??/I don't get it….and a 50% stock gain in one year!!!
I'm longin fer the good ole days..me thinks them too greedy mon.

Thats a big stretch. Companies cut back the fat to increase profits all the time. They were likely an expense that was not equaling enough return....fat = trimmed.

Also there is way too much construction going on in too many areas that look Uuuggly.

Now I am starting to think you're just trolling.

It means you will only be able to rent watercraft at deluxe resorts. Why? Cost cutting most likely.

Also thinking they might want the personal watercraft (as opposed to transportation watercraft) away from the Downtown Disney area because of the construction.

There was a lot of complaining going on that nothing new was happening with WDW, and then they decide to change some stuff and build some new stuff and the complaints are about the fact that there is too much construction going on. How do you get change without construction?

It doesn't bother me a lot, it's not like they did away with watercraft rentals entirely, and if I was going to rent one I'd go to Bay Lake/Seven Seas Lagoon anyway. Possibly most renters did, too.

That's to bad about the watercraft rentals at POR. Was one of the things we really enjoyed about staying there. IMO, I think that's a bad choice.

Regarding construction: You just have to deal with it. I don't fault them for that. We always complain about the lack of updates, etc. You have to have construction to have new things.

So if I have an opinion on a message board Im a troll? Yikes,
I love WDW. I just think the Poly looks horrible from the video…doesn't mean I hate the place…I love it and maybe the new DVC will be nice….if ya got a ton of cash…sorry I like the old days when things were simpler. Troll? Not. Go read every post Ive ever written before you start calling people names.

OKW is a deluxe and has been discontinued

OKW isn't technically a deluxe resort...it is a DVC timeshare and has no regular hotel component at all (although guests CAN book it through CRO). They called these Home Away From Home resorts. It is on the Downtown Disney waterway as well. And I do stay there. I have never observed anyone rent a watercraft there. Saratoga Springs is on the same waterway, but it does not offer watercraft rentals. If it did, those would likely have been discountinued too.

No, not at all.

If you start threads or make posts with the intention of getting someone riled up and try to entice some sort of response you are.

I didn't call you a troll, I said I was starting to think you were just trolling.

I'm actually surprised they still allow any personal watercraft rentals. Wasn't there a case a few years ago when a guest ran into the ferry boat?

my post is titled 'explain it to me'
riled up? this a a discussion board….of the 11 posts you are the only one who are riley…the use of the word troll or trolling riles me…it is offensive in my opinion...

Last I heard the guest driving the boat failed to cede the right of way to the ferryboat (smaller craft should always allow right of way to larger craft.) His boat wound up getting sucked underneath and came out the other side of the ferry. He wasn't hurt, but his wife was badly injured. There was some talk about charging him with reckless boating, but he was from the UK and it would be hard to get him back for a court date.

seems like every time theres an accident they get rid of stuff…monorail-no more riding up front ….pool drowning- close pools at 11….boat accident- get rid of water craft…. I mean a billion people have been to WDW..im sure stuff has happened accident wise in the past we never even heard of in the pre info age…hope if someone chokes on a chicken nugget they don't close the dining venues park wide…tee hee…oh maybe i shouldn't say that I might be called a troll…
see..'tee hee" for clarification…uuuh hum

The only thing I can say is that I had no desire staying at CBR to rent watercraft. The theme parks and included resort amenities (the pool, playground) were more than enough to keep my family entertained without paying MORE to rent a watercraft. I can see that being a money loser.

But with FP+ only allowing 3 opportunities to avoid standby lines in the parks each day, isn't Disney really wanting people to go do things outside the parks part of the time?

If this were a result of the Downtown Disney accident there would be no more watercraft rentals anywhere. There are even larger ferries and boats on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake and you can still rent there. It's more like they decided the demand was not there at the moderate or DVC-only resorts. It's not like you can't still rent a watercraft, you just have to go to a resort that has them to rent. You do not have to be staying at the resort to rent a watercraft there.

I was so disappointed when we rented a water craft from the GF in Feb. When we used to visit Disney every other year in the 90's and up until 2005 my family would always take an afternoon and rent a couple of the little boats and had so much fun with them. So when we finally went back to Disney this year we decided to rent two boats from the GF. Now we are firmly into "middle age" and have rented these little boats many times in the past without ever getting into any trouble with them but this time I felt like the boat patrol was breathing down our necks constantly! Between the two of us we were "scolded" five times (too close to the shore, too close to the buoys) and then "you need to go back now":confused3. When we returned to the Marina and were asked if we had a good time I said no and explained what had happened. She just shrugged and said they have a lot more patrol boats out now because there are so many boats out in the water. Then don't rent boats out to people if you don't want us out there! A half hour for 2 boats with a discount was a little over $60.

Really too bad because that was always one of our happy memories at Disney and I won't be doing it again. On it a good note it made my husband feel like a rebel, he said he had never been pulled over so many times in his life, even when driving his Road Runner.:drive:
