The collie temperment should be more predictable with children than the JR (NOTHING against them!). I got a collie after college when I moved out on my own and she was a wonderful dog! They do require regular brushing, but in my experience the shedding and hair isn't as bad with that breed as with my husky/shepherd mix. Collie hair seems to sit on the surface of carpet and vacuums easily. Do check the health of the parents tho - this breed has some medical quirks as I recall....

Hey... sorry I have not been around much. Actually I signed off after the dog thread but then I just got caught up in other stuff. I'm alive and well (several people emailed and asked...just wanted to say hey.)

TM2, Collies are awesome. A lot better with kitties than JRTs.
