Escrow agents for cash rental?

We are planning a non Disney holiday this summer and have been looking at the TUG and Redweek sites for resorts in Virginia. The prices compare favourably with just going through the resort's own reservation system but we are nervous about sending $1,250 or so to some stranger and hoping they are genuine.
On the Redweek site it mentions using Chicago Title Co as escrow agent. They charge $50 to both renter and rentee plus about 1.5% to the rentee if they pay by credit card (good for foreigners like us). Half the money is paid straight away and the balance 60 days before the holiday.
Has anybody any experience of this kind of facility? How did it work out and is it a better idea (though costlier) than sending a cheque and crossing your fingers?
Thanks

Although I don't have any experience with timeshare rental escrow agents, I think they would be a great idea for dvc point rental. I am an owner but would consider renting out and renting in. Initially Ithink the owner renting would object but I think it would support a higher price per point. I have friends that would rent points if they could go through a reputable escrow agent. I know I would pay 50-100 dollars for a 2500 or 3500 reservation. My main interest would be to transfer points to my account. The agent would release funds after transfer was completed. I would pay a premium for this service.

If the dvc rental board agreed on an escrow agent I believe it would increase the liquidity. I think a few more people would rent out but a lot more would rent points
