are they all over the park? or only coming from the parking garage?

a relative of mine recently visited DL for a day, and told me that she didn't like it because not only was it an "old park" and "run down" but all she did was ride escalators all day.

I personally haven't visited yet, but I haven't read any complaints about escalators either, nor seen any pictures of them other than those from the parking garage. :confused3

being Disney, I find it difficult to believe that it would be run down at all, and I wouldn't even think its age would be showing. Is it? TIA

what a weird comment!! We stay on site so I have no idea if there are escalators in the parking garages... but I am trying to rack my brain to think of one in DL or DCA??! There is a kind of moving walkway on HM and BLAB, to help you get on/off the ride... but they aren't stairs... the only escalators I can think of are in the airport... ignore your relative... DL & DCA are not rundown, and for the most part are not showing their age!!

Ditto the Previous poster... The parks are the most well maintained of ANY theme park in the US! Maybe your friend never made it in the parks and thought the parking structure was Disneyland!

:rotfl:

There is only 1 escalator I can even think of, and yes it's at the parking garage. I have NO idea what your relative was talking about. :lmao: And I agree with PP Disneyland is not run down and old by any means.

Thanks! I seriously doubted her comments were valid, but didn't want to say so when I didn't know for certain. It seemed to me that putting escalators all over the park would detract from the Disney magic and it just didn't seem right to me. That is how she made it sound though, like they went up and down escalators all day long. :confused3

As we would be staying within walking distance of the park if we go, the parking lots aren't an issue for me anyway. And even if I was parking, I wouldn't mind an escalator there, I'd welcome it, LOL.

She says she was in Disneyland, so I guess she did actually make it into the park, LOL, but she had no idea what DCA was.

At least I know I can come here to verify any information -- or MISinformation! Thanks again! :goodvibes

What a funny comment. There are stairs in some of the queues (like Jungle Cruise) if she was there on a busy day. On not-as-busy days the queue bypasses the stairs. It's unny what our brain stores as memory, isn't it?

There's an escalator for the Monorail and up to Space Mountain, other than that, there are no other escalators that I know of inside Disneyland. There are moving walkways in some loading areas, but not escalators.

I don't think either of those have escalators (anymore).

Wow, I never went on one escalator during our trip in 2008, so I'm not sure what she's talking about.

You *have to* ask her more questions. What rides did she go on? Where did she eat?

It's fairly obvious she didn't go to Disneyland, as there's just the parking structure escalators, so what park DID she actually go to? Magic Mountain? Universal? WHERE????

"Escalator-Watch 2010" starts now. ;) sub-named "where did she actually go?" I'm crackin' myself up here....

There are a lot of escalators at the Anaheim Convention Center. It is not unusal to see escalators at convention hotels, so possibly also at the Hilton or Marriot. -- Suzanne

I suspect she went to Universal. They do have escalators, right? She may have also gone to Disneyland and confused the two, or for all I know she may think they are one and the same park.

I will be sure to point out her mistake, so she doesn't continue to go around telling everyone about her 'Disney' visit. Ugh, LOL.

I know her relatives gave her a 'whirlwind tour' of the area, and they went to different places every day. But still, I can't believe she told me not to go there, and how much I wouldn't like it, and she wasn't even talking about the right park. :headache:

I will let y'all know if and when I get the scoop, LOL. Thanks!

Nope, no escalators on either of these......

OP no escalators in the parks, just moving walkways already mentioned, the only escalators are in the parking structure. I have no idea what that person remembers but it's not DLR/DCA. :)

That's what I was thinking when I read your first post. Lots of escalators at USH.

Maybe she was talking about LAX? Did she leave the airport? JK.

I can assure you that DL is kept up better than WDW. Something that bothers me when I goto WDW is why can't they keep the same cleanliness and maintnance standards that DLR does.

You know what...maybe she went to Universal Studios. That place has that loooooooong escalator and is pretty run down

This is the loooong escalator at Universal Hollywood

Yes, this sounds like Universal to me! Big escalators and run down park, lol. I thought that right away.

Yeah, I think your relative might not be quite "all there" if you know what I mean. ;) The only thing I can add to the very short list (parking structure) is the moving walkways at Haunted Mansion. Heck, where would they put an escalator? The park's flat with a rare diversion up or down one floor.

And Disneyland is the most well-maintained park on the face of the planet. A week or so ago, I saw a cast member run out with a mop to clean up a bit of soda someone spilled. That dude was serious about cleaning up. Must've scrubbed down 20 square feet by the time I passed him. They bring out vacuums and sweepers after every parade. Trash patrol is constant. They have special quick-dry paint to touch up buildings and fixtures. There's an army of people doing cleanup, repair, and landscaping every night after the park closes. I'm pretty sure she's talking about a different park.
