Error message???

My son jsut got a new Hp Compaq computer but every time he tries to log onto VMK he gets an error message that says Xtras(text) not in folder/application or unable to initalize. Then we get a second one that says cast member not found. Anyone know what this means and more importantly how do we fix it? We have written to VMK 3 times now-no answer-no surprise, have tried redownload shockwave etc, search all over the web-he is very frustrated to say the least!

i wonder if it has to do with the windows xp built in firewall? download another browser instead of IE and then you can narrow it down. If the same thing happens its probably the firewall settings on the computer, if it works then its probably the security settings in IE.

If you could post some more information, I'll try to help. Specifically: let me know exactly what you're doing before you get the errors, and then give me the precise wording of the messages you see?

(Yes, I know, it's a pain, but I do what I call "ESP tech support": give me the details exactly, specifically, precisely.

Ok thank you to all that gave advice. What we had to do was download Netscape and then we redownloaded Shockwave only we chose the "download manually" option which meant we had to download three or four seperate components. Once that was done we tried to get on through Netscape-no luck, through IE-no luck but when we went back to AOL we WERE able to get on and play so he is a very happy camper right now! The original error message we were getting was that the Xtras(font) were not available or not initalizing and then we got a second error message that said cast member not found but it is working now so thanks for all your help and advice. And for the record-no no one from Disney or VMK ever got abck to us despite 4 or 5 requests!

That was an error that alot of us got back during beta.

I thing like Aengus suggested that your firewall is blocking VMK.

i had this same problem and couldn't find out what to do anywhere! i did finally find the answer that worked for me on shockwave help site. What i found out is that the link on the vmk homepage does not load in the full version which is what you need to play vmk. Oh man i went just about berzerk trying to find the Xtra files. Glad you got it to work for you.

My computer did the same thing. I have Windows XP, my computer won't let me have sound on VMK. So If I make a new character I have to turn the sound off immediately or VMK will shut down. That could be your problem.
