Ernesto Is Getting More Interesting...

Hmmmm, it still appears to be headed right over my house. I going to wait until tomorrow afternoon/evening to see what this storm does. If Ernie comes off Cuba and the projected path has not changed, then I will make the necessary preparations.
I started today......Saint Petersburg, after seeing the news this morning I went out and bought more water, and more ice, and topped off the tanks, I sure as heck do not want to be out fighting the hoards if it doesn't change course. I have also heard that they have brought in the generators at my place of work (I work for a pharmaceutical company) and they need to keep it cool in there. I pray that it stays a tropical storm, although the last time when Charley came past I worked with many who were without power for up to a week, so I want to be prepared at least for that. There is no chuckling from me not to be prepared, and everytime I see those things in the gulf I go into worry mode. Today I even started putting stuff away out in the yard so it isn't a rush if it does head this way.

The millibar pressure is up there (1002) and I was hoping to hear that they were considering it a TS. Cuba should continue to weaken it as well if it maintains that direction.

Factoid of the day: Wilma had the lowest Atlantic Hurricane millibar pressure: 882 :scared1:

Cuba may very well weaken it but the Gulf waters are definitely great for strengthening. :(

My thoughts exactly. Even though it got downgraded to a Tropical Storm, it will soon strengthen back to a hurricane as soon as it comes into the warm Gulf waters. This is usually how stroms go when they go over Hispanola and Cuba.

One of the guys I work with was out of power for almost two weeks, and he lives in Auburndale.

Thank you! I am SO excited to have another girl, and I can't wait to take them to games - my DH is already looking at little football jerseys, and I am checking out the cheerleading outfits :cheer2: !

I know what you mean about Ernesto staying away - I hope he doesn't rain out either of our opening games!

It's looking a little better for us this morning, but I would never let my guard down this early in the game, but as soon as I woke up I turned the news on and it does seem to be looking to go in further south now, all depending on the "high" Any which way we still need to keep Florida in our thoughts cause it is going to go somewhere, and I would much rather it stay a tropical storm then to build up again.

I'm going shopping here soon to top off supplies, not what I wanted to do.

Even though we aren't in any "watch/warning" areas,I'm just 1 city north of where it starts on the east coast. Not sure Ernie, will know to just stop at the city and county line or not. :confused3

Best wishes for all us Floridians.

UK DISboarder here

Just to send prayers and thoughts your way - we don't realise how lucky we are over here!!!

They've closed the schools in Orange county. The private school, where I work, will be closed tomorrow as well. I'm really hoping for a quiet, rainy day. They are predicting winds in this area for 50 mph. We've seen worse.

I'm in NE Florida, and I'm guessing that schools might be closed on Thursday, as the latest prediction has the eye hitting here at 8AM. If that happens, the morning commute will be a mess.

Another rainband and some wind is coming thru now, Channel 10 here in Miami has said that "Ernesto is a dud!" :rotfl: SO, it looks good for some of us, only 45 mph winds and no eye has formed, so thats a good thing. :thumbsup2

Here in Fort Myers -- tropical storm warning, rainbands and a little wind so far. Should be worse overnight and early tomorrow morning, but it doesn't look like it will turn into a hurricane. It's too late now. :)

Gee, wasn't it just about a week ago that all but 1 track prediction had Ernesto heading towards the New Orleans area thus causing many people to become upset.

As we have seen many times, including within the last 24 hours, predicting the path of a hurricane is very difficult even with the best equipment money can buy.

Hurricane season officially runs from June until November. We should prepare for the worst, hope for the best and at all times keep our cool.

Yes, indeed, cannot "predict" what a Hurricane will do, all the "fancy equipment" in the world can't predict that! :confused3

Funny you should say that. Many of my co-workers (who live in Auburndale) report losing power for at least a week with each of the "3" hurricanes in 2004. Good Old TECO!
