Ok, all you die hard disney fans... with the projected path of Ernesto this am, looks like we are going to get some yucky weather for our 23rd wedding anniversary (starting this thursday). I have spent way to much money to be stuck in the resort for days (we only have a long weekend). Please let me know how you handle this.

We're leaving today! Oh well- maybe for Disney we'll be lucky and it will veer off course (although I feel guilty about saying that- because its got to hit someone somewhere)- if not and it goes over Orlando, maybe we'll be lucky and the crowds will be low because of cancellations!

We arrive wednesday and I am still not worried, I doubt we will be stuck in the resort for days. More than likely being inland it will be a big rain event in Orlando. However I sincerely hope it weakens and does no damage for anyone in any area... :sunny:

We are to arrive Thursday am and looking at the track, I am just concerned about flight delays or cancellations. DH and I figure we'll make the best of this, but don't want to spend all day in the airport.

well this should be really interesting we have 14 day expiring tickets and if we are stuck in our hotel (por) i guess we just loose out on a day?

I will keep good thoughts for you that you are able to fly in ok on thursday. They do not let people stay at the airport during hurricanes if I remember right they evacuate it, or have in the past.

We were delayed arriving by Frances in Sept 2004, arrived the first day that the airport was open for flights. Saw all the devastation and damage as we were landing, we felt so bad for those people and wish everyone in the region a lot of luck that it is a very minor storm with little damage.... :sunny:

I really hope this doesn't spoil anyone's vacations, but I especially hope it doesn't spoil anyone's lives. Guess it was too good to be true to skate by without a Gulf hurricane this year. :(

I was watching our local news and on Fox the weatherman said it really shifted to the right, and the center reformed, and the upper level shearing is gone. He said it could be anywhere from very bad to not so bad for us. Here is the latest track. Looks like the track is getting very close to Tampa Bay. http://www.wftv.com/hurricanes/9733331/detail.html

Keep in mind that 5 days down the road is still a way off and it could shift again. The trough off of Colorado is what is pushing it to the direction it's going now. There is a possibility that once it gets through Cuba it could come off as a tropical depression, which would again, change things drastically.

I believe it's something most of us will want to watch.

Can't believe before going to bed last night, I was thinking we'd eye the reports from time to time-due to most of Florida was still in the cone, even though the "line" was headed to the LA/TX area (I have never trusted tracking for the storms that come through the Gulf-they seem to shift so easily) to this morning, seeing it was to hit Florida. But as they said, and so many learned from Charley, look at the entire cone, not the little black line in the middle.

From those going to WDW, to living in Florida, to anyone in the Gulf states, just monitor it.

I'm reading different stories on it. One said it'll hit Cat. 3, but would only be a 1 by the time it crosses the state.

Here's hoping and praying that everyone is safe. Even if that means some folks missing a day of vacation.

We don't go for another 3 weeks, so we have to watch storms too.

Good luck to all!

We are watching it closely, as I assume most people due to fly into Florida this week are. I am hoping it is not too bad, but we are arriving prepared for a rainy week. Everyone be careful and watch the weather closely down there, it is changing paths so quickly you just have to keep monitoring it's progress all the time.... :sunny:

for free? I'm wondering how close to landfall(days, hours) will it be before we might have that option. I know many of the DISers have unfortunately had experience with this. Thanks so much. Threehearts

PJ>>

We are going the exact dates as you... 8/31 - 9/4....
It is my 40th Bday.. and DH and I are going without our kids....

Safe travels to you... and let's keep our fingers crossed it weakens to a TS or lower by the time it hits Orlando!

Amen to that! I also hope that no one's vacation gets messed up. But please remember that while this storm might be a big inconvenience you, it has the potential to devastate those who live in the area.

I know this firsthand. My home and everything in it was taken by Katrina last year.

For the OP, I'm nervous about the storm, too. It's already on our local weather here in NE Florida and what we could be expecting next weekend after it crosses the state (Wilma last year did the most damage after it had crossed the state ... go figure). We're also planning our anniversary trip in a few weeks, so our eyes are on the weather nonstop at this point. We drive, so there are lots of areas we need to keep an eye on.

However, it's your anniversary, you're at Disney, hopefully in a really nice hotel room. I can think of lots of romantic things to do if you're "stuck" in the room with your hubby of years and years with no one to "interrupt" you :smokin:

I too am leaving friday this week, but my fears are diminished, thanks for the gentle reminder...mine is a vacation, yours is your livelihood. I hope you and your family are doing well at this recovery. :goodvibes

Thanks for all the nice replys. I'll be praying very hard over the next couple of days. Thanks for the links, I have added them to my fav's so I can check throughout the day. Cathy, maybe we'll 'run' into you during your celebration weekend.

I'll be flying in thursday morning as well. As long as we can land without delays and hop on the good old magical express I'll be happy.

Too early to get worried just yet. The track was so different just last night, so it could change again. Let's hope poor Cuba breaks down the storm a lot!

We were "bribed to plan our 7th trip in 7 years this coming 8/30-9/5.
No regrets.
We absolutely knew/know it is Hurricane Season and the last 2 years have been tough for more than a few communities.
So, no feeling sorry for ourselves - this is the deal we took..
.
That being said, I hope safe travels and lots of park enjoyment anyways . .
Bring a raincoat and enjoy the light crowds!
WDW handles hurricanes and storms as well as anyone. I don't fear for our safety, certainly not so far inland.
.
Hopefully, for WDW, it will be mostly rain.
We had a fantastic weekend there in November one year, when it essentially drizzled the entire time.\
.
Think of it as God's way of keeping real estate prices moderate in Florida.
