Suffered from migrains for 30 years. This one is a doozy. On day 2 and cannot stand it anymore.

I cannot get in to see my dr today but was thinking the ER or Walk-in clinic. Anyone done this and what do they usually do to help you out?

Have you taken anything? What about a walk-in?

Hope you get some relief! Twice I ended up in the ER over the years with a horrendous migraine.:headache:

Sorry didnt say what they did! Both times I had morphine injections until it subsided.

I have a family member who has gone to the ER several times over the last 30 years for migraines. They usually give them something to ease the pain, keep them for a few hours and send them home.

My DSis gets horrible migraines and then generally gets dehydrated because she can't keep anything down. In general, they hook her up to an IV, hydrate her and give her stong pain meds, muscle relaxants and anti-nausea meds.

I had one on Sun and it was awful! I generally only get one or two a year and that was my second in two months....thanks peri-menopause...

It's been at least 10 years since I've had to go in, but I had to resort to ER 2 or 3 times when the vomiting wouldn't stop. They put me on IV fluids, gave me anti nausea medicine & injected me w/ demerol(sp?). The real help was the anti nausea meds & the fluids.

Found out when I bumped into one of the ER docs about a week or two after I had been in that demerol is narcotic, which I didn't know. I mentioned to him that it didn't help the headache & made me jittery, paranoid, & kind of overall loco. He told me I am probably sensitive & shouldn't let anyone give it to me again. Sometimes it will make you doze a bit, but the headache doesn't budge, at least in my case.

For me I'm best w/ strong dose of ibuprofen & as much water as I can take in. Occasionally I'll try some cola to see if that helps, too.

Sure hope you get some relief. I've walked in your shoes -- and they pinch!

Went to a walk-in once with a 3-day migraine that wouldn't go away, plus vomiting. They gave me demerol and antinausea, plus IV for vomiting.

Demerol worked great for me - no weird side effects. I still remember the actual feeling when the med hit me, and the pain slowly went away...it was like heaven!

PS - how are you looking at the computer????

About once every 2 years I end up in the ER with a migraine. I am also epileptic and have IBS so once I start vomiting there go all my meds and a suppository for the vomiting doesn't help due to the IBS. So off to the er I go (after speaking with my neurologist who reccomeds it).

I get and IV with fluids, then zofran then dilaudid (I'm allergic to morphine, plus morphone can make headaches worse and epileptics should not have demerol as it can increase the risk of a seziure). Then then send me home.

I've actually been admitted for a SEVERE migraine, after having it 2 weeks and passing out twice from the pain, my neuro made me get admitted for IV steriods (and fluids, and potassium and zofran and pain meds). I NEVER want to do that ever again, as a nurse, I don't make a patient patient!

Mine don't usually get as bad as what you are describing, but if I were you, after two days I'd go to the ER.

My neurologist believes my stroke was due to migraines. I don't think they are anything to be taken too lightly. If it's bothering you that much, you should go.

Hope you feel better soon :)

I would go see someone. I've had horrible migraines but I haven't had one as bad as you describe. Things that have helped me are caffeine in large doses, water, excedrin, and a dark, quiet room.

Sorry you are feeling so bad!

I go to a headache clinic. The neurologist himself has migraines, he knows how it feels! When I have a doozy, they bring me into the infusion center and give a cocktail of IV drugs. Seems like I end up needing that once every year or two. WHAT relief knowing if my usual medicine doesn't work there is something else out there to help. When I need the IV drugs, its only a $20 co-pay through my insurance instead of a big ER co-pay.
