Okay to start off my Lily my dd4 was diagnosed at 11mths with septo optic dysplasia. We have just started with our 3rd therapy center and to top that off we are only getting OT and speech right now. So we have just ordered some equipment for her through a therapist that we have just started seeing and I mean last week we did evaluation this week we ordered equip. We ordered a wheelchair which I new that was coming b/c her original PT has been talking about getting a wheelchair for her since day one. The other piece of equip that we ordered is called an easy stand magician. We were planning on buying a new house w/in the next six months but have now decided it may be better for us to purchase a bigger vehicle for now and when I am getting close to being out of school (in 09) to purchase a new house.

1~ Do you own a easystand and how do you feel about it?

2~ What type of wheelchair do you have for your 4yr old?
(I know every situation is different but I am clueless right now and need so info I couldn't even say what type of wheel chair dd is getting.)

3~ If you have a wheelchair/kidcart etc. what type of vehicle do you drive?

This is my last question, I am looking a getting a new carseat for dd and I am wondering if I should look into getting it through my insurance or is this something my insurance will cover. No the carseat is not that expensive but for that price I can and would rather pay a med bill than for the carseat.

I love the stander!!! I have never used this kind but it has lots of different positions. Will you have a PT to show you how to use it to the fullest to benefit your child?

We just lost our PT a few months ago so we don't have one right now that will really be working with us on it but our OT will we have two one who works with our speech therapist and the other will be working with the new PT that we find. The only PT that we have right now is one who does intense therapies only and we are not scheduled to see her for a few more months. Hopefully we find one soon.

My DD has used the small adult version of the Easy Stand for a long time. I agree with the other poster that it is a very nice stander. It is easy to put up and down.
My DD had one of those at school. At home, she recently got a Rifton gait trainer. They can be ordered with a variety of "prompts", which are supports that help position/support the child to move. Right now, she has a lot of prompts, but we are hoping we can remove some as time goes on. There are some videos along the right side of the page that shows each prompt in action. I don't know if a gait trainer would be appropriate for your child, but it is something to enquire about.

For a wheelchair, is she expected to be able to propel herself at all?
How much support does she need to sit up?

We discussed the gait trainer but that is not an option for her right now that is our next step after the stander. As for the wheel chair she is expected to propel herself at what point or to what extent I am not sure yet because I have to factor in visual problems how don't know how that will work out. I think as she gets older I will start looking into the option of a service dog. She doesn't require much as far as sitting. She sits on her own and she transitions from sitting to laying and from laying to sitting. The only thing they added to the back of her seat is at the bottom a very small piece of support to stimulate her to sit straight up and not slump. Other than that the bottom of the seat will be formed to fit her legs and a strap and thats it.
