We normally drive so I was wondering, do we need to put DH's Epipen in his 3-1-1 bag or is it different with RX meds? I did not want to put it in our checked bags in case he would need it. Hopefully, there are no bees in the airport as he needs to get to it quickly if needed.

I would put it in its own 3-1-1 bag. You are allowed a separate bag for medicines, RXs. You so need to pull it out during inspection and let them know it is medical. That is what people do who have to travel with RX liquids larger than 3.4 fl.oz.

It's allowed, no need to put it in the "freedom baggie". Generally, medications are exempted from the liquid rules.

[Update] From the TSA website: "Medications, baby formula/food and breast milk are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces, and they don’t have to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint. TSA officers may need to open them for additional screening."

Happy travels!

We've never had trouble with our Epipen. I carry it in my purse as normal.

I carry two at all times and have never had a TSA say a word. And they are in my purse.

I carry a small backpack with meds and supplies for the whole family. This includes Epipens and diabetic supplies like lancets. I just tell the TSA person and I've never had a problem.

I keep my daughter's epi pen in a pouch with Benadryl tablets. I take the pouch out and put it in the bin just like I do my 3-1-1 bag.

I brought my epi-pens in my carry-on in October. I had the TSA agents visually inspect them because of this little blurb I read on the epi-pen website:

TSA regulations for medications
You may request that your EpiPen Auto‑Injectors be inspected visually rather than X‑rayed since the effects of X‑rays on epinephrine are unknown. Make sure your medication is clearly labeled; you may want to write your name on it as well. It's not necessary, but you may want to also bring a note from your physician explaining that your EpiPen Auto‑Injector contains a medication for anaphylaxis.

I am rather new to the world of epi-pens and had the exact same questions before I traveled. I wasn't sure they would be allowed in my carry-on, which is why I consulted the epi-pen website.

The xray used on your carry on luggage is so low that it won't affect medications.

I carry an epipen in my purse all the time. I have never taken it out for air travel- in fact never even gave it thought. oops! We travel all of the time fwiw
