Part 2.
Okay. Now where was I? Oh yes. The airport. We exit the plane and see the return passengers waiting to board our plane for the flight home to Toronto. I get somewhat sad because I figure we will be in that position eight days from now. We head to the shuttle and board. I love the Jack Wagner spiel. Just like the former monorail soundtrack.
Our luggage is waiting on ?B? side of MCO so down the escalator we go to wait. I always get antsy for my luggage. I am so afraid it will not turn up. I saw three duplicates of these suitcases go by. Finally June's big red suitcase turns up. Mine must be coming soon. Sure enough my chicken pox luggage veers its way around the corner. I wrestle with it and get it off the carousel. We roll them to a more secluded area so I can open mine and put my winter coat inside. June heads to the washroom to put on her shorts. I unload some junk from my backpack. We then head down to the taxi level of MCO.
Outside we find the taxi stand and request a ride to Disney's Beach Club Villas. A taxi van is flagged and we board. The driver tosses his cigarette away and gets in. He asks if we have been to WDW before and makes comments about not knowing where our accents are from. We were worried he would talk our heads off during the ride, but he did not thankfully. We were tired since being up from about 4am. Luckily there is no traffic and we make our way to the Beach Club in about 30 minutes. Now we were at Disney during hurricane Charley and saw the first wave of devastation. It really sunk in during this taxi ride at how much damage occurred after the other hurricanes. Our excitement mounts as we head through the ?Welcome To Walt Disney World? sign/entrance. Before long we arrive at the Beach Club and decide to just wheel our luggage inside and check in.
The lobby is as I remember it. We had stayed there several years before. There is no line up at the registration counter and check in goes smoothly for the Villas. We have reserved a studio under the annual pass holder rate and are asked to show the pass. My mother pulls hers out and we have our room keys in no time flat. The room is actually ready! Yay. I am glad we did not hand over our luggage to bell services since we only have a short walk to the room. I like the exterior colors of the Beach Club and Villas. Very soothing. The interior public areas of the villas are lovely. We are given room number 316. We get into the elevator and are pleased that our room is close making a very short journey to the lobby.
The key card works and we enter the room. It is very nice. Soft pastels and lighting. We were given a HUGE balcony. It is triangular in shape and there is lots of room. We are overlooking the pool. Excellent view and close to the lobby. Couldn't ask for anything more. The kitchenette area is stocked with coffee, coffee mate packets, sugar, sweet n' low, plastic utensils, a brand new can opener, paper plates, paper bowls, paper towels, dish soap and sponges. The room is very clean and neat.
I marvel at the size of the TV. Most Disney hotels we have stayed in have had tiny TVs. This one is huge. The only thing I wish is that Disney had better cable channels. Lifetime network doesn't do it for me
I would kill for pay per view.
Of course because I will be sleeping on the day bed I get my mother to show me how it works. I know. Silly. But I've never used one. I honestly do not know how to unfold it. We throw off the cushions and put them in the chairs. June struggles with it trying to get the bed to flatten out. Finally it gives and the bed is opening. Clean sheets are already on the bed. It is pretty close to the ground but seems to be okay. Ha. I say this now. (Ask me how my back felt by the time we came home) My mother's queen bed is pretty hard. Her bed is soft at home so this is a big change for her.
We've been in the room for less than 10 minutes and the phone rings. I freak a little since I think it is my pet sitter. It is my father. Ugh. I've told him to only call for an emergency. He about gave me a heart attack. I talked to him the night before to tell him I was going away. He and his wife will be driving to Myrtle Beach from New Brunswick and I wanted to wish them well since I would not get to talk before they left for their vacation. Anyhow he just wants to see if we made it ok and chat for a minute. After this I turn my cell phone back on. There is a long message from my father. AGAIN, I REPEAT only call my cell for an emergency when I am away, not just to see how the flight was. The roaming charges for my phone cost a freaking fortune. Oh well, calm down, calm down. I am at Disney everything is good I tell myself. I always worry a little about my pets since they are all older and have had some health issues lately. I do have a terrific pet sitter who is worth her wait in gold. Do not know what I would do without her. We brush our teeth, freshen up and decide to go to Epcot, our favorite park. (More to come)
