Epcot40 - Will there be any sort of celebration?

I have my first “big” Disney trip in a decade booked for this fall, and my primary reason for booking the dates that I did is because of the 40th anniversary of Epcot on October 1st.

I’ve had a couple smaller visits over the years but my last major trip was back in 2012 for Epcot30 and I had a blast, so obviously I want to be there for Epcot40. But apparently the larger WDW50 celebration is going to be happening until March 2023, and also it’s looking like much of the park is still going to be a big construction site by October. I was just wondering if there were any rumblings at all of anything special planned for the anniversary or if maybe I shouldn’t get my hopes up?

The way things seem to be now, I’m worried that even if they just release some fun retro anniversary merchandise, it’s going to mean spending an entire park day waiting in a line to get any of it.

I have a trip planned for November and I am crossing my fingers that the “Moana water feature” is completed by the 40th and Wallcot finally becomes Epcot again… but that may be asking a bit too much. Lol

I haven't heard a peep about it. You can rest assured that they will have merch. They already started with a lot of retro items a while back. There's a lot more Epcot specific merch in the new shop than I ever remember. I wouldn't expect the walls down any time this year with as slow as they've been moving. I hate my favorite park being so messed up.

I'm an EPCOT 80s kid ... bring on the retro merch! I've got a bunch from back in Oct '12 during the 30th. I should be down in WDW for November so hopefully they'll still have some good stuff in stock

I heard Chapek was going to be there with 2 sparklers for the 40th at Epcot. He said that they spent way too much on Harmonious and 2 sparklers is all they can afford. On a serious note I hope they do something, but I doubt they will. The 50th for the MK didn’t feel special when we were there in November.
