Epcot -what exactly is Maelstrom ...

Hi MM,

They are both indoor rides on a boat. They are supposed to give you a flavor of the country.

El Rio De Tiempo is reminiscent of IASW, only not quite as annoying! ;)

Maelstrom is a bit more exciting, as there is a small drop. When you finish you can either stay and watch a quick film about Norway or run through the theater and escape before the doors close (which is what most people do!).

The Maelstrom (in Norway) and EL Rio del Tiempo (in Mexico) are basically boat rides. I personally love them and would never miss them on a visit. Any ride or show in WS tends to be from a travel and tourism board, but I love it none the less.

They're both indoor boat rides, where you follow a track and there's stuff to look at. El Rio del Tiempo is very low-key. Maelstrom has a viking theme and there's a part where you go backwards and down a modest slope or two.

Bob P - IASW annoying? whatever do you mean?????
its a small world after all,
its a small world after all,
its a small world after all,
its a small, small world
see you're singing now aren't you?

Ok thanks. For some reason even though I look at the list of attractions I never thought these were rides - LOL I don't know what I thought. Ok we'll check them out.

Their two boat rides at the World Showcase in Epcot. El Rio del Tiempo *translates into "The River of Time" in Mexico is a slow moving boat ride, while Maelstrom in Norway is a little bit faster. The 2nd one has a movie at the end, but most people get out of there before it ends. :p But those are awsome rides though, not to be missed. :teeth:

I LOVE Maelstrom!!!! My mom used to be a 6th grade teacher and every February they took their kids to Epcot. Maelstrom was all the kids' favorite ride.

DEE-SA-PEER!
DEE-SA-PEER!

You can actually go here and watch a short video of the ride!

I really like Maelstrom, not a huge fan of the Mexico one, but it's nice. Try both at least once!

Don't mention Malestrom at our house! We took five year old Princess lover on it last trip and she HATED it...in fact we couldn't get her on another dark ride the rest of the trip! -- Not sure what it was, the darkness inside the ride, the scary (to a five year old) vikings or the part where we went backwards, but the poor thing was traumatized! -- I couldn't even get her on Peter Pan after the Malestrom debacle! :sad2: If your little one has issues with dark places, you might want to re-think going on this ride.

to completely go against the advise of others advising you to skip the movie after Malestrom.....we love that movie. it is so artfully done and beautiful. We dig it - even our son.

some day i hope to be able to afford one of those beautiful sweaters they sell at the gift shop there too.

We enjoyed the movie, too. Afterward we were ready to up and move to Norway!

We LOVE the movie, too. We'll sit through it each time we go on the ride, which is one of my son's favorite rides so we go on it several times each trip.

or, it could be the very large 3 headed troll, who says "GO Back, Go Back! Over the Falls! Over the Falls" while he is holding onto (and waving) a big walking stick. :rotfl2:
