I FINALLY got a day at EPCOT - it seems like forever since Tara and I have been to a park - she is too busy playing with her best friend who is moving out of state in 2 1/2 weeks. BFF trumps DISNEY and Mom!

Although the F&G Expo was very impressive this year as always, I personally was a bit disappointed. I had not looked at ANY photos on line this year prior to going - none posted on the DIS or any where, so it was not that I had already seen things!

I did not feel there were as many displays/exhibits this year as last - I was particularly disappointed in China - last year they had many water lillies, and the beautiful dragon in the water - this year - only figures depicting the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac.

I guess last year's theme of love to go along with the release of the postage stamps was more dramatic. As much as I thought the Pirate and Princess theme would be cool - it lacked something!

I thought there were far fewer vendors in the Festival Center - maybe that is why it was moved from Innoventions to the building between Test Track and Mexico - or maybe it was because it was a week day?

Anyway - I still came away with over 200 photos for the 4 hours I spent in the park - I was solo - so I spent no time on rides, etc - I was strictly exploring for the pure enjoyment of taking photos! I could not have picked a more beautiful day to escape from real life - it was very breezy, the temp was below 80 and no humidity.

Here's the link - 2007 Flower and Garden

Enough commentary - Here are a few I particularly liked!

That's a big nut for a little squirrel - he thought better of his choice shortly after I snapped this photo and ran off with a peanut from the basket to the left!

I loved this kinetic sculpture in the Sculpture Garden - again it seemed like there were fewer scupltures on display.

Butterfly garden - it seemed less populated this year. I did not see many butterflies - maybe it was too cool and early for them this morning!

Someone had posted the Beauty and the Beast stained glass window, and some one asked where it was - this is the outside view of the window in France - it's in a little "library" area between the Guerlain and Givenchy perfume shops.

I found this Bald Cypress bonsai interesting - we have BIG bald cypress on the property line between my house and the neighbors, and while it is beautiful when it is bearing leaves - it is such a mess when it losses them! I would much prefer this size!

Here's an example of what was displayed in China - Year of the Dog.

and here's the ship - just not enough color to make it as dramatic as last year's "Tunnel of Love' with the red hearts!

Thanks, Martha. As always, you have captured the moment. :thumbsup2 And all those in your photobucket account really are telling me I should be there, LOL.

Good shots!

I've never just messed around and took pictures. Since we don't live close, it's more of an occasion when we go. I always feel like I'm holding up the family if I dawdle to long at a photo opportunity.

That's exactly why I take a few hours on rare occasions and go without DD - she gets annoyed if I stop for too long to take a picture - like the squirrel, a rabbit and duck from yesterday - I probably spent 30 minutes in one area stalking them to get a photo!

Even living close she is all about the rides!!!

Hey, I'll be back in early Oct. if we want to do another photo safari. I've been meaning to start a thread, but just haven't had the time.

Thank you for sharing. I have always wanted to go at this time of year but it's the start of usy season for us at our business.

I live through photos like yours...Maybe someday I will get to see for myself.
:flower3:

Sounds fun.... some photos, and food and wine tasting! This time I will make arrangements for Tara so I don't have to hurry home!

Great pictures. They are all so clear and colorful. The one of the squirrel is cute.

Nice shots Martha. Nice to see that your out and about in the parks with your camera. Keep them coming.

Great photos. I can't wait to see if for myself in a couple of weeks.

Very nice pics Martha:thumbsup2 Glad to hear you were able to get away to take some shots.

Thanks everyone! Hoping to get back to a park this weekend - it is MOTHER'S DAY after all and is ALL ABOUT ME! Tara said she wanted to go to EPCOT - I had MK in mind - so maybe we will do both.

I guess it also depends on the air quality conditions - if any of you have been hearing about the wildfires and the impact on the air quality all over Central FL - it comes and goes with the changes in wind, but has been pretty miserable most of the week to be outside.

I agree. I didn't know whether it was that my expectations were too high, or that I had seen many of the topiaries in previous years, but my overall impression was that there didn't seem to be as much of an effort put into this year's displays. I did enjoy the zodiac signs in China, but I missed the big dragon.

We walked through the Festival Center, and then looked at each other as if to say "that's it?"
