Epcot to MK?

Hi,

My DS had scored us ressies for CRT next week! Big Yay! But just us 'princesses' will be going, leaving the menfolk to fend for themselves for a while. My DH would like to go to MGM that morning for EMH - is it possible/feasible to go with him and the kids to MGM, jump on ToT and Rock n Roll, and then jump the monorail to MK in time for a 9:45 ressie?

I'm willing to do it, if y'all think it can be done . . . .

There's no monorail at MGM so you'd have to take your own car or bus to the TTC then go to MK.

Yes, very silly of me - I've only been there once, and was mistaking where the monorail went.

Hmm. Still, how long should getting between MGM and MK take? Anyone ever done it/timed it?

Thanks!

Most CMs will tell you to allow an hour for transfer between parks. It doesn't always take that long, but it CAN take that long. In my experience, a bus between MGM and MK is more typically 30-40 minutes.

If you're at MGM right at rope drop then do ToT and RnR only, you should be done by 8:30am.

It'll be a close cut, but you could do it if you take your own car. If you have to rely on Disney transport, it's going to be slower since you may have to wait for a bus for TTC.

I love these questions and this kind of planning. My short answer is no, you can't reliably get there. You may get lucky, but you can't plan on it. My longer answer is this:

Well, you're traveling in the right direction, because the TTC, which is where you get off the bus for the MK, is also a hub. So you don't need to transfer. But you will need to get from the TTC to the MK by monorail or ferry. I'm assuming the official MGM park opening time is 9:00 on the day you're thinking of doing this. If that's the case, I don't think you're going to make it; at a minimum, it's going to be very very close.

Even with no lines, TOT and RRC take a while, because of the preshows. If the turnstiles open for early entry at 7:50 or earlier, you may have a shot. I think you'd need to get in, ride, and get out to the bus waiting area by about 8:40 at the absolute latest.

I believe at this time of the year, the busses go about every 20 minutes; sometimes more like 25. That makes leaving MGM at 9:05 your worst case scenario. 20 minutes driving time, plus ferry or monorail, and you'll do very well to get to inside the MK turnstiles by 9:45. Where is your PS? Even Crystal Palace is a 7 minute walk or so from the turnstiles.

Two caveats. First, if MK's official opening time is 9:00 that day, you're in trouble. You'll hit the TTC at the same time that it's being innundated with parkers who need to take the monorail or the ferry. If you're talking about doing this on the Saturday EMH for MGM, forget about it. If the Tuesday, you might have a chance. Second, the above assumes you'll wait the full 20 minutes for the bus from MGM. If there's one waiting there ready to go, you're probably safe, but you can't count on that. However, I'm not sure that 20 minutes really is realistic. While that is generally the interval between buses, I wouldn't think that there would be too many buses leaving MGM before EMH is even over. Maybe others can help on this, but there may not even be bus service FROM MGM at least until official park opening.

I don't think you have enough time. Go to MK, relax and enjoy yourself. Keep in mind that EVERYONE doing EE at MGM will be heading for ToT and RnR. Would you really be able to have fun on the rides if you were worried about getting to CRT for your PS? Don't they want you there 15 minutes early? I know other restaurants will hold your table, but will they do that at the Castle?

If you won't be able to make it to MGM on any other day, perhaps your DH and sons can grab you a couple of Fastpasses after they are done making the rounds and you can go to MGM later that evening to do the thrill rides. I LOVE ToT at night!

This may not help the OP, but in general... if the MGM bus goes to TTC would the fastest way to MK from MGM be to take a bus to CR and walk or take the monorail?

I wouldn't push it. You want to arrive a little early at CRT and enjoy the atmosphere and RELAX! We ended up getting our ressies at CRT on our planned Epcot day (ps's for dinner there). So, we went to breakfast and then went on to Epcot for the rest of the day.... There's plenty of time and you want to enjoy your special breakfast in the castle!

That's creative -- taking the bus to the CR, you just might make it if you walk. I don't think you would make it if you take the monorail from the CR, since I'm pretty sure you'd have to take the "local," and it makes 3 stops before the MK during a pretty busy time of the day. You'd probably not have much trouble loading onto the monorail though, since the CR is the first stop.

In a similar approach, you could take the bus from MGM to the GF and then take the monorail, which is only one stop. I think there's also a boat from the GF marina directly to the MK, but I don't know how frequently it goes.

Maybe the answer would be to take the first bus you can get on from MGM to either of these three places. You might just make it.

OK, here's my thought - we drive to MGM. Last year, when we got there at 7am, we parked in the front row, and that was on New Years Day. So we go in, do the rope drop, sprint to TofT and the RRC, then my DD and I sprint back to the car, drive to MK, park and run to the Castle.

I have to believe that taking my own car would be much faster than taking Disney transport, and we are staying at the BWV, so it's walking for the boys left back at MGM, in case they want to go somewhere else.

Hmm. How spry do I feel? I just LOVE planning .. . . :teeth: !

Check with Tyler aka "Chip 'n Dale Express" over on the transportation board. He can give you a complete rundown. Also there maybe a direct bus between the parks.

another option, take the boat from MGM to the first resort (Swan or Dolphin I think), and grab that resort bus directly to the bus stops in front of MK. I think you can do it.
