Epcot parking on NYE

My coworker tells me that exiting the Epcot parking lot after the fireworks on NYE was a nightmare. The lot on the left side as you exit, cleared out in a reasonable fashion. But on the right side, where he was parked, was gridlocked for an hour and half.

Anybody know what was going on there?

Same thing happened to us last year -- although we waited 45 minutes. We were there at early open, so we were in the very first lot and very close to the entrance. In fact, we walked to our car when we left. The only thing I can imagine is just a bottleneck of everyone trying to get out at once. We finally took a road that is normally an exit route, but still waited in about 10 minutes of traffic to get to the main road. Once out there, it was clear as a bell.

But why would one side clear out so much faster than the other?
