How could anyone want Spaceship Earth to change?! It's a one of the only Disney Classics left at Epcot! We already lost Horizons and World of Motion! I know it's not that exciting, but doesn't anyone still see the value in "quality"?

Anyway, I read that changing the design of the ride would be too difficult, since the track is part of the sphere structure. In order to change the track, they would have to take the Ball apart, which I don't see them doing.

But I agree with the others, get rid of the hand and wand. It's not quality and it looks "Hokey".

This may be an odd question but how exactly will they get the ride out of the sphere? I mean would they open it up somehow? Maybe I'm just thinking about it too hard.

That is not necessary. There are already ways for them to get the vehicles and even larger showpieces out of the sphere. How do you think they take out SSE vehicles for maintenance? Disney would not build an attraction without access. Getting the ride out of the sphere would not be hard at all as it would come out the same way it went in. Only the track was installed before enclosing the sphere, and that can easily be removed piece by piece.

What the story was, is that the "time racers" ride was supposed to exit the sphere at some point and then go back in. They were also supposed to build a "launching" area on the left hand side of the ride {facing it from the front gate} which would have effectively blocked off the walkway into the main area of the park on that side, because of the size of the building required to house the launch area.

I love the part of the ride when you turn around and see the Earth hanging in Space - it made me feel very humble!

I really hope they don't change Spaceship Earth. It would make me very very unhappy one of the things I love about the Disney parks is there are alot of great rides for the "non thrill ride" people like me. I go to most parks and I can't ride anything. Now Disney is getting more and more thrill rides. There are many children and adults who can't/won't ride them. I love Space Ship Earth and I hope it doesn't become a trend to get ride of fun "non thrill rides" for the thrill varity.

Even though it is a classic, it needs to change. Its outdated and it shows. They did this ride when light tubes were all the rage, and now it looks bad. That is the main complaint I have with Epcot, it all looks run down and in need of rehab. In fact all of the old Disney parks, the rides look outdated and in need of something new.

LOL - and here I thought I was the only one who didn't like the hand/wand over it! Always nice to hear one is not alone!

I don't care for the D/MGM hat either - much preferred the Earful Tower as the icon... But I don't dislike the hat as much as I do the JUNK around Spaceship Earth.
