has it always looked like this? The world showcase is great but the first part of Epcot where all the rides are it seems quite ugly looking, which is a shame as when you get to the countries it is lovely.

The building with Soarin' and Living with the Land - always seems outdated and depressing to me.

are there any plans to change this? Or I suppose that it cant be changed?

I adore Epcot and if they change anything about the land pavilion I would probably cry.

The question is would it draw more people if they changed it? Soarin was actually built as an addition to The Land building. The building with Mission Space was completely redone. Test Track was renovated from the original World of Motion and the interior was recently completely changed. Nemo is more recent, they took out the fake "hydrolaters".

Future World was supposed to look "sleak" if you look back on the original plans. Hence all the concrete, glass, color's used etc. I have no problem with the appearance but they need to make the attractions a little more future. Bye bye Ellen, revamp imagination, and the body pavilion etc. W/O World Showcase I wouldn't even considered Epcot a park really in its current state. They need to redo FW.

Agreed! Our 14-year-old son is absolutely in love with the Land pavilion and would like to move into the house featured inside the ride. He is very bothered by the general lack of love for the land. He would cry along with you. I am all for WDW change, but I think that's the one thing I'd like them to preserve. Disney, do what you'd like to MK, with FP+ and with Poly DVC, but please don't bother the Land! :)

FW could use some love. I'm not talking a big overhaul, just a makeover. FW was pretty magical when it opened, but technology moves faster than theme park design these days. :earsboy:

I love Epcot. Some of my favorite things in all WDW reside there: The Seas, The Land, Innoventions, and Spaceship Earth! I think it comes off as a concrete jungle because it is so spread out. Getting from the Land to Test Track and Mission Space is a decent walk.

I agree with other posters stating that the Energy Adventure needs an update and they need to bring back the Wonders of Life pavilion! Journey to Imagination could use some work largely in the 3D movie and activities around it! (I am not a real big fan of this version of the ride but I am realistic in my expectations that Disney isn't going to rehaul it AGAIN so soon after the last renovation.)

Epcot was never intended to be a "Park".
It was envisioned as an ever changing landscape showcasing advancements in technology, (FW), while maintaining a link with the past. (WC)
Somewhere along the evolution of FW they lost sight of their original idea to feature new and innovative technology, and instead began to emulate parks like Universal with the thrill ride mentality.
I rather liked their original concept and wish they'd stuck with that formula.

I agree with Networth.

Yes...in 1982 this was REALLY cutting-edge and forwardithinking in design. The problem is that Disney is just abandoning it and letting it rot.

But don't diss Spaceship Earth, please!

I LOVE that ride!

Actually, if you Google pictures of Epcot in the early years, there was a lot more greenery in Future World. It's quite striking in some of the pictures just how much of a concrete jungle that area has become.

Wanted to add that the "mausoleum" at the entrance plaza was really a terrible idea. It reeks of a bean counter suggesting that "empty space could become a profit center!":sad2: If you want to get rid of the concrete jungle, those things have got to go.

I do too! I's been my fave Epcot ride ever since I first rode it in 1983. :)

This is where I am. It needs some updates to either 1) make it up to date and relevant or 2) to make it retro space age

My 4 year old's favorite ride is "living with the land" and the 2 year old claims "nemo". We love world showcase and usually spend most nights at Epcot. It's the ambiance of WS that is so disney.... FW needs the Wonders of Life pavilion or something to move in there.... And a few more rides in WS would be great (4 yo second favorite ride is the "Donald boat ride" in Mexico. She's a nerd like her mama). Frozen in Norway? Rapunzel in Germany? Brave in UK? Such wonderful animations that need a ride! (Ok I will settle for The Snuggly Duckling piano bar...)

Actually, it's worse than that. The entrance plaza looks eerily like ideas of how to warn future generations (who may not speak any known language) about where nuclear waste is buried and to stay away. Does a landscape of "hapes that hurt the body and shapes that communicate danger" look familiar?
