Epcot Fountain Becomes a Hot Tub

Oh yes,Picture Posing used to be very routine at WDW,but I haven't seen any in a long time-I think the Cheer powers that be must have really cracked down on the practice.

Cheerleading Competitions and their relationship with WDW is really just so massive-Disney even built an 8,500 seat Arena JUST FOR CHEER AND DANCE COMPETITIONS at ESPN WWOS!

Here is a decade old Photo when Posing was common and I have to admit,while dangerous(we were holding our breath),having the RnRC Guitar as a backdrop made an awesome WDW picture!lol

And definitely not on the same misbehavior level as Fountain Trespassing!lol

Yeah, and, you know, they shouldn't do that, but also all that really needs to happen is a CM tell them not to. It's not that big of a deal unless they continually repeat the behavior.

I think the point would be to not put the CM in that position, no?

Even security for that matter but especially a CM who would be going up against a decent sized group to tell them to knock off something they should know not to do anyways. I get why there are CMs out there that don't even want to try getting involved, it's not a position they should be in when all they are trying to do is their job but not crowd police a group that knows doing a cheer routine in a park or at night at a resort is a no no.

That's why people have such feelings towards the cheer groups or the 15s because it's more like a lack of awareness of others although other large groups of people are certainly capable of causing issues as well.

Ruining someone's day is usually not where people go with the conversation but it is why there's such annoyance at them.

Reminds me of a tee shirt my DH has that says, "Let's remove all the warning labels and let the stupidity problem take care of itself."

Sad ...but I think it was the right move by Disney.

I have to agree with you. It's unfortunate for the kids but it's also a good learning lesson. There are consequences for your actions, and they will be enforced. Too many times this doesn't happen. Maybe if it did, we wouldn't be having so many problems in today's world.

I’m in the group with the one who reported the cheer team was disqualified. She has since said she got that wrong, so the team is not disqualified. No folllow up past that though, so no idea if there were or will be consequences.

I really dislike that kids were punished because of the adults behavior. Haven’t those kids been punished enough already—these people are their parents!

I can’t even begin to imagine the reactions of our kids if my husband and I did something this ridiculous. We embarrass them enough just by breathing.

I'm not really commenting on strong or not strong opinions though (just was explaining a reason why people do get annoyed by them) but more just your talk of basically all the CM has to do is just tell them to stop. That may be true but it's really unfortunate that someone would do that to an employee, force them to take action just because you aren't being courteous of others and from a bystanders viewpoint that would be my stance that "really you couldn't have just decided not to do this on your own?"

In terms of the theme park (or resort) environment it does alter it from clogging the pathways, to creating a potential security issue, from blocking access to attractions (or in the case of photo ops hogging it) and when it comes to linking hands that makes it so people can't get around them. In queues the ambiance can be disrupted, etc. At the resort very loud noise carries.

I don't think it takes someone to have a very strong opinion about the topic to agree it can negatively impact others, sometimes people are trying to look out for others, I think that's what gets people talking about these large groups. It's not just about my personal park experience but I understand and get that it's a no biggie thing for you

I agree with all of you who have said that people just seemed to have stopped thinking/caring!

I know that in my childhood, my parents kept an eye and let me know that there were different ways to behave in different situations. I guess that if you weren't taught that as a child, then, in adulthood, you might need other authorities to draw the line for you -- and, sometimes, a hard line.

All I can think when I look at pictures like this is, “And THIS is why there are so many warning labels on everything.” People have absolutely no common sense any more. I have no problem with having fun and living your life as long as you’re not hurting anyone, but there are certain things- like chilling in a fountain with cocktails, amongst other things- that anyone with half a functioning brain cell knows not to without needing to be told.

I never said that it doesn't negatively impact otehrs nor did I say that it was okay that they do it. Of course they shouldn't! I just don't think it's the most serious transgression in the world.

Well of course it isn't no one said it was They are just expressing their irritations with observations. Usually in general that's about as much as people are doing. They aren't trying to portray it as if it ruins their trip just that there was an impact to it however fleeting or not fleeting that was.

If I saw adults in a fountain I'd roll my eyes lol but if I saw a group of youths in front of the castle taking endless photos and taking time that might be higher up on my annoyance scale for example.

We can't blame everything on Covid. I'll bet two things: a) if these dilwads are so inclined, they would have been equally inclined 4 years ago, given the opportunity; and b) at some point prior to 2020, the Epcot fountain had other people splashing around in it.

That's actually sort of hard to define. I think it is generally that the fountain is a restricted place tht a guess shouldn't be in at all. Also, the posing is a tertiary and quick occurrence - it appears the fountain sitters were just hanging out. Also, the fountain folks aren't 17 years old and should know better. I admit, these are not objective and scientific determinations.
