Epcot Food and Wine Festival

Can anyone tell me why Disney have extended the Food and Wine festival this year and is this something that will continue. We are visiting again next year and wanting to come last week Sept and first week in Oct 2015 but don't want to miss any of this.

I don't know the reason why they did it, likely the popularity and wanting to give people a reason to come during a normally slow part of the season; and I also can't say if it will continue (I'm sure Disney doesn't even know that). However, apart from the early start this year, the festival has always started the first weekend of October (sometimes a few days earlier). So if you stick to the dates you mentioned, then you definitely won't have to worry about missing it.

I am pretty sure it was extended because of how popular it is. We went for the first time last year and had so much fun, we decided to go back next year too!! Only next year we are bringing more family members and having a 'reunion' of sorts.

F&W took a 'dead' time and made it a money maker, plain and simple. Notice how the Flower & Garden fest added food kiosks last year to accomplish the same thing. Over time the suits at Disney will find/create an event for every time frame and there will be no more slow times at all.

I totally agree with this. Disney World, as a business, is a smart one. What used to be slow times have gotten added things to attract even non-park goers. The first weekend in January after New Year's used to be a great time to go. Now it's the marathon weekend. Take the used to be dead October time frame and put in a festival for the adults and a not so scary party for the entire family.

Disney World can be enjoyed all year round so things can be added throughout the year to make the vacation about having a vacation, not just going on rides all the time.

I like this way of thinking since it's just my husband and me so we can go whenever we want and there's always something else besides the parks to do. We go to the parks but then there's always alternatives and we never have to leave the property.

Yep. It usually starts the last weekend in September, but they moved the opening date up a week this year. I would imagine that it will continue if they make enough money from it.
