my pregnant wife and I are going for 1 day - cant imagine were doing any rides.

Should I be bothering to do the magic bands for any reason?

MagicBands have many functions. They can be used to enter your room, room charging (with CC on file at resort), park entry (with admission linked to MDE), PhotoPass and FastPass+.

You can also get FP to some of the shows.

You can pick the day of but you may or may not get the show when you want it if FP is full. Go ahead and take a chance and then change it if you need.

Since you're only going for one day, are you planning on spending a night in a Disney hotel? Because that's the only way you're going to A) get a Magic Band and B) book FP+ ahead of time. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until you get to the park to book FP+.
