I'm thinking about going to epcot and using fastpasses for the first time in awhile. I was interested in doing the new soarin and frozen, but of course frozen was added to tier 1. I have no interest in any of the other attractions and was wondering if you HAVE to fastpass an original 3 in order to pick more after. For example, if I only fastpass frozen, once I use it will I be able to pick soarin or will it say that soarin is in tier 1 and I am still on my first 3?

You do have to use your first 3 or have them expire. Bunch them up as early as possible to get to your 4th. Soarin' may be a hard get as a 4th FP.

The other option is to Rope Drop one of them and then FP the other.

Agree 100%. Even if you stack all three of your initial FPs for first thing in the morning, you'll have a really hard time getting an FP for Soarin' as your 4th. I'd hit one of them at Rope Drop.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we won't be able to grab soarin, it's just a gamble I'm willing to take because we have no interest in the other attractions. We usually do rope drop but since this is a weekend trip and we are already rope dropping Saturday, we will pass on rope dropping Sunday. We usually skip epcot but we are trying to get soarin and frozen in before our passes expire!

Well, remember that Soarin' is upping its capacity by 50% so hopefully that will help the wait times a bit. Of course, the new movie may be a draw there too, so it could be a wash. I would still FP Frozen and ride Soarin' standby as Frozen will be super popular with less capacity than Soarin' has.

Stinks that they've done away with letting you only book a Tier 1. I did that multiple times under the old system. Disney gives (adding 4th FP by phone) and Disney takes away (booking multiple Tier 1s)
