Epcot F&W and dining plan

We are planning are going to Food and Wine at Epcot and was wondering which dining plan works best. We have been told that you can buy food in kiosk's.

We have found that the quick service plan works best for us. We usually only do this during F & W so we can use the snack credits at the booths (we usually hit the booths 2-3 times during a F&W trip).

And using the quick service plan, we can eat spontaneously and it's not as much food.

I would say use quick service since you get 2 snacks per night. If you want some sit down meals you could always use the DVC discounts available at epcot in addition to your QSDP.

I don't want to eat a "Disney so so hamburger" when there are lots of tastier options If you could use the QS credits at the kiosks then it might be a good deal, but since you can't I just don't think it's worth it.. (I buy a LOT more then two kiosk things a day!)

We have found that when we had the DDP and went to F&W we ended up with many QS meals leftover. We usually had food from the kiosks for lunch and ended up with most of the credits left. In 2010 we purchased a TIW card and that worked much better for F&W but you can only get that if you have an AP. Enjoy! The food is great!

We went for the first time in 2009 and I made ADRs for dinner each night and regretted it (even though I thoroughly enjoyed all the meals). We are going again this year (checking into BCV on Oct. 27 for four nights), and for the four nights we're only making one ADR and that is for Sunday at DHS when we will be steering clear of Epcot.

We are hoping that they return the Taste, Shake and Roll like the French Grand Mariner tasting, we want to do that Saturday afternoon and Party for the Senses Saturday night. Besides that we do not plan on any other ADRs during our stay at BCV. We are going to eat completely from the kiosks (or cook in our room).

What we found on our trip (and we can't really eat a lot of food) was that we would hit 2-3 booths or eat 8-9 plates of food from the kiosks and this is splitting the food between two of us. Now mind you we were on a mission, to try almost every taste at the F&W Festival. After the 8-9 plates we were full and took a break on some slow moving dark rides. With our dinner ADRs we didn't have enough room to try enough of the plates so that we could go back for our favorites. We barely made it through everything that we wanted to try.

It seems that they repeat the popular items each year so this October we won't be so Hel* bent on having to taste everything if we had it last time and didn't love it. We'll focus on the new stuff and our favorites from 2009. I wouldn't want to have any dining obligations, including food credits to use up. Unless you are a picky eater and only want to try a few of the offerings, I would just eat from the kiosks and supplement from the CS restaurants as needed. No dining plan necessary.

Can you use TIW for the KIOSKS during F&W?

We have been in the recent past, and the TIW does not work at the kiosks.

On the topic of the OP, using the DDP depends on what you plan to do for the week. We paid for 8 days it in 10/08 and had free DDP for 10 days in 10/09 (which was much better!). We have a small child, so it was nice having the TS meals to sit and relax for an hour. We did try to save our snack credits for the F&W kiosks. In '09, we did have a surplus of QS meals, so we "bought" lunch for some friends who just joined us for 1 day. Had they not been there, we probably would have wasted those QS credits, but we did not pay for them anyway. Both trips were sufficiently long that we were able to use up our QS and TS entitlements fairly easily. We would occasionally use 1 QS just to get a breakfast to split.

If your plan is to spend every day at F&W, you would probably have trouble using the QS entitlements and you would end up spending less $$ just paying cash.

We are going again this October. We have TIW, so we are going to do a few TS with that, but I think at the current cost of the DDP (either standard or QS), the benefit or having DDP would be marginal and I just don't think we could eat all of that food. The servings at the kiosks are large and filling (and really yummy!). If we were going to get one of the plans, I might opt for the QS plan, since the 2 daily snack credits per person can be used at the kiosks and on the days that we are at the other parks, we could use the QS credits. We would still do some TS at Epcot, since they have the best restaurants there.

We are really looking forward to F&W, after not being able to go last year. Have a great time!

You can use only snack credits at the kiosks. So a plan that gives you more snacks will allow you to purchase more at the kiosks. You can't use QS or TS credits anywhere at the festival.

The kiosks do not accept any other type of discount (TIW, etc). TIW works if you decide you only want a few TS meals while you eat other meals by grazing around the kiosks, instead of trying to use TS dining credits for your full stay.

You cannot use DDP credits for any festival special events at all. Whether you want a DDP or not depends on whether you want the regular counter-service meals or, for the plans that include TS, whether or not you still plan to make reservations and go to TS restaurants.

Another question regarding F&W and QSDP - how early do they announce what foods can be bought with snack credits? I have noticed they are cutting back more and more on what is considered a snack credit and I'd hate to add the QSDP and find out most of the foods are the festival are no longer snack credits.

I don't think they ever announced which items could be purchased with snack credits. It changes sometimes from what is announcedand what is actually at the kiosks. Not a lot, but a couple tastes at one or two countries were different than the website. The best way to get an idea is to look at dining reviews that show pictures of the menus. Last year could be an indication of what they may do next year. Or if you're like me and going late in the festival, you can follow reports of people who go early, and make your decision then. You can add the DP as late as 48 hours prior to check in. If you do the QSDP, you won't need ASRs either.

For the past three years, a snack credit could be used to purchase any single food or non-alcoholic beverage item from the World Showcase kiosks, regardless of the cost of the item. Yes, even the $7.50 lobster roll.

Before that, snack credits could be used to buy kiosk food items under a certain cost (I think it was $4)

It's never guaranteed year to year that Disney will follow the same procedure. We will know for sure when someone takes photos of the festival menu boards going up. All snack credit eligible items are marked with a DDP logo on those boards. (In 2009 there was a kiosk where the DDP logo was inadvertently left off the menu board, so guests were assuming they didn't take snack credits. The board was eventually replaced)
