I was just reading up on Le Cellier Steakhouse and noticed that the meat comes from Canada. You know where I'm going with this? Should there be concern about mad cow?

Also, is there a pass to eat at all the places in the world showcase? There's so many places, how does one ever taste them all?!?!?!

I can't answer for certain, but I had a steak burger last month there and I am fine! And I do not usually eat beef (prefer chicken or fish), but the temptation to eat beef there was quite strong! A lot of folks were eating steak (including my DH) and they look wonderful! The steak burger was extremely tasty.

As far as eating everywhere in Epcot, I have been visiting since 1983 and I haven't been at every place yet! I've sampled foods in all of them, though, except for Morocco. We try to hit a "new" spot each time we visit, even if it is only a snack stand. I had not been to Le Cellier in Canada since 1998, the year we took the Disney cruise. It had just changed in format (used to be cafeteria-style) and I was lukewarm about it. I am a fan now. Same for China - I ate in the Nine Dragons restaurant with a group of friends on a girls-only trip. It was fine, nothing spectacular. But there is a snack-type place that serves wonton soup and eggrolls that is excellent if you really don't want anything more than that.

When Epcot first opened, there was a mad rush every morning to make reservations at all the “countries”. Quite a stampede and really pretty funny watching the folks waiting to sprint off the monorail to high-tail it to the computers. Things have settled down considerably IMHO and folks are now returning to their favorite haunts and types of cuisine. Lunch is always a safe bet and always less costly. And don’t forget sampling the desserts of each land – funnel cake in America, kakigori in Japan, croissants in France’s bakery……it could take many years and many pounds!

Morocco has great food and good entertainment. It is not spicy and there is a varied menu. Also the Tangarine Cafe outdoor eating has some good lunch food. It is a favourite of ours.

I think Disney would rather avoid a lawsuit, than serve mad cow. I can understand your concern, but it is a very rare disease. I would imagine that Disney would carefully monitor their suppliers. If you are uncomfortable about it just don't eat there....

I would like to say that I am British, and as such am unable to give blood in the USA (I have lived here for 10 years) as I am considered at risk, anyone who was in UK eating beef during the 80/90's pretty much falls into that category believe it or not. Which is a lot of people out there! . .....I may be a cow sometimes, but as yet I am not mad!!!!

The last two times we have eaten there there has not been the big "this is Prime Beef from Canada" spiel that we were given on our first visit a few years back. Subsequently I can honestly say that our steaks were neither as tender or flavorful either.

I'm glad you posted this. I live in Canada and I eat Canadian meat EVERY single week. Now I'm beginning to think that eating it may be the cause of my recent memory loss, emotional instability, inappropriate outbursts, and dementia.

I think that there should be MORE concern as to why people such as yourself aren't better educated on this matter. Did you know that the mad cow they discovered in Canada was actually FROM the United States? Therefore, perhaps you should avoid eating at the USA pavilion in Epcot as well.

I'm not sure I would flame someone for their legimate concern about something as scary as mad cow, but think of the odds. I would say if you make it to WDW safely, either by car or plane you've more than beat the odds that might exist in picking up some extremely rare like mad cow.

And to think you didn't pick up some other disease from any undercooked meal or some fast food employee not washing their hands or sneezing in your salad before serving it to you on the trip to sunny FLA, I wouldn't be too concerned about Mad Cow.

Considering here in the US, our current administration is cutting the number of FDA inspectors who keep an eye on large factory farms and meatpacking industries, I would be more worried about the beef you get in your American supermarket.

For example, did you know that large corporate farms put a time release estrogen capsule in their cows to keep them from going into heat? The capsule is called Estradiol and it is a known cause of breast cancer. It is in your baby's milk and your toddler's Happy Meal. I know this because my wife has cancer and I have done lots of research to keep my daughter from going through this.

How can you get away from this? Buy locally raised beef from a farmer that does not use hormones or antibiotics. Buy "free range" chicken. It costs a little more, but when you see what cancer and chemotherapy does to someone, it is worth it at 10 times the price.

On that note, I dont think you should be worried. I dont think there's EVER been a case of that happening in WDW..

Not trying to flame anyone but let’s look at the real reason why the US/Canada boarder is closed with respect to livestock. The US imported roughly 20% of their beef from Canada - no longer - thus less supply with the same demand. Can you see where I am going with this? Simple economics = more $ for beef paid by consumers and received by the cattle industry in the US. Think they want the boarder opened anytime soon? It has zero to do with one cow testing positive for BSE which originated from the US in the first place. I’d be more afraid of that.

And yes, I would say the same thing to you because it was comments/questions like yours which had Americans boycotting Toronto because of SARS but that is another story.

I don't think anyone was trying to be nasty to you but you have to appreciate that as Canadians simple questions like this can seem to cause undo panic when we eat our beef everyday . I would trust Le Cellier to make sure they were getting top quality products.

I think the Original Poster got their answer. There is virtually no reason to worry about eating at Le Cellier.
