Epcot crowds - first weekend in December

As I keep saying, it's been almost ten years since I've been to the parks in December.

Is Epcot crazy on Saturdays, similar to F&W? My Saturday Epcot day (which is all day) is primarily the holiday storytellers and shows. Anything I want to ride, I have FP for. This is on 12/2 - I'll have gotten other rides done on my first day, 11/30.

I think most of the parks are a lot more crowded on the weekends.

That’s a fair point. I just hope it’s not a wall of people that makes moving impossible.

Not that I’m going to change my plans. I suppose I’ll be braving it with my FPs and ADRs either way.

We've been going that week for the last six years. It will be pretty crowded. Probably not like a Saturday during F&W, but the crowds that week are getting heavier and heavier every year, and Epcot is a popular choice on Saturdays for locals looking to dine out and take in a few rides and see the holiday decorations. It sounds like you have a plan, so I'm sure you'll be fine. It can be a little frustrating hearing the storytellers with large crowds around you, though, so I understand your concern. FWIW, I will be there that evening, too (spending the morning at another park and at our resort, though).

Thank you for your response! That makes me feel both better and confirms my fears. I'm just going to pack my patience and go with the flow - I don't need to be in the front row of every storyteller. Just a bit nervous after my long absence from WDW. But I'll be going solo, so that makes things a bit easier. I wish you luck on that night too! Maybe we'll accidentally cross paths.

I failed to ask. Do you think 10 minutes would be enough time to budget for a food booth line?

I went to EPCOT last week, when the park was essentially dead, and the food lines were still 10 minute plus

Ouch. I'll just see what happens. I sincerely hope that was because it was near the end of F&W, but I think that's just my denial ;)

I might not get to as many as I had wanted to, but I'll pick two to hit for sure. Thank you!

We went last year the week after Thanksgiving/first week of December. We found Epcot to be more crowded than when we had went in the past.

My wife overheard several people say that the only reason they decided to come to Epcot was the Candlelight Processional.

I think a lot of people go to F&W with the express purpose of doing a lot of the food booths. For the Festival of the Holidays, the food booths are far fewer and are more incidental to the whole holiday thing, so the lines may not be so long. We found that it helped during F&W to be in the World Showcase as soon as it opened at 11 and then hit some of our favorites early. The lines tend to very short at that time, and I'm sure that would be true for the holiday time. And it also helps to have reviewed the menus so you know which booths to prioritize and which can be optional. As far as Epcot being crowded in general, as noted, the Candlelight Processional draws large crowds, so the American Adventure area of Epcot outside the theater can be extremely crowded from the late afternoon on, as people will gather outside the theater to listen if they haven't been able to get a seat. That makes walking around that part of the park very difficult at that time of day. We've been at WDW many times in early December and haven't found Epcot that crowded, in terms of being able to walk and move around, partly because it is just so big and spreads crowds out better. But, as noted, Saturday will be a popular day for locals to take in the holiday festivities, so have a plan, pack your patience, and just enjoy being in the most magical place on earth!.

I really appreciate all the replies! It makes me feel better - because I think I have a pretty solid plan. And I've looked at the menus/photos of the food. Definitely got my couple of items picked out that I want to try. I've got a CP dining package, so hopefully that will also cut down on my stress since I know a lot of people are prioritizing the CP. And happily, my reservation is PPO so I can still rope drop!

And so agreed about your last part - I just need to remember that I'm in my favorite place on Earth! If I have to miss a food booth or storyteller unexpectedly, who cares. I didn't even think I was going to see the holiday stuff this year. So this trip is all gravy!

I definitely worried too much. I walked right through to the food booths on both of the days I was there from early lunch through late afternoon.

It got very crowded and congested, but I still had a blast. Picked up fourth FP for both Soarin and TR.
