Hello I haven't been to Universal Studios Orlando in years. I was planning on doing one day in universal on my departure from Disney (it depends how late I can get a flight out). It would be Saturday, December 16. My original thought was just to do Universal Studios and get the express pass since I only have one day. Now I'm rethinking and wondering if I should forgo the express pass and get a park to park ticket instead. I definitely want to see Diagon alley but it would also be cool to ride the train and see hogsmeade. I also know I should avoid some rides because I get motion sickness. If you could only budget one and were a solo traveler going then would you choose to do universal studios and get the express pass or get a park to park ticket? I figured if the lines were bad I could hop in the single rider line? I knew that Gringotts was excluded from the express pass anyway but didn't know how bad the lines would be in general.

Park to Park and single rider lines.

Agreed!

However, to be on the safe side, I would not necessarily wait until the lines are long to get into the single rider line. As a frequent single rider since I often go solo, it is best that if it's a single rider, to just take it then even if it's a low wait time. As it takes less time to walk onto the ride and gets you there faster to enjoy the ride, so therefore in the future you have more time for the rides you will have to wait on.

I say this, because sometimes single rider lines can be closed due to other riders using it to cut down wait time. A ride that this often happens to is Gringotts. I've been there when times have been only 30 minutes and the line would be long enough for them to feel it's best to close it. Also, if that isn't the case, sometimes the line will not be closed yet, but has too many people in it that in the long run it might be best for you to wait in the regular queue if there's so many people. As the single rider line is considered "faster", but only due to the fact of when there is only a few people. As traditionally that is what they are expecting. They only use the line when they need to fill empty space and therefore doesn't move as quickly. So, if it's a few people, almost no wait! Not a few people, but let's say, 20 people, or even more? It's not going to be so "fast".

So, take advantage when you can, even if it's a low wait time, because the time you save with doing it right away can be used for something else.

Great idea, thanks!!

Great idea, thanks!!

You're welcome! That being said, using this method as well as getting there first thing, I often can cover quite a lot at Universal, as well as IoA. It's definitely possible to conquer both parks without EP, so you'll make it, especially since the time you're going isn't considered peak period in Dec yet!
