i have heard about the lady bug release at GF on Thursdays at 11am.

can you point me to any other activities outside the park that have an environmental awareness about them?

They sell all sorts of items made out of recycled materials. My son bought a bunch of the pens and pencils for his friends (he is the co-president of his Green Club in HS) made out of recycled rubber, recycled paper, recycled plastic, recycled denim.

oh, that is awesome!

glad to hear there are some eco-suveniers.

last time we were there in 2005 i don't recalle seeing anything "green" except those huge reusable bags (which we got 2 of) and they hold tons of groceries!

now, i am hoping for some organic cotton disney clothing...anyone ever seen that?

Disney recycles everything. Not just the stuff that gets put into the recycling bins in resort rooms and in the parks. Their trash is gone through to sort out what can and cannot be recycled. Disney is very active with preserving the environment.

Also, Disney World is a nature preserve. Animals (like an alligator) will be relocated to another part of the property if they are considered a potential danger to humans. Otherwise, they are free to roam around. We've seen armadillos and wild turkeys on World Drive. And of course, there are many, many ducks, ibises, and bunny rabbits all over the parks. At Animal Kingdom, it's interesting to see the Cast Members feeding only the park animals and not the "wild" animals.

Yes! They do have organic Disney shirts in several designs, here is one of them:

At Tren-D (I think) they sell all sorts of recycled souvenirs like handbags made out of mis-printed candy bar labels woven together.

that is super cool! my daughter is sooo into recycled stuff! where is this Tren D place?

DownTown Disney Marketplace. I think you can find recycled stuff all over (I'm pretty sure the recycled rubber pens mentioned above are in just about every big shop, for example), I only remember the handbags specifically because I thought it would be a perfect gift for my sister. Rather than throwing away candy bar wrappers that are mis-printed or for candy they no longer make, they weave them into bags. I found an article on the project here: http://ecoistlife.blogspot.com/2009/05/ecoist-partners-with-disney.html

The Tren-D photo gallery is here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/photos/trend/pages/Tren-D-01.htm and there's a close-up of the bags here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/photos/trend/pages/Tren-D-80.htm

Those of you who are into recycling or whose kids are should know that there are no recycling bins that you'll see at Disney, but the trash is actuall sorted at a main facility and sent for recycling from there. So don't feel bad about throwing your recyclables in the trash.

Actually there are some recycling bins through the parks. I know I have used some at DHS. But I agree that they are not as numerous as you would think for a company that goes to such lengths to recycle their trash.

The pens, pencils, notepad, etc are not located with the other office type supplies. At Mousegears they were located by the jewelry and watch section. They have their own separate display.

Disney has been releasing "friendly insects" for at least the last 20 years. I remember watching the lady bug release at the Poly back in the late 80's. I'm a gardener, if your wondering why I know this. LOL

Yes, they do. The Behind the Seeds tour is very nice and a nice break from all the racing around at WDW. Very leisurely. Informative. Lots of fun.
