“He scanned it and says, ‘We don’t have any record of your baggage,’” Mrs. Short said. She persisted with the receipts to no avail. “When the guy told me ‘I don’t know how long you’re going to stand there and stare at me…I can’t help you,’ I just can’t fathom treating someone like that. So then he just leaves. He leaves us standing there and locks up the little office.”
And so bag-less and frustrated, the Shorts went on their way to find the ground transportation Delta had arranged for them back in Orlando. End of story? Not exactly. Not even close. When they approached Delta’s ticket counter in Dallas, they were told that there was no authorization of ground transportation in their record. Apparently, not only were the Shorts bag-less, they were voucher-less as well for a costly thirty-minute cab ride from Dallas-Fort Worth to Love Field. Aimee’s mother appealed to the same ticket agent twice, and then dialed customer service several times. Even after customer service finally authorized the ground transportation, the ticket agents refused to provide the vouchers until a supervisor was called to the scene.
“(Aimee) was crying at this point. We’re stranded at this airport,” Mrs. Short told Local 6. “They were bordering on sadistic almost, like, ooh, let’s see how this plays out…”
